Just a thought - I don't suppose that MT's death-debate is an excuse to call the MPs back in case something really does kick off in Korea? Seems some people, particularly in Japan & S. Korea, are taking the threat very seriously indeed, no matter how much TPTB are downplaying it here. I know we'd probably be better off if said MPs were all trapped in Thailand or wherever they all trot off to in the recess, but I expect they'll be calling a meeting of Python or some panic-stations committee or other. And if not, why not?

There is a free weekly 'shopper hopper' to my favourite local farm shop which runs throughout the day. I'm not sure who pays for it - but there is a Community Partnership involved. Unfortunately they don't run it from where I live - but a great idea as the shop is a bit out of the way.
As for my nearest farmers market - I'm not sure how many farmers there are! Last time I went it was mainly twee stalls selling expensive produce like fancy cheeses and meats and expensive handicrafts :(

    Bet most items are expensive...

:D I was wondering about that, too, seems a leetle bit OTT to devote so much time personal encomiums when the Houses are not normally sitting.

Of course, it would be excellent cover for some heavy hitters to retire to the COBRA bunker and discuss Isshews in general never mind NK in particular. If SHTF, air-travel may be affected, it would be better for the politicians to be back in the country than in Forn Parts where some harm might come to them. I think those of us in Lunnon Town need to keep their eyes peeled out for searchlights summoning Batman to save the nation.

**Gordon Bennett, they've started a pneumatic drill a few feet outside my flat. Thought there were house rules here as in not B4 08.00?!**

ETA: Paul Varkack; here's my 3 for 72 hours at 1 oz; plastic water bottle (empty would be v. light) plus a space blanket and as many water purification tabs as will bring the weight to 1 oz.

Reasoning thus; even in dry summer weather, it gets cold at night here, hence space blanket may enable sleep/ prevent hypothermia. A plastic water bottle will enable water to be collected and the purification tabs for it to be rendered safe to drink. You'd be close to death after 72 hours without water, anyway, and without the tabs you'd likely catch summat nasty.

Of course, I routinely carry more than 1 oz of preptastic stuff on my keyring.

If a nuclear attack does happen, it won't be safe to venture outside for food — you should stay sheltered for at least 48 hours, preferably longer.

Now that would be fun trying to train the dog to do her business on newspaper instead of going outside. NOT!

Erm, if it puts your mind at rest, North Korea would have to fire a missile the other way in order to hit the US - and they can only get as far as Alaska. I was supposed to be flying to Seoul today <<phew!!>>

Oh and my water bottle weighs 1 1/8 oz

I am not sure which is sadder - that it is too heavy, or that I weighed it.:D

And why do they have to only weigh 1 oz? I am a bit of a weakling but even I can carry more than 3 oz :p

    Erm how about

    some razor blades
a box of matches - ooh just weighed that too - it was only 1/4 oz, I can have a couple and in a plastic bag
an empty can? To carry water and to boil it? hmm, just weighed a small one of those - it was 1 1/2 oz. Maybe if I took fewer matches they would balance each other out.

    :rotfl:

My visit to CAT was lovely, but not terribly informative. Could have spent a fortune on books but, in fact, only bought one "How green are my wellies"? Looks highly readable but not terribly helpful in a SHTF situation. They do a range of short courses though which are worth keeping an eye on. They really were pioneers back in the 1970's, when they took over the slate quarry and took a lot of flak for it - but they were right in what they foresaw. I am looking forward to going back in the summer (if you gift aid your entrance, you get free entry for a year) to see the gardens. GQ - they reckon they have never knowingly killed a slug - they just aren't a problem. I am not sure if that is due to their techniques, their altitude or the slate they grow on / through.
