  • Morning Fortune, I'm being nosy now. Looking at the car pics you've painted they seem difficult to me, how do the animal paintings differ - what makes them more time consuming? Capturing the emotions/personality?

Glad you have Mr F home. Mr T has been away three days this week and I'm SO looking forward to seeing him tonight :)

    Very best wishes, Tilly x

A badger! Wonderful, even if he is eating your rhubarb. And I'm glad you have a husband again, and a nearly completed cat painting :)

Hi Tilly - how are you feeling today? Hope you're on the mend.

Painting a flat (ish) shiny surface requires a different technique to fur. There are a lot more brush strokes involved to get the right texture. And yes, getting a good likeness and capturing the nature of the animal is more difficult. I'd be quicker if I painted in a looser style but I am better at realism and more comfortable with that. Can't wait to show you all the results but it will be a few weeks yet.

It's true what they say about 'absence' isn't it. Although, after a week with Mr F at home I may start hoping for another business trip :rotfl:

I'm very excited about the badger. We could see, from the recording, that he was hiding by the house when Mr F went out to the gym. I'm not sure if he's coming for the rhubarb or the snails it attracts. Anyhow, I don't mind sharing with him. If it looks like he's coming at a regular time we'll set up badger watch in the dining room :D

  • Hi Fortune, Dr is putting me back on steroids - I'll be able to lift Mr T at this rate :rotfl:

I do feel massively better but the energy and breathing difficulties are frustrating. However, I'm doing everything by the book to recover fully :)

Interesting about the strokes and the fur etc, goes to show how little I know about painting :D

You create such beautiful pictures for people.

    Have a good day. Tilly x x x

This is your body telling you, you've worked too hard for too long. Glad to hear you're listening to it.

With painting, it really does depend on the artist. I've learnt such a lot since I started - you can mix media, you don't have to follow rules, you can change your style, etc.

You were one of my earliest supporters :D

    Thank you

I'll look forward to seeing the cat pictures when you are able to let us have a look

How exciting about the badger - we always get excited when there is a new visitor to the garden, although we've never had a badger. Our main visitors are of the feathered variety.

Thank you Goldie. I'll be posting work in progress pictures on my FB page as soon as the customer gives me the ok.

We have a fox too and, in the past, we have had a whole family of weasels.

  • I finished the cat portrait yesterday :j There are a few final adjustments I want to make and then she's ready for scanning. I'm going to talk to the customer later to make sure he's 100% happy and agree costs. We didn't do this up front this time as I'd never painted a cat before and didn't know how long it would take. I've worked out it should be £150 if I charge at minimum wage. However, he's a friend and I'd usually discount for that so I'm thinking £120.

We had a naughty mid-week takeaway last night  A rare treat as we don't have takeaways generally. £25 from the entertainment budget.

    Friday folks!
