  • Hi FS,

Great news on the credit card. Hope you get the bed you want too...

  • I tempt the hens back into their run with half a cup of corn. They recognise the green plastic cup I use and usually come running. They know the drill and make their noisy way towards the run door, not taking their eyes of the cup for a second. Today, one Fortunate Hen was missing. She has a distinctive cluck - very high pitched and squeaky. I could hear her but I couldn't see her and she didn't come running when I called. I then noticed that the lid to the black plastic dustbin I use to keep their bedding in was upside down. I've been leaving the lid slightly ajar to keep the bedding aired. It seems that the hen had jumped up on to the lid (perhaps for a better view of the green cup) and it had flipped over trapping her inside. I'm sure she looked a little embarrassed when I peered down into the bin to find her stood in the bottom :rotfl:

    MS activity today:
    • Honey Plum Crumble for breakfast this morning :rotfl:Mr F said it was the weirdest breakfast he'd every eaten but I can't see how it differs from compote with cereal. I forgot to mention I'd cooked it last night for pudding - made from donated plums
    • ordered the log store from Fleabay - £225. It's a big one - 2.6 metres long and will fit perfectly on the concrete base surrounding our septic tank. This is fenced off and just dead space at the moment. My neighbour called to get the number for our usual log supplier so is obviously getting started on the research
    • 17p of Mr F's for Mr Marmite. Mr F is very protective of his change - I sneaked today's contribution from the change dish on his bedside table whilst he was in the shower. Mr Marmite only eats coins under 50p and Mr F never notices :rotfl:
    • Leftovers lunch - mozarella, tomato, basil and pesto sandwich left over from Mr F's packed lunch today
    • Two Banana and Maple Fairy Cakes for dinner from the freezer (come on - you've all done it :rotfl:) Mr F is away for the next two nights so it may be cake for dinner tomorrow as well :rotfl:
    • Did the Waitr0$£ shop. Saved a bit against budget as Mr F is away a couple of nights next week as well.
    • Voucher from Lak£land in the Radi0 Time£$ this week - £5 off a £30 or over spend. I'm going to keep this as my clothes airers are falling to pieces
    • a couple of little PADs to the savings account
I love getting bits and pieces for the house - particularly if they've been on the wish list for some time. Feels as though we are making progress.

    Happy Wednesday

Thank you happilass - that's so kind of you. I do put a lot down as I'm a touch typist (superfast - 80 words a minute). Does mean I get a bit carried away though - impressed you can get to the end of a post without losing the will to live :rotfl:Going off now to see if you have a diary so I can return the favour.

  • One of my Fortunate Hens has been broody for the last week or so but there are signs that I might have broken the cycle today :T She's the only one to go broody so far this year and this is her second time! It's not too big a problem - it's just that, if you're not careful, they stop eating and drinking and can lose condition. Also they stop laying and the other hens' laying gets disrupted as well. Anyhoo, I've been locking her out of the run for the last few days and she didn't rush back into the coop as soon as she could today. Good news as, in the past, I've had to resort to putting ice packs under her at night :rotfl:

Quite a quiet day today so just a few MS items to report:
    • no cake for dinner tonight you'll be pleased to hear - I had them for lunch instead :rotfl:
    • MRN - no willpower here re vouchers either. I used the £5 Lak£land voucher against a new clothes airer and some mini cake cases to bake treats for Mr F's packed lunch :o
    • Cauliflower and Broccoli Cheese from the meal plan for dinner tonight and there's some left over for lunch tomorrow
    • reconciled the bank accounts
    • another small PAD to the savings. These seem such piddly amounts but are adding up to about £2 per week so, at that rate, I'll have an extra £104 a year :T
    • Mr F had bought home his payslip this week so I checked that today and, quelle surprise, the tax office are still over-charging him. That'll be another 20 minute wait to get through to them on the 'phone this weekend.
    • a couple of hours admin work
Ooh - more than I thought.

    Friday tomorrow :j

It's okay as long as you needed them! And packed lunch contents count as a need too!

Mr F would certainly agree on the packed lunch contents :rotfl:

  • One of my MS efforts today was to use up another 2 sulky bananas. Having made quite a few banana based bakes this month I thought I'd try something new - Banana & Caramel Cake. You have to make the caramel first. This is something I've never done before and I was quite pleased with the way it turned out. And the caked baked a treat too. However, I was a bit too keen to turn it out of the tin so, tonight, we had Banana & Caramel Sponge Pudding with cream :o Just cake in disguise after all and it tasted yummy :rotfl:

    Other news:
    • the airer turned up from Lak£land - blimey that was quick. Apparently I get a free sample microfibre cloth with it but that and the cake cases are being sent separately
    • our next door neighbours have asked if they can replace the fence dividing our gardens. We think this is our boundary but they are happy to pay to do it if we agree. They want a bit more privacy and a close-boarded fence to keep their dog in. Result!
    • Step class this morning. Our usual instructor was unwell so someone else stood in for her. That meant different routines and it was much harder! Almost kept up though.
    • went over to the neighbours with the rosehips. Got about 1kg so am going to attempt Rosehip Syrup this weekend
    • Waitr0$£ delivered. No free food this time either. Wonder if it's something to do with the timing. I might go back to a mid-week order this week and see what happens
    • Courgette Carbonara from the meal plan tonight - courgettes from the garden as my plants are still going strong.
Mr F is home - yay! :j:j:j Tired and grumpy but nothing a bowl of Banana & Caramel Sponge Pudding won't sort out :rotfl:

    Have a great weekend everybody.

  • Hi Fortune Smiles,
yes I love my garden and my home. I am retired, early I might add :p. I spend my days now doing what I like, it's great after years of working in the nhs and education. I don't have a thread but I love to read others people's threads and yours is my favorite.
You seem very organised and creative about your quest.
Thanks for taking the time to reply.

    Hi Fortune,
