Paypal Integrated Royal Mail Postage and Labelling

Ok, so If its already been posted I don't see it. Maybe this has been there a long time and I just ignored it before.

Paypal is now offering to print pre-paid postage labels!

This may not save money, but it saves time!

I just clicked "print label" chose "First class" and it printed the pre-paid address label nicely customised including my return address, and also printed a Certificate of Posting to be stamped. Then it charged my paypal account the cost of the postage

No fees, no surcharges. Nice.

Also there is a tick box "not to display the cost on the label" for all extreme overchargers. Not sure thats so neat.

Only problem will be trying to get away with dropping off the parcel and getting the proof of postage stamped without queueing..

It looks very good in principle, but what if your scales conflict with RM?
A lot of my items are close to the limit, even using a different jiffy bag can alter the outcome!
it also means using more paper and ink, I am trying to use less!

I already know mine usually tally with the post office. But on my trial parcel I just sent I added 15g for good measure. Afterall I don't want the customer to be surcharged the other end!

Anyway, my post office let the whole thing down a little by making me queue to get the certificate of posting stamped.

Still, it still does save a minute or two, and it means I don't keep eating my change to pay for postage, much better to come straight from my paypal account.

Oh, and I think it looks professional too, no more hand written labels for me.

Anyhow, to improve the facility I have tasked myself to write to:

    1. Paypal and ask them to print the label and the certificate of posting on the same A4 sheet of paper. Printing on two is a waste.

2, Write to the local postmaster (its a BIG postofffice) to ask him to have an express counter for pre-paid drops-offs, where people just need a stamp.

i logged into paypal earlier and noticed the option "print postage label" next to some payments i had received.

i presumed it was to print of a packing slip/invoice and just ignored it

i have just had a closer look and it appears to be like the royal mail free service but a lot quicker and easier

just going to watch the demo now

Ooo, yes, and an express counter for people who just want to buy a stamp and have the correct change.

And an express counter for people who just want to post things they don't know the charge for but don't want anything stamped.

I can't see any postmaster being willing to assign a member of staff to sit at a window and wait for people who want to post pre-labeled parcels when that MOS could be servicing a queue.

I doubt if other customesr would be too hapy about it, either.

I won't be the only customer feeling this way when MANY people start sending parcels this way. Other customers don't get irate with people using Express (Basket only, 10 items or less) lanes in supermarkets, and self-service tills, do they?

Just like at airport express check-ins, the express operative does not need to be idle when there are no express customers, they just call the next person from the regular queue. Works For BA, it can work in the post office.
  • most post offices rely on people paying them for there services. so i dont think some will be that happy .

i already use royal mails free online postage/smart stamp so using the paypal option will not make any difference to my post office

unfortunately i do not have the time to stand in my local post office for half an hour every day/every other day

They already closed my local post office, so I have a long walk to go to the main one. I feel no moral duty to support it like I did with my local post office.

TBH, I prefer to use my closest small p.o., it's hanging on by the skin of it's teeth and I would hate for it to close, I actually think that ebay is keeping it going!. The main p.o. in town is right across the road from where I work but I would rather chew off my arm than use it.
I had the misfortune of going there yesterday and had an argument with a very smug woman
me: "1st class in UK please,"
her :" its too big it will have to go 2nd class":,
me : "why,, have they changed things?"
her : "no, but they are clamping down".
    me :" oh, ok then".
    her : "£3.85"
    me : "dont think so , it's only £1.70 1st class".
her : " its parcel post",
    me : " no , it's a packet",
    her : "it's too big",
me : "no, it's long and thin so can be up to 90cm long". (as long as the whole dimension is less than 104cm).
her : " no, that's wrong, it will be refused",
me : " well I send 3 or 4 of these a week from my local p.o. for £1.70, so I will take my business there!"
    smarmy cow.
