2T just had a look and the only reference I can find is on flutrackers and that says a policeman has died and a colleague is suffering from a flu like illness, an unidentified virus. It also says one other person, a teacher, has died but no more details than that other than some members of the community have been prostrated with flu like symptoms. Don't we live in interesting times??? Cheers Lyn xxx.
There is also reference to an unknown virus in Greece that they think is an enterovirus that produces flu like symptoms and can lead to cardial inflammation but no real info on that either.0 -
The comments of Grieve and Wright on living off the land make interesting reading here http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/shortcuts/2013/apr/11/maine-hermit-survival-guide-steal-forage?CMP=twt_guIf you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0

Two interesting items from FluTrackers... first is a report of this new H7N9 flu - now at 38 cases and 10 deaths.
They talking about how 2 out of the 38 are hotel chefs - and how they handle a lot of poultry in the job..
Then there is this...
The OIE, World Organisation for Animal Health, highlights the exceptional nature of the influenza A(H7N9) event notified by China
Paris, 11 April 2013 – According to the official reports sent to the OIE by the Chinese Veterinary Authorities, poultry that have tested positive for the presence of influenza virus A(H7N9) and are also suspected of being the source of reported human cases, do not show any visible signs of disease, making it very difficult to detect this virus in poultry.
“Based on the information currently available we are facing a rather exceptional situation, because we are dealing with an influenza virus of very low pathogenicity for poultry which has the potential to cause severe disease when it infects humans”, stated the Director General of the OIE, Dr Bernard Vallat.
Interesting times... :eek::eek:0 -

Just as a precaution I will use it every time I come back into the house, it was what was reccommended to do in the swine flu outbreak here in the UK and it won't do any harm but might be useful in the long run, Cheers Lyn xxx.
Very sensible idea, I will pick up some for my kids too before term begins - especially DD who gets bus and tube to school.0 -

I also saw that North Korea has moved one of their missiles into the upright ''fire'' position, that is worrying!
I've read all the conspiracy theories. But ultimately it might be nothing more than the new guy trying to big himself up with his military. Hopefully we are talking nothing other than a test launch/macho display and hopefully it won't go pearshaped (all bets are off if one lands on someone's territory).0 -
He could scare people into fleeing with his hairstyle alone, he doesn't need missiles.
I love John Wyndham, have all his books and also the Dr.Palfrey ones - I forget who wrote them.0 -
I just received a surprise phone call to interview me for a vacancy in Saudi! It all went very well, fantastic wages, ideal location, perfect for me....until she mentioned I would be living in a single female complex. Then I pointed out my ''happily married'' status on the application I sent them and said my husband of 32 years would not be thrilled at me suddenly being classed as single again . She is now sending me a different application form for ''married women who wish to be accompanied by their husband/guardian''....hmmmmmm“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come.
