Thanks you lot - how lovely to come on here and see so many birthday wishes. I'd love to give you lots of smilies but they don't seem to be working at the moment.
I did indeed have a lovely day:- joined some friends for breakfast at the local caf!. Across-the-Lane-Neighbour paid
- went into town with Across-the-Lane-Neighbour for a mooch. She wouldn't let me pay for parking and bought me coffee and a bun too
- bought myself a box of birthday chocolates - £4, half price in M&S
- came home to a huge box from my DSis containing flowers, chocolates, a balloon and a card
- went out to a local restaurant with Mr F in the evening. £53.03 with my birthday voucher for a free main
In other news:- activated the JL Partnership Cards so we can start accruing voucher points
- Mr F got paid from his old employer and it's a bit more than I was expecting. It might be that they've included some Profit Related Pay but I'll have to wait until his pay slip arrives before I can find out
- dropped in my admin claim - it will be the first one that I have for myself
Downhill slope to the weekend!

Ooh Partnership! Excellent! My sister's a partner, its a brilliant deal.
And I'm chuffed for you that your birthday was that good - love the signoff too, downhill to the weekend :j:j:j2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Mr F got paid (again) today - and more than I was expecting. I realised that I was using the wrong formula for working out his ending/starting salaries. At least the mistake was in our favour!
So the monthly money shuffle has been done and I've done an end of month(ish) round up of the budget:- £54.18 extra income from my admin work. This is the last time it will be going into the household budget though
- £60.00 saved on the fuel budget as I didn't need to fill up this month
- £81.50 saved on the grocery budget mainly due to Mr F being away with the new job
- added £422.94 to the savings
- £157.23 overspent on the fun budget (so wish my smilies were working because that definitely deserves a hair raise). I know exactly where it's all gone - an extra meal out to celebrate Mr F's new job, a deposit on a Ball we're going to in June, a couple of extra impromptu meals and social events. Well worth the money though and I wouldn't change a thing!
- I've also spent quite a lot on the house this month too. Although the house, along with boosting our savings, is one of the goals at the moment.
Glad the work transition is out of the way and we have a clearer picture of the new financial situation. Just need to sort out the tax man now!
Have a great weekend all

I've been waiting for pay day to make a few purchases:
- 3 organic soaps from Miss Ballantyn£. I use these in a jute bag instead of shower gel which sometimes gives me eczema. I only ordered them yesterday but they arrived this morning and there was an extra free one - Frankincense & Myrhh left over from Christmas. How lovely!
- a new pair of Croc flips from the sale. I wear these around the house in the summer and have just managed to break mine!
- a crate of wine from Laithwait£$. We are getting a bit low on red so I took advantage of their current offer - £10 off voucher, free magnum of one of our favourite reds and 3 bottles of Prosecco at half price.
Mr F went out to do a bit of green laning today so I started the new Daffodil painting. I want it to be really bright and colourful so have used lots of oranges and red for the shadows.- Red Lentil, Chickpea & Chilli Soup for lunch
- Waitr0$£ delivered - free leeks today
- Smoked Haddock & Leek Risotto for supper
We've decided to have a night in tonight so the log burner is roaring and the red is pouring.
Hope you're having a good weekend

Hi Fortune,
I've been reading your thread for a while now, so thought I would pop in properly and say hi.
I've got a recipe for a red lentil, bacon and tomato soup which is divine. (Not sure where the line from soup to stew goes though......)
Thanks for being inspiring.

Hi Wish - thanks for dropping in, I love visitors. It's a very fine line between soup and stew and I've been know to make a stew then blitz the leftovers to make a soup... or... add a few extra ingredients to a soup to make a stew! You'll have seen from my diary that I'm quite good at blurring boundaries.
At the moment my goals are to boost our savings and get the house finished. My problem is that I like shopping, going out to eat, wine, etc so I have a constant battle balancing loaves with lilies. The diary helps to keep me on track though. Inspiring? Think bad example is more appropriate
Popping off to see whether you have a diary I can gate crash.
Stick around

(Look smilies! Apparently the hyper links and smilies do not work if you have Internet Explorer 11  I haven't worked out how to get around the link problem yet but have figured out you can drag and drop smilies)https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6623005/happy-days-in-our-golden-years/p1?new=1
