You know how on these hospital bag lists it's says "maternity pads" do they have to be maternity specific?

The midwives say yes. Sanitary towels have liquid absorbing beads that mask smell inside (yuk) and this can hide an infection. Maternity towels are just cotton wool I think. Also they are bigger and you might bleed quite heavily at the start. More padding for sitting down too.
  • Bamama - maybe you could get away with non maternity pads but actual maternity pads are thicker which are more comfortable and I'm guessing they may be more absorbent. I bought mine from Boots when they were on offer as I'd read from other mummies that they are supposed to be good.

Yikes I can't think about my boobs gettin any bigger, I'm already a G cup!

Had a bit of a shock today. Been suffering with really sore, hips, pelvis and legs over the past couple of weeks. Spoke to midwife who has referred me to physio and saw GP for pain relief to be signed off from work and now not returning till after maternity leave, yikes! Not been able to hand over, clear my desk or anything. Need to speak to my boss in the morning to tell her as she doesn't know yet and arrange for DH to take me down to collect all my stuff.

    Hi everyone,

Thanks for the cotton wool clarification. I will pack the pads as I have them already and I will buy the balls if I'll need them once we are back from the hospital.

I had my 34 weeks appointment (I'm nearly 34 weeks) and my little one was in breech position. The baby still have lots of time to turn but we have to keep an eye on it.

I need to finish my hospital bag as well as.

Period pain: I had some today for the first time since being pregnant!!!

Happy due date Maddie and catbag!!!

Lots of labor vibes to all boldies and ladies who need them!

Hi Aida, me too with the period pain. And weirdly the belly felt weird all day even now. bubbas quieter. will have some milk, hopefully that should wake him/her up! ;) cant wait now. am getting restless.:)

i need to find a thinner robe to pack in my bag as the one i have is too thick and it will drive me mad if the hospital is hot. :(

i am sure your baby will turn. try sitting on the gym ball. speaking of which i need to find out where mine is!!! lol

I've got some of the thick night time pads here... picked them up as they were on offer. Maternity pads seem expensive in comparison.

It's been such a long time since I've had a proper period. I've been on Cerezette since I was 19 really. Not sure I remember how bad cramps can be. I know I went on the pill after one bad spell where I bent down to get a glass out of the cupboard and couldn't get back up! My problem these days is bending over for anything!!! Got backache atm and a bit of a tight belly. Shall get OH to give my back a bit of a rub ^^

It is useful to have some ordinary sanitary towels for after your lochia settles down a bit anyway as they are less bulky if you're wearing trousers in the first few weeks. My lochia lasted 5 weeks in all but I was wearing sanitary towels from around 3 weeks and pantyliners for the last 1. I believe the first period afterwards can be fairly heavy too, but not got there yet at nearly 7 weeks as I'm pumping and breastfeeding which can delay the return. I've heard good things about the kotex towels but I couldn't find any when I looked, so just used some Always towels that my Mum found in one of our drawers at home from when my sister had her cone biopsy.
Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.
