The wind has eased considerably here too, but it's hissing hail and rain now. Honestly this year has been incredible for some sort of water falling from the sky record.
Enjoy the fluffy snow, we don't get it much where I am except for 'that year' when everyone got it. I have an amazing but very underused sledge.
My DD brought me some lovely daffodils ( bless her) and they sit all yellow and beaming with their big bright heads, reminding me that spring is not so far away.
It will be nice to enjoy lighter evenings and maybe a dry day or too again.
edit: just looked out the window, what a shock! in the time it took me to type this we have a good coating of yes.... fluffy snow... astonishing!0 -
Im obviously sad as I was pleased to see a reply from Docky
Its very windy here but not too chilly although I have only been as far as the bins.
Mini crisis weekend when we realised the little river of water in the kitchen wasnt a spill but a leak  I was worried it was the washer but thank goodness its not. It would seem that when I pour something down the kitchen sink not all the water went outside, and now none of it goes down the grid but comes sploshing into the kitchen. I took off the base board which was siliconed on - dontcha just love the LL's workers - and we had a tiny wave pour in. Its hard to re-programme your brain to empty coffee dregs into a jug and not just pour down the plughole. Its also flipping hard work to bale out the bowl when you wash up, I can't lift the bowl when its full and tip it outside due to my wonky shoulders.
Its not a major crisis more a change of everything you do automatically. Actually points out one thing - how we take simple things for granted like drains and water. I am managing to use very little water to do tasks to make the disposal easier which would be important if SHTF and we no longer had running water. I now have a very clean kitchen floor and a totally empty sink top and worksurface ready for the plumber, it looks very nice and I should do it more often:)
We line a sieve with kitchen towel and poor waste though that to avoid coffee grounds clogging the waste and it works well. We learnt the hard way too. hope you get it sorted.0 -
A dusting of snow here and a bit breezy outside. So nothing extreme here just yet. In a way I'm more reassured by wintry weather. It's the odd mild(ish) very wet windy weather we've been having that unsettles me. The truly unseasonal stuff makes me worry that our planet is truly f*cked.
Anyway I have the luxury of not having to take the car out and as a paid up member of Batty Preppers Inc I am fully stocked so I say 'Bring it on'. :j
I hope my delivery of 5kg soap flakes makes it through though.I'm in online shopping mode at the mo. Yesterday I took delivery of a bumper pack of flax seed. What was I thinking? There's enough there to stop the entire North of England from ever getting constipated ever again in their lives .
Edit: Belay that weather report. Just seen horizontal snow streaming past the window. Which can only mean one thing - a great steaming bowl of porridge! (with a generous scattering of ground flax nat.)

....I would never use an air freshener - I'm partial to the occasional joss stick but I do wonder sometimes about the ingredients.

I used to do online surveys on my household habits but I think they gave me up as a bad job as I'm a bit of a failure as a consumer.
On to prepping - I'm looking for a manual meat mincer. Manual because it doesn't rely on electricity and it's not as if I would be mincing large amounts. Any recommendations?....
Can't use air freshners either as they make me sneeze so or worse, start off my asthmaSame with soap powders, cream cleaners, WUL etc, & lemon causing the worst reaction by far. The Offspring laugh at my bicarb & white vinegar stash until I tell them they can buy polish & fabric deodorants if they wish--showing them the  prices at the same time--& do the ruddy jobs themselves :rotfl:Do like a nice amber jozzie tho; haven't burned one in a while, so I'll put that on my 'tudu' list..thanks
*makes mental note to weigh up pros & cons of reading about joss sticks first*
Mincers; depending on how robust you'll need it, there's one on the C1iff0rd Jame$ site..I do love looking around hardware shops & those weird little books you get free in tv listings *giggles at B1g Y1n & his one hooodge slipper rant*The weather models are showing very high winds , sleet and snow with a real wind chill tomorrow for most of the UK...stay warm folks...be still my beating heart rrrrafff
} could make me sit thru those) & you remind me of Mrs Bay1e with your weather updates. She was the housekeeper in A$ Time goes Bye, who kept spouting the shipping forecast even tho the house was in deepest Hants
Had a letter from some rellies in Oz t'other day (they're fine if a bit water-logged in NSW, but thankfully well away from the nasty stuff) & it got me to thinking--as I do--....if we say 'down under'...do they refer to us as 'up over'? This, my fellow Fannites, could be our Ponder for the Present. Answers on the back of an old cereal packet; all entries will be recycled & no plastics will be considered. Entries after Bin Day will not be considered but will still be recycled.
Skies are looking ominous here & my knees are playing up so rain at least is about to strike & for a couple of days to come, judging by the twingesHope you're keeping warm & dry, wherever you are.

Down here, no problems! Cold & breezy but mostly sunny & clear, with the odd sudden downpour of soggy white flakes. Worrying, it definitely feels like early Spring, the birds think it's Spring, the daffodils have buds on... you kind of want to warn them somehow!Angie - GC Jul 25: £225.85/£500 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0

Yeah, I'm looking out at a flawless blue sky, sunshine and, the movement of twigs on the trees, only the very lightest of breezes.
Makes me wonder what is waiting in the wings to descend on my life in a few hours................ mustn't grumble, I was lolling around indoors with 2 windows open and no heat on until 10 pm last night.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

My god woman - try opening the windows here and I'd regret it. The coldest wind in the history of the planet is out there
Got 2-3" of lovely fluffy fine snow lying and the sky's just gone grey again. I want to move and do something but the rest of the house is just too cold to be assed. Plus I got no ooomph at all.
