 It's The Curse of the Bank Holiday Weekend.

Mum's cooker is on the blink and her washing machine died yesterday. We're keeping fingers crossed for the fridge-freezer over there, and these things often come in threes.

    Stay safe.

Sharing your Mum's pain here. I washed a removable and washable sofa cover yesterday, that has been washed twice before with no problem. This time it has shrunk and is patchy. Blasted thing also ripped as I tried to put it back on sofa. Argh! Washed on 30 deg delicate wash. Only thing different is I used some persil my MIL gave me and it is a new washing machine, last time it was washed in my old washing machine using home made laundry gloop. Dont know what the hell to do as cant afford new sofa or replacement covers, plus sofa is still very comfy and nowhere near the end of its life. I can sew but a new fitted cover is way beyond my skills.

Pineapple is resisting the lure of the garden centres as she hates going to these places on bank holiday weekends :(. Fortunately plenty to do tidying up the patio and carting old compost around to re-shape the grden. We did plant some cut and come again lettuce but they are looking a bit sad - here oop north there is a biting bank holiday wind blowing up one's netherlies . Just put the CH on!

Thanks D&D but the person concerned as limited motivation for overt communication aids , this would be more of an emergency comunication aid , i.e if client upset ... show picture regular staff /member of family who is on way ..... or clinic first(show picture) then reasure still going to work (show picture). may not use com aids while out , as i think , he feels it labels him. cant go to much into details due to confidentiality
  • Hi all

Well grey baltic and windy here, just as well I don't get the monday holiday or I could feel very grumpy about other people having a sunny long weekend:D (only joking, hope you all have a grand time).
Eventually got round to visiting a very big B&M store that opened in town a few months ago, the prepper in me nearly had to be tied down as I was getting far too excited about the price of tinned goods.
Little seedlings in the polytunnel and greenhouse are looking respectable, so very chuffed.
I've just started buying essential oils, so far I have rosemary, lemongrass, bergamot, lavender, grapefruit and Patchouli (for the old hippy in me :D) can any of you clever peeps suggest any others that would be good to get?

    Cheers WLL xx

:T Nice cake, Bob. What is a "four quarters cake" as I've never heard this before?

Been playing in the dirt and feel covered in dust but have cleared several more square meters of soil. And found a lot more rusty nails. Bearing in mind that I have been cultivating this patch of ground for years, and remove non-organic detritus on sight each time, it's amazing the nails keep on a-coming.

Plus some more glass, binder twine, and misc carp. And a dearth of treasure chests, but a lovely convo with a passing friend. Sheesh, half wish I was still up there as some idjit has music pounding so loudly that my flat is vibrating.

I shall go on a small recec to see which idjit it is............ oh, that particular idjit. Love-lee.............

Working today so no progress either with prepping or housework here, then away with OH for a party overnight tomorrow. Nothing's going to get done until Tuesday... :( But I did pick up some interesting & useful books from a fellow-stallholder today. She's going full-time in another direction (handmade clothing from vintage children's bedding) so divesting herself of some very useful bits & bobs.

Taurusgb what kind of sofa? Just so happens I have a spare loose cover for a sofa lurking around; it's perfectly respectable, if a little purple, but just going to get cut up for fabric if it stays here!

Been re-stocking some stuff that's got a bit low, and really looked at prices this week - sainsb basics tuna is now 80 pence a tin fer gawds sake - when did that happen? I still bought a few tins though, bet the blinking stuff goes up again when I'm not looking! Far fewer special offers on real food than I've ever noticed, too. Also basics range has fewer items in, even in the bigger stores - anyone else seen that?

Seen a few things about dementia in the news this week - given that mum is likely to be going down this route before long, I think our SHTF scenario will involve major taking care of her, she'll only end up in a home over my dead body! We have experience of other rellies with dementia, so have some inkling of what's in store, but it may be hard nonetheless.

    A xo
