Having a preptastic visitor tomorrow so will catch up later in the day again

Do I get to count the loo rolls ? :D

A reminder for everyone to put an ICE (In Case of Emergency) number in your mobile phone or if you have one check it's current.

Nearly 2 weeks ago my aunt (58) had a stroke. Fortunately she was visiting a friend in hospital. Unfortunately it's 50 miles from where she lives and my Uncle was on a walking holiday in France.
So the staff called me as I'm first name in the address book, *would you want the first name in your address book called and told what had happened to you if no ICE number? worth checking who it is*

Aunts speech had been affected but the nurse thought she said door key under stone by front door so I could grab weekend bag and bring it to her and could I call my uncle and let him know.
She has a boot scraper set in massive boulder by the front door, and when I'd nearly pulled every muscle in my body trying to move it discovered no key. So turned and looked at 20' x 20' of pebbles in the front garden and started picking the up one by one.
I was, after a few mins, accosted by a neighbour who wanted to know what I was doing, and after 20 questions I was then told it was the stone in her front garden and she let me in, where a picture of me confirmed I at least knew them!

No prep bag, took ages to find everything and then a long drive to her. My uncle came home the following day.

I spent the next 10 days looking after both of them. My uncle is nice but useless around the home.
I discovered the following: they were using the last loo roll:eek: she shops daily for dinner often a bus ride to waitrose for a prepared meal each , so naff all really in the cupboards/fridge/freezer, they didn't know bread freezes and they've never prepared for anything going wrong except forgetting their door keys.

After explaining that I would stock up at MrS and batch cook and freeze dinner portions, they couldn't believe the amount of food I brought back and were shocked at a packet of 9 loo rolls :rotfl:, would have been more but nothing on special offer worth buying :D

So check your ICE number and who's first in the address book, and make things easier for someone in my position to gather up clothes that fit! (I didn't know the PJ's I took out of the drawer for her were too small) Make sure your ICE number can travel or arrange for someone to get you want you want/need.

Aunt is much better now having been treated very very quickly. It was a young checkout guy in the cafe who noticed her face looked odd and called over a nurse.

Annie - I'd happily have you as the first person in my phone - you have been an angel for your aunt and uncle - how lucky that the checkout guy spoke up and my thoughts are with you all and hoping for a fast recovery. I have no bob so I need to think about it as lots of my clothes would be "snug" if someone else picked!

In the interests of maintaining the health of our pets in hard times, bear in mind that some human OTC meds are routinely prescribed by vets - at a somewhat different price nat. It's worthwhile finding out what these are including appropriate doseage. But note if you go specifically to get something for your pet from a chemists and mention that it's for Fido, legally they are not allowed to sell it to you (even if it was your vet who advised you to get some). I wouldn't want to encourage anyone to break the law! :D

Very very lucky aunt in more than one way.

I was away for a few days recently. On the way back I stopped off very briefly in a small market town that is the metropolis for everyone for about 10-15 miles around. Decided to drop into the local camping/outdoor store.

I have been trying to locate four things for my BOB/SHTF bugin supplies to no avail. Spent a good couple of hours scouring the big outdoor/camping stores in the city to no avail. This little town shop had three in stock and sometime stocks the fourth! Took all of five minutes to lighten my wallet and head out with them. Should see me through the next five years at least.

On a different note, I have decided that the BOB will include two plastic screw top lids from standard commercial bottles. One from a 2 litre pop bottle and one that fits a 4 pint milk bottle. Saves having to carry the bottles but enables one to readily utilise the many abandoned bottles all over the place.

    Amazingly

Mini can/bottle-openers - have lost my old one
    Gas lantern filaments
    Simple wire saw

They had a gas lantern glass shade but not the right style (one of mine broke and I want to replace it).

Just been for a wander round my extensive garden, lol. There are flowers on the runner beans, buds on the peas, potatoes peeping through soil & blossom on my apple trees.

Never let success go to your head, never let failure go to your heart.
  • Just to put that in perspective --- The runner bens have only just decided to germinate and are 2 leaf babies still in thier pots on the bench in the greenhouse, the peas haven't germinated at all, the blossom on two of the apple trees is still in tight bud, the third one barely has leaves, but we have had to earth up the potatoes on the allottment this week, I guess 1 out of 4 isn't bad??? Cheers Lyn xxx.

DH is negotiating to get infinity broadband ( next door neighbour is getting it and he is desperate to beat him to it. ;) ) If it works as well as it is supposed to then dds will be delighted or as impressed as dds ever get!!!
Just reading through and wondered if you had checked to see if you are able to get infinity (I'm sure your DH has, but didn't want you to go too far down the road if you can't) - we can't yet as our telephone exchange is too old, I think! There's a 'checker' link on the BT site. :) Hope it works super fast for you if you can get it though :)
