This government may re-introduce the hearth tax to fight global warning! That would mean an army of tax inspectors knocking on peoples' doors.0 -
Struggling to keep warm right now
trying to keep the heating low to save money on the meter.. Should get up and go and make a hot water bottle, but it's too cold in the kitchen
Think I need to drag OH to bed and warm up
The lighter evenings are lovely even though it's so cold. Having some sun coming into the flat hides the mould a little bit somehow haha!
Sent over 30 job applications today (eeesh!!) in our new countryfied area, so keeping fingers crossed... So then we can move, get settled, better quality of life, I can get prepping again and generally feel less anxious about everything. Well that's the plan...!
I've just noticed this C.R.A.P.R.O.L.L.Z doodar, can I be a member? I tick all the boxes (at least I do in my mind even if my camping stoves and several types of fuel are in storage atm...)! Me and OH are medically trained (human and veterinary) so I don't know what kind of moniker we'd have!0 -

The chicken policeI think we are too conformist, it's drummed into us from an early age, can you see France or Spain taking any notice? I think not
Just watch out for nosy neighbours. The most wasted day is one in which we have not laughed.0 -
Butterfly, don't worry about the cataract, I've just had my first eye done and I'm going in for the second op on Friday. I was able to throw away my glasses after the first op, although I have needed a contact lens in the other eye to be happy about driving. It has absolutely transformed things for me.
I was minus 5 in each eye so the difference between the two eyes after the first op was a bit disconcerting. If Easter hadn't got in the way, I'd have been able to have the second eye done sooner.
I had heard some NHS trusts are trying to ration cataract ops and trying to say you can only have one eye done, but my consultant said they wouldn't do that if you are very short sighted in both eyes, you need to have both eyes done.
The op itself is nothing to worry about, honestly. It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -

Just watch out for nosy neighbours.I agree with that. We've been trained up to be good little sheeple. Trouble is, sheep are easily penned and easily shorn, are they not? Far better to be like the wily mountain goat; agile, wilful, bliddy-minded and able to thrive anywhere.
As the economy wobbles further, there will be a lot of people wounded and indignant at having done the right things for decades and still ending up pauperized.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I'm a great believer in keeping under the radar and not asking for permission - because it's often refused without a sensible reason. We're lucky with our HA because we're so far away from the office that they never come out, and also they are very good and easy going. A builder sub-contracted to them put in our new stove when the last one sprung a leak, and I got to choose the posh wood surround as well.
Re chicken keeping etc I would do my Miss Marple act, (highly polished & perfected!) -very flustered and very apologetic and promise never ever to be so wicked again as to feed a chicken an illegal anchovy.
When you live under a dictatorship then I think silent, devious, and sneaky is the way forward :rotfl::rotfl:0 -
