  • Had a lovely day out at B£lm0nt H0u$£ today with some friends. A guided tour of the house, (almost) dry stroll around the gardens and a cream tea to end the day. All for £14.50.

    On the 'bread' side:
    • received some home grown garlic bulbs in exchange for my gift of plums and eggs
    • reconciled the bank accounts
    • a tiny PAD to the CC
On reconciling the bank accounts I noticed that I haven't received any pay for my admin job this month. I made sure I got the claim to them in good time. £161 down  They are notorious for dragging their feet over processing claims. I'll 'phone up payroll tomorrow to find out what's going on then start stamping my feet. It's not on - if they haven't processed the claim I'll have to wait until 25th Sept for the money.

Off to bed soon. Don't know why but I'm very tired today - probably the fresh air and all the energy I've expended on ranting :rotfl:

    Bye for now

    Hi Fortune Smiles,

Sorry to hear of your pay problems, however as a former payroll manager I know they are quite capable of paying you the money now and processing the claim at the end of September, and deducting the money they've already paid you.

However this will make more work for them which they're probably not keen on!!

    Hope you get it sorted.

Thanks Megela - that's very handy to know. Fortunately we're not short this month as Mr F is getting paid but, if he wasn't, we'd be relying on that money.

  • Mr F's first pay from his new job arrived today :j and it's a little more than I had calculated - a good thing as I haven't been paid anything.

    So
    • reconciled the bank accounts
    • shuffled some money arround to pay the usual bills
    • a PAD to the CC
    • went to Zumba tonight. I can get to the evening classes when Mr F is away but also I've planned a shopping trip with my sister tomorrow so will miss Step.
Once all of the first of the month payments and deposits have been made I should be able to pay off the final amount on the credit card plus put £900 in the savings account :T I'm amazed that since I started this thread, only 6 weeks ago, we have paid off over £2k on the credit card and increased our savings by about £1k. The tax rebate helped of course but I'm still really proud of what we've done in such a short space of time. Just goes to show what you can achieve with the right mind set and a little help from your MS friends.

Thank you everyone for all the support and great advice

  • It feels like Mr F and I have had a mini holiday this weekend. We thought we'd make the most of the time as Mr F is away again this week and possibly next weekend as well.

I went to Bluewater on Friday with my sister. Not too much damage was done; a couple of t-shirts, some trousers for the gym and a bottle of shampoo (all on my list). I did buy some treats for Mr F though; some flavoured olive oils and specialty breads. I drove but my sister bought us a lovely lunch in Carluccios and a glass of Prosecco. That was in return for a pub supper I bought her a couple of weeks ago. I had wanted to get a couple of tops for the gym too but couldn't find any I liked. So there's likely to be some internet shopping going on later :rotfl:

Saturday we went to a local beer festival - one glass of Pimms for me, 10 pints of ale for Mr F  There were 70 different types available so I suppose he felt he needed to try a satistically relevant sample :rotfl:

To make up for his drunken antics, he took me out for Sunday lunch today and a stroll around B0dium Castl£.

So a lovely weekend but an expensive one. Half of this month's entertainment budget spent but I figure if Mr F is away I may save something on the food shop this week.

A couple of my Fleabay items are ending today so fingers crossed they'll bring something in to balance the books.

    Have a good week all

Do you find that most ladies excercise clothing is black and pink? It's like they're so unimaginative they just do pink for women yet men have a whole range of colours!

Hi MRN. It's very disappointing - a tiny proportion of women's clothes compared to mens in store and, as you say, a bit limited on the colourways. I've order some tops on line now but.. they are black and pink :rotfl:

A friend visited yesterday and we went out to pick blackberries in the local lanes. Not great pickings but it's probably a bit early yet. Still we got about 500g which are now packed away in the freezer.

    Other MS (or not) activity:
    • made lunch for said friend from one of the donated marrows - roasted in chilli oil with summer vegetables, donated garlic and rosemary and a little goats cheese crumbled on top
    • ordered some sports tops on-line. I'm not a designer label type of girl so I've ordered the store's own brand at £6.99 each
    • a neighbour called with a date to take us out for an indian meal. This is in return for the work Mr F did on the E-Type
    • they also asked if I'd like the rosehips from their garden before the hedge gets trimmed. The answer was yes (of course) as I'd like to try making Rosehip Syrup
    • one of my Fleabay items sold so I'll be popping to the village Post Office later
    • breakfast with my admin job colleagues at a local hotel this morning (entertainment budget is now sorely depleted)
    • I've started PADing to the savings account now rather than the CC. We're waiting for a cheque for some training Mr F did for a friend recently which will clear the CC balance. I'm hoping it comes through soon as, otherwise, I'll have to clear the balance from the savings. I'm determined not to pay any more interest but, once the money's in the savings account, I hate taking it back out.
Well, we are officially in autumn now so I'm hoping that means lots of windfalls for us all - of the MS variety of course :rotfl:

  • You are so lucky with edible (with a little effort) donations from friends and neighbours. All our neighbours have paving slab gardens... they're a little shocked about our vegetable patch! Perhaps we need to get into foraging!!!
