I am a bit upset this morning. Whilst I am not directly affected by any of the benefit changes that are now happening for so many thousands out there, two people I know are, with recent disasterous consequences. A friend I have known years OD'd a few days ago and ended up in hospital (she said she wants to die
) and another (more an acquaintance) a guy who was involved in a horrible motorbike accident when he was 17 (now in his 30's) who suffered slight brain damage and has been left with a severe personality disorder which renders him unemployable, is now suicidal and unable to cope. Both of them have 'spare' bedrooms and both of them are now facing life below the breadline. I am finding it hard to feel happy and positive at the moment. Its all starting to get to me, especially with the added thread of nuclear war that is brewing elsewhere. Life seems to be collapsing to a lot around me, even I am starting to worry about the future, what future? the banking crisis, the benefit cuts, the threat of wars, its all going mad and I am feeling particularly worried about it all today and I have to wrap parcels for eBay sales and all I feel like doing is going to hide under the duvet and sleep to escape it all and I never get depressed, but I think I am today. Its all getting to be a bit much at times isn't it.

Dear SB
Please, please don't worry. I know a lot of carp stuff is being reported at the moment, I used to feel the same when I could see bad things happening, it really made me anxious.
And I ended up making myself right depressed over things beyond my control.
Don't let this make you ill/anxious. I finally realised that I couldn't do anything about most of the stuff that happens around the world, worrying about it didn't change anything & just made me feel worse.
All you can do in this life, is live it the best you can, yes, be aware, read threads like this to prepare for your own SHTF times in life, so you and yours can have some security that you will be fed, warm, and have a roof over your head.
Reach out to your friends in need, help them if you can, even if it's a warm meal, a shoulder to lean on, try and think it out together what they can do. Could they share a house? It's extreme, but, better than struggling alone....? Depending on how well they know each other.... Do they have friends they can lodge with to help each other out?
These cuts are terrible, and affecting the most vulnerable, I think we will all have to reach out to neighbours, friends and family to help them, check they are ok, that they are coping. We already do help our old neighbour with food shopping, d.i.y., etc. and seem to have good neighbours where we live, all looking out for each other.
Don't despair, there are still charities, volunteers, good people out there....
Take care of yourself too

Firstly my phoned died completely...........dead, deceased, gone to the great phone shop in the sky.
To top it all I had to go to the hospital on my birthday, they told me I am very very short sighted (No S*** Sherlock) and have the beginning of a cataract and blepheritis the optician will have to keep a close eye on that, but I don't have any signs of retinopathy which is great news :j
Then DH took me out to dinner, we were going to go to the carvery, but he wanted to go to the local Harvester instead.....wrong move I asked for a well cooked steak and got a rare oneso they took the whole plate away to re-cook it, when it came back it was still pink and as tough as old boots on the outside, and everything eklse had been put in a warmer, I complained again and they said oh we will take it back and cook it properly  three times cooked steak, I should blurdy cocoa, so I told them they could keep their meal and that they had spoiled my birthday and asked for the phone number of head office to complain. I can't fault the waiting staff because they deducted the price of my meal from the bill and were very apologetic, but the so called chef needs to be re-trained, or barbecued on his own spit  I remember the last bad meal we had there it was the same "chef" on duty.
Rant over you can come out from behind your cushions now I am normally a sweetie.........honest
Hey rant away, we all need to let of steam now and then!
Just think, this time next year, you'll be laughing about it all (either that or, OMG we could afford to eat out last year?!*)
Keep your pecker up

Morning all its trying to snow here..bit pathetically but its still white lol
1989 it snowed this week as I was getting married and worrying no-one would be able to get to the church, the following saturday a heatwave descended on us for the rest of the summer so here's hoping!!
Sky news are getting a bit excited aren't they? They've even got computer graphics showing all the weapons in NK and the US..
You sound a bit stressed this morning Suburbanwifey I get like that some days I think we all do hun it comes with the 'prepping' outlook I think, as we're all that bit more aware of whats going on in the world it can sometimes get a bit overwhelming.
Hope your friends will be ok I've seen it happening here too as there are a lot of people going to be affected by the changes.
When they demolished our estate and rebuilt people were given the option to downsize or take a 'like for like' property even if they were underoccupied.
Most people went for the latter meaning probably half our estate is underoccupying atm..
I had a day off yesterday from prepping and bakedI find baking or sewing a great stress relief..if I am REALLY desperate I clean so you can always tell if I'm worried when I say I've been cleaning :rotfl:
I'm keeping an eye on the prepper chat through various forums and the good news is its bullets and beans as usual on most
Missrlr hope you have a wonderful birthday XXXX:beer:0 -

I'm a great believer in keeping under the radar and not asking for permission - because it's often refused without a sensible reason. We're lucky with our HA because we're so far away from the office that they never come out, and also they are very good and easy going. A builder sub-contracted to them put in our new stove when the last one sprung a leak, and I got to choose the posh wood surround as well.
Re chicken keeping etc I would do my Miss Marple act, (highly polished & perfected!) -very flustered and very apologetic and promise never ever to be so wicked again as to feed a chicken an illegal anchovy.
When you live under a dictatorship then I think silent, devious, and sneaky is the way forward :rotfl::rotfl:
Hey Mar
I like your thinking (goes away to plan covert camoflagued quail pen....)

Hello all
Getting chat happy today. 2 weeks off work must be going stir crazy....
I think you all need a jolly good cheer up - I shall do my best:
I was up early, took DDog out, all was well until she disappeared into a hedge & I found her scoffing a mouldy old fat ball someone had tossed into the park! Walking dustbin, the only 'fallout' I am expecting is from her rear end later today - yeesh. Picture a middle aged woman gingerly trying to scrape up sqidgy deposits later....
She is now snoring, again, and will not get her usual lunch treat, as she's already had her breakfast (dog food pouch, biscuit, topped with porridge else she won't eat it) & fatball.
I guess, depending on how she is, she will get her tea (pouch, biscuits, topped with a bit of our dinner). Looks like butter wouldn't melt in her mouth, little tyke! She's a favourite with the older crowd, as she knows who has treats, and sits and waits for it every time! All hairy with long eyelashes, eyebrows and chin fur, cute and knows it, works those sad eyes on them every time!
Little monkey, wouldn't be without her. I can thoroughly reccommend a hairy companion (human or otherwise!) to cheer you up and give you company. Now I wonder if I can persuade her that quails aren't for hunting/eating?
She's a right little character, a rescue hound, and I remember the chap saying not to let her off lead, I should've known! Everytime, we are hunting under hedges, up hills, even pulled her out a rabbit hole once! Still, she makes us laugh (puff, run, swear through gritted teeth, grin, smile and giggle)
When the sun comes out, (it will, it will), the world doesn't seem such a bad place, I can always count my tins, pat my teabag collection, check the toilet roll stash, watch my seedlings grow, peep at the bank account, which actually has something in it to look at! Fall in my freezer trying to get the old stuff out the bottom, before DDog wakes up demanding another outing...
Keep well, fed, safe and warm all, and above all, prep away!
