  • ...to have a house alarm installed before Christmas! I'd forgotten how much I hate having work done in the house. The upheaval, the mess, the installation guy constantly and loudly talking to himself :rotfl:A 1 day possibly 1 and a half day installation is now going into day 3 and I don't know if anyone will be turning up tomorrow to complete the job  At least there's only a little bit left to do. Thank goodness because I am all hovered out now :rotfl:

It's kept me out of trouble anyway so there's not much to report on the MS front:
    • my replacement makeup turned up from H0u$£ of Fra$£r - very impressed with the delivery time
    • Cauliflower & Potato Curry with Peshwari Naan from the meal plan for supper last night http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/420629/cauliflower-and-potato-curry. The remainder is on the hob as I type for having with some Basmati Rice and Greek Yoghurt (the installers didn't leave until late)
I have resorted to a mid-week Baileys (breaking our no drinking in the week rule). I can't face another day of alarm installation without it :rotfl:

Hope you're having a less stressful run up to Christmas.

Any chance you can recommend a good moisturiser that is not too expensive?

Hi Beanie. Boots No 7 Protect & Perfect is supposed to be as good, if not better, than all the top branded moisturisers. I get dry patches occasionally and usually resort to good old Vaseline :o Only overnight though - not sure shiny chins are trending this year :rotfl:

Sorry to butt in. Extra virgin olive oil is fantastic! Wash / rinse your chin with kitchen cold tap water (kitchen so that the water hasn't gone through the pipe system), dry with kitcheb roll and apply. I'm using this for my whole face at the mo as my skin always dries out and gets super itchy in the winter. Hope you get some relief soon.

  • Hi, I am a newbie here so sorry for crashing the conversation.

Totally agree about Boots P&P range: it's great stuff and it's often on offer.

    Nice to meet you!

I've bought a massive pot of Nivea Creme and have been using it every night before I go to bed. It's too heavy/greasy for day time use but it's doing a good job on a night time.

    I'm trying to be frugal!

When I get bored of being frugal I will buy some more L'occitane Shea Ultra rich moisturising cream and Shea fabulous serum - they're fab products!

Hi Apple Muncher. Butt away! I'm a big fan of natural products too. I switched to natural, organic soaps this year. I use them in a jute bag instead of shower gel and my skin has really benefited.

Oooh L'Occitane - shame I've already sent Santa my Christmas list. Can't believe I asked for a hedgehog house now!

  • The installers left at 5.30pm last night :j I dashed round with a duster and the hoover and the house is almost back to normal :) Lovely to have the peace and quiet back today. The alarm seems to be working well. We put it on to the night setting last night and all went smoothly. I didn't sleep a wink though thinking it might go off and disturb the neighbours in the early hours. I put it on again this morning whilst I was out and no mishaps so I'm feeling a little bit more relaxed now. I also read up on the motion sensors and am more confident that the Fortunate Cat won't set them off.

I have found the whole thing really stressful. I'm not good with having work done in the house anyway but it's been even more difficult in the week before Christmas. And the house has never seen so much hovering! So, I decided to give myself the day off today:
    • joined the local mums for the traditional end of term caf! breakfast. Only £3 as one of the mums owed me £2 :)
    • we went into the market town after as we all had chores to do
    • picked up Mr F's dry cleaning
    • dropped off some unwanted clothes to the charity shop - although my bag was raided by the mums before we went in!
    • bought the final stocking filler presents for the DSs
    • replaced a few grocery items which hadn't lasted as long as I thought they would
    • came home, put a Christmas film on, lit the log burner and had a little catnap on the sofa :D Bliss!
    • my new Christmas tree decoration arrived in the post today - it's really sweet and you can tell a lot of work has gone into it
    • not much cooking to do this evening as I made Sausages braised in Cider with Apples and Juniper last night http://www.deliaonline.com/recipes/cuisine/european/english/pork-sausages-braised-in-cider-with-apples-and-juniper.html. I made enough for supper tonight and a portion for the freezer too
Across-the-lane-neighbour is hosting girly drinks this evening so I shall be rustling up some nibbles and hot footing it over there with a bottle of wine later.

Hope you're having a peaceful day too
