Good luck for your stretch and sweep ikkle. Hope it all goes well and you get your baby very soon!
I'm due this Thursday and feel huge, tired and fat. Five out of the eight expected babies from my NCT ante-natal class have now been born (3 girls, 2 boys). Some of the others were due after me. How rude to queue-jump!!!0 -
Good luck for the stretch and sweep ikkle.
Hope baby arrives soon moneypuddle, sorry I queue jumped you too!
moneypenny your hospital probably provides the ready made formula anyway. All three of the hospitals I've given birth in provided it in little pre made bottles with sterile throw away teats.Cross Stitch Cafe member no.800 -
Thanks guys. My next appointment is on Thursday (due day!!) and I'm really in two minds over a stretch and sweep. I always thought I definitely wouldn't want any intervention whatsoever with my birth, wherever possible, which includes stretch and sweeps. I just don't like the idea of anyone 'dabbling' when I slightly disagree with my due date anyway (I think its the 11th rather than the 4th). Now I'm feeling fed up and wondering whether to go for it to speed things along. I was in no hurry for the birth because (a) my mum is having vision problems, (b) my OH has been working away and (c) the due date issue.
My other concern is the fact that they always have 3 midwives in my appointment (2 actual and 1 student) and I hate the thought of being prodded, stretched and sweeped so publicly. But now my mum's eye sight is coming back, OH has just arrived home, and I'm feeling very fat and fed up and would quite like my little boy to arrive now.
How painful is a stretch and sweep?0 -
i will let you know tomorrow lol. From what I've been told they are more uncomfortable than painful. You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.

good luck for your sweeps ikkle and moneypuddle. hope you get to see your bubbas soon..:)
i had a bit of a shop rage in primark earlier.. i got dressed and went at 6. it was lovely and quiet in the croydon one, however when i got to the till, i asked the woman to give me two bags as i bought a cheapy coat and a robe so wanted two bags. the cow rolled her eyes at me and i lost it.. i ended up complaining about her. i was livid. i then went downstairs and complained again. i was so poilte and friendly, she didnt even say hi, and just pointed to the card machine. no thank you nothing. i understand you are tired and have prob had a crap day. what wrong have i done? i was soo livid, i remember being so hot in there. grrr
anyway dh came and made us come dinner, and i couldnt eat the chicken so ended up having the curry bit wth rice and now i am hungry again. i have more food at work then here.. dont know how much bread i can eat again.. grrrBecame Mrs H on the 1st of October 2011!!

I also went on a shopping spree but on eBay lol. I bought 1 pair of maternity jeans, 1 pair of maternity cropped linen trousers, 1 pair of stretchy smart maternity trousers, 1 maternity tunic/shirt, 1 maternity top and 2 maternity dresses. All for £28 including postage. Still winning on other items, but you never know, I have put a maximum bid of £2 so I won't expect much lol. I will go tomorrow to TkMaxx and see the capes, I have seen many on eBay I like, but I do not know if the style will suit me, so I will go and try them on. If they look ok now and I see myself in one after the birth, I will see if I can find one for under £25.Quit smoking *1st January 2010*

moneypuddle - I had two sweeps (which unfortunately didn't work) and didn't think about them as intervention. A sweep will only work if you're almost ready to go into labour anyway - it won't speed things up if you're not "ripe". For more information check out this website.
My sweeps weren't particularly painful but a bit uncomfortable and I felt a bit sore afterwards - just remember to breathe through it and it will be over soon. Oh, and remember to empty your bladder - I don't know why but I felt like I needed to pee even though I didn't really need it. I believe you may say you don't want the student midwife to be there if you want more privacy.
Good luck and labour vibes whether you decide to have the sweep or not.0 -
