    Afternoon Everyone,
Just dull colourless skies, no clouds, wet and cold. Miserable to be honest. Bored too...and that's something I don't usually suffer with. Though if honest I have become more bored since being on my own...

I know what's coming though...just for something to do...a walk to the supermarket againemo23.gif
    Hello Popperwell

Don't get down, it should be happy happy happy, joy joy joy for us all, cos we have all prepped against that rainy day don't worry folks, it must bethe pills kicking in).

Hey Pops, are you the man in our local Asda who walks around pointing out the bargains/reduced (our Asda puts the bread trolley in different places)? He always seems to be there when we are,and must see us checking the reduced stuff....

Either that or, (shudders at the thought) its a spirit customer who has died in store (under aload ofreduced frozen meat, or trampled to death when the whoopsied meat comes out....) and comes out to help skint customers....!

It's ok, the tablets have kicked in now, & the dogs stomach is making threatening rumbling sounds. It may betime to venture out into the windswept wilds again.... :)

Everyone has to keep their pecker up. Now. That is an order!

Butterfly, don't worry about the cataract, I've just had my first eye done and I'm going in for the second op on Friday. I was able to throw away my glasses after the first op, although I have needed a contact lens in the other eye to be happy about driving. It has absolutely transformed things for me.

I was minus 5 in each eye so the difference between the two eyes after the first op was a bit disconcerting. If Easter hadn't got in the way, I'd have been able to have the second eye done sooner.

I had heard some NHS trusts are trying to ration cataract ops and trying to say you can only have one eye done, but my consultant said they wouldn't do that if you are very short sighted in both eyes, you need to have both eyes done.

The op itself is nothing to worry about, honestly.

I am minus 10 in one eye and minus 11 in the other and have astigmatisms in both eyes

    Hello all

I have been doing a small stock take as I have been buying odd bits but never really worked out what I have!
As I plan to bug in due to living in a place most of you will be heading for (farm!) I have built up freezer x2 stocks to the max as we have a genny although I will probably have to live off lamb & beef as this is what had an "accident" last! :rotfl: Sorry to all veggies and sensitive types!

I have a reasonably every day food store and havent included any of this in my list as it is always changing. I also have a spring, veg patch, are able to forage and hens although not laying v well due to the cold weather. I have a good stock of essentials loo roll. coffee, tea, first aid supplies, beer , wine and chocolate.
I am considering saving for a dehydrator and a vacuum packer to store my veg and any bargains I find.

Anyway see what you think! I am starting to prep and this is my starting point.
    7.5kg pasta all different types
6kg rice plus 6 ready packets
1.5kg cous cous plus 4 packets
    1.5 kg oats
7.5kg lentils, soup mix beans etc lots diff types
    2kg dried fruit
    8l UHT milk plus dried
    2l oil
    1kg salt
    3kg sugar
    7kg flour
    3kg pizza/bread mix plus yeast x 6 packs
16l bottle water even though we have a spring
    12 tins of fish
    13 tins asstd soup
25 tins beans, chick p's, mixed beans etc
    5 tins milk
22 tins BB spag, meatballs , ready meals etc
    9 tins veg
    6 fruit
    4 custard
    100+ household candles
    100+ t lights
    5 boxes firelighters
    loads of matches
    wind up torches
    paraffin
    2 x lamps
    Batteries and regular torches
    Good first aid kit
Waterproof /out door clothing/thermals, bloody living in it at the moment as lambing in the cold not funny!
I will get round to copying important documents and I carry a get home bag in my car plus surviva tin/equipment.

Lot of books, preserves, gardening equipment, seeds, tractor & landrover plus diesel tank. I cook off bottle gas, heat with wood and have at least a years wood supply in. Im learning to sew and I am pretty practical regarding a lot of fixing things! We are also able to defend ourselves in the event of unwanted visitors its a case of "get orff my land!":rotfl:

Please let me know what you think and what I should add or build up. I have probably missed lots of stuff I already have and you will remind me I already have it! LOL

PS IN a SHTF sitution if you can get here you are welcome as long as you bring supplies and equipment and ID yourselves using your MSE names. Oh god I have waffled for ever sorry!

    Well done!

    Can I live with you?

    How about:

Honey - as sweetner, preserver, also has anti-bacterial uses inwounds?

Bicarbonate of soda - for cooking & multi-use cleaner

White vinegar - preserving and cheap cleaner

More stuff for home baking - flours, baking powder, dried yeast.

Spices/herbs, freeze, dry, use in baking/cooking for variety?

Pretty darn good list you have there already!

    Microlivestock -

Quail and rabbits (and guinea pigs) can be justified as pets = no paperwork. Once you get in to micropigs, microgoats, etc there are DEFRA regs to follow. Also micropigs tend to be just "piglets".

Be aware of whether your neighbours can see what you're up to, especially when it comes to "harvesting" your living meat storage. Rabbits may scream if this is done wrong/too slow.

And on that cheerful note, I'm off to find some hay to buy!

I knew some one would remind me of things I have and hadn't listed.

I have loads of herbs and spices didnt think to list them Doh! I grow a lot of herbs and freeze those that are not available thru winter.

I have yeast, bicarb & white vinegar although I could increase the amounts.

Marthada I make real custard with my eggs! although I have got 4 packs for when I cant be ar*ed!

Thank you for all your comments, one thing about prepping is thinking of everything you need! or want!!

And thanks for the cheery post BBB:D

Butterflybrain...there are so many stories(genuine)surfacing out there about how people are being affected or will be but they are all coming out after much of the damage has been done. Finally some of the media is being less critical of those who need help from the state the DM is still peddling a lot of hurtfulhateful nonsense.

I never thought I would use Twitter but it really has opened my eyes and I know the people I am following are genuine.

Erm, I amalittle bit squeamish on the harvesting front. Eggs I can handle. Could leave that to OH who was brought up on a farm... MIL showed us how to skin apheasant, ok doing theprep, although last timewehad(darnthisspacebar!) quail, couldn't eat itas itreminded me of baby birds to much! Mind you, if you are hungry enough, you'd eat all sorts.

Daresay ddog wouldn't befussy. Couldn't do guineapigs asarelative does havvvvvvve themas pets...Funny little squeakers, they would drive the ddog mad with their sounds.

    Atthis rate Iwillbevegetarian...
