Latest H7N9 infection figures from China 71 confirmed cases and still 14 deaths.0

I think we are a bit premature, getting our knickers in a twist, over this H7N9 business.
"Ordinary" flu kills thousands every year, while H7N9 has so far killed 14. :whistle:0 -
No twisted knickers in this household thank you very much!!!!! Seriously it's worth monitoring the situation as the H7N9 is mutating and possibly, if, and it is only a big IF, it does become human to human communicable as a disease, because it's an avian strain we homo sapiens have no resistance to it. They are currently working to develop a strain specific vaccine but that takes time and the virus has the potential to adapt more quickly that the vaccine makers can make the vaccine. I'm concerned but not scared and it's good to have some warning should there be a problem coming our way, Cheers Lyn.
Having said that, if there is a virus out there with my name on it, knowing will avail me very little indeed !!!0 -
They said that about H1NI1 bob. And we aren't getting knickers in a twist, we're just being aware. New viruses often appear in the far east or Africa, but travel fast.0

Hugs Helen, I hope it does not come to that...Thinking of you."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Thanks to Strapped, Nuatha and Boultdj for safety advice re using backpack. I'm also concerned with untwisted knickers as DS and DDIL are visiting China on holiday next month and DDIL talking about living on biscuits. Not just worried about consuming chicken but also about people handling the food that they will eat. I am quite happy to stay to look after the cat.

Just sat here wondering if anything will be triggered tomorrow by the funeral,my brother works in town and I always worry when something big is going on
Off to hospital again tomorrow *joy* then popping in to see Dad he made it downstairs to watch some footie so hoping he's getting a bit of strength back finally.
Glad DS2 turned down tomorrow for his heart op as it was too short notice (they only rang last thursday!) and he's in the middle of his final weeks/exams I'd rather be home with all this going on.
Nuatha my bulging bookcases also double up as a mini shelter if they're ever needed, well thats my excuse anyhow
Off to reheat my wheatie for my groaning bones XX0 -
Thanks for the good thoughts
I rent, but even benefits wouldn't cover it. I have a couple of wacky ideas but each would need major short term sacrifices. It's also down to long term illness so other jobs aren't really on the horizon right now.
I head the WBC (the "God hates fags" gang) were petitioning to get in to picket Thatcher's funeral. Their flyer made me giggle. On the other hand, could you imagine them running up against hoodies and hooligans?0
