Re essential oils - I know that Manchester Uni did research into MRSA, and found that a combination of 3 essential oils blended together, kills it. But the big drug firm who funded the research made them sign a secrecy agreement before giving them funding... so now people are still dying from MRSA which is preventable. The whole thing was dropped because there is no money in it for the drug company. And that's evil.

I read this thread but don't comment as I'm not really a prepper as such although I've increased my tinned and dried food stores by about 6 times the usual holding stock since following. Noticed yesterday in pound world that they have the silver space blankets and a shelter in a similar material - these haven't been in over the winter and are with all the camping stuff.
  • Thanks for the tip off MOJOWORKING, I reckon you're very nearly a prepper, stick with us and you'll be fully fledged in no time flat!!!!! Cheers Lyn x.
  • mardatha - I use some my mum sends me from the states(I couldn't afford to buy it!) , its a mix called "on guard" (from do terra) and its supposed to kill everthing (including MRSA), mum swears by it and takes it every day, swears she hasn't had a cold in years! Its wild orange, clove, cinnamon, eucalyptus and rosemary. I have it mixed with cheap handwash and use it as a counter cleaner in an old spray bottle. My dad used it and frankincense(which according to research kills tumour cells) and he didn't get any colds or flu this winter even without the flu jab. Sadly he did pass away from pancreatic cancer a couple of months ago but his quality of life was good, and he had more months than predicted.
I guess you either believe or not, its old medicine and i'm a believer!
Especially when modern medicine says go away we can't do anything for you!!
Hospital last week, doctors quote of the week "we won't bother wasting money giving you a scan" and " we don't do that on the NHS anymore" (you stay in pain son, have a leaflet, go private, go away!)

I'm always up for a good fix especially as I've been wrongly diagnosed in the past. Plus if you are female 'of a certain age' there is a tendency for a busy doctor to put you down as a hypochondriac menopausal female ... But I think it is difficult to prove a negative - as in 'I've never had this because I take x'. Unless it is part of a large controlled study that is.
I used to get colds when I was younger but now I don't. It's not as if I am particularly scrupulous about germs, have locked myself away in purdah :D or take supplements.
Actually I just googled this and it seems as you get older you build up immunity to cold germs. You just come down with other things instead

Mardatha, I know a lot of important stuff is concealed by drug companies, but that does sound a bit unlikely. There might be lots of reasons why something that kills MRSA isn't actually useful (you can't drink it at a useful concentration, or inject it safely, for example). Essential oils are probably good at killing MRSA on the skin but so is ordinary alcohol gel (you could bathe in vodka I suppose, but bit of a waste of vodka!) I'd be interested to know more, though.

If you have a google theres a simple recipe to make clove oil. I must have a go as I have half a kilo of them that I bought for 50p not long ago.

Google it PP - it is a fact. I heard of it on a soapmaking forum of all things, and I googled and found it somewhere, it is true.
Apparently because nobody can "own" essential oils, so can't patent it.

:D I first heard the excuse It's your age from a GP when I was 31.

I believe there are 800-odd known colds and it stands to reason as you travel down life's road, getting anything from 3 a year (most adults) to 6 a year (people exposed to young children) that you gradually tick off the available viruses. The downside is that you can take longer to rally from a cold.

I have a weakened constitution (good OS word, there) and find eating my greens and having an early night with a HWB help a lot of things to resolve themselves. In extreme cases my definition of an early night might well be 4 pm, but that's the fun part of ME. If I'm going down with summat, I'll do my level best to hibernate for about 14 hours and usually feel much better as a result.

If that fails, gallons of tea and quite a few ounces of chocolate may have to be applied. But it's purely medicinal, I wouldn't want you to think that I enjoyed it.

    :EasterBun

Been allotmenteering and came home back-achy and cured that by lying flat on my back on a tiled floor for half an hour whilst burbling away on the jellybone. Multitasking is the name of the game. Lottie is getting there and I have dug up and killed 5 leatherjackets, today and yesterday.

Rusty nails outnumbered glass shards today, but there were a fair few early neolithic tools to be found. Little cutting/ scraping thingies. Plus something with a triangular cross-section, 2 inches long and with a very sharp point, which makes me wonder if it was made to be a bradawl? Will have to get back to the museum with a handful one day and ask "the flint guy".

:D Last time I was up there in the work-rooms they let me hold a huge Samian ware serving dish. It was gorgeous and the people who used to have it on their tables have been dead for about 2,000 years. I just adore history, there's so much of it to go around.

Wandered into a Liddly today to add to the passata mountain and noticed that the puree has now gone up to 34p. Sure it was 29p last time I looked. I have also added to the t.p. supply, as you always want to know you have enough of that in.

I have 78 rolls so may be OK for some time.:rotfl:

Well, the cake came out OK, but not very deep - only about 1.25". :(

I think I'll try 4 eggs next time.
Did you use self-raising flour? If not, a bit of baking powder in with the other ingredients will help. Can't remember how much offhand, off to check in the kitchen now!
