  • Very cold, but just a few bits of sno w here. Hung sheet out to dry yesterday, was out for 5hrs, came in a bit frozen but actually had dried quite a bit. Dont think I will be hanging lots of bits of underwear out though!

Still waiting for the big snow to hit, expected it last weekend and never really materialised. Dont really need to go out for aything, very well stocked up, but might go for a walk later for some fresh air, so I dont go stir crazy.

I also read GQ posts and I nearly always smile and nod along! I feel quite an affinity with many of the posters on here :A

Hope everyone stays warm and safe

As my fellow inhabitant of this county says nothing here...yet. So may pop out and see if any bread/buns are still on the shelves. If not I can make my own/do without.

I hope it stays away as I have to go on a rare visit to Durham tomorrow night. And I am dependent on public transport. But also would hate to get there and find the reason for being there had been cancelled(seeing a show)

Thanks folks on behalf of ds and family!:) He said it is snowing already and settling :( Also the removal men turned up 1 hour early which does mean the van can be loaded up earlier before weather gets any worse! :j Unfortunately he doesn't get the keys to new place until 12 midday! I feel it is now a race with the weather! Keep those positive thoughts going! He is signing the paperwork now and hoping the builders will relent and let him in earlier!

Walked doglet early so now off to ms centre to see if anyone has turned up for treatments and needs a warming cuppa and chat! Hope to be back before the snow hits!

    Take care all

Well the snow overnight either tapered off or changed to sleet whilst we slept as there was just an inch or so on the ground and the roads weren't too slippy. So the kids schools were open, although they both said they may have to ring parents if things go bad and send the kids home early.

From about 9 am the snow started and it has gotten heavier and heavier all morning. OH took some stuff to the tip this morning before it got too bad. Still coming down, but we still haven't got the levels others have. Mind you fully expecting calls from the schools after lunch if the snow keeps on.

Gave the chickens some hot oats this morning which they gulped down so hopefully they will be ok. I make it watery so they get some water down them as well, because even warm water freezes so quickly in this weather.

Got some nice stewing beef so cooking some beans and soup mix up ready now to go in with that and plenty of veggies later. Will either do it in the pressure cooker or may do it in the oven as I was going to do some baking to keep us going at weekend and son wants roasties with his stew-plus it will warm up the kitchen lovely lol.

Did extra mash last night so thats sorted so with stew/veggies/and roasties should have a tasty hearty meal for this cold day. Leftovers will do a pie for tomorrow nom nom.

Snowing quite a lot here! Nowt before I went to bed, woke up to a white world, always a childish joy, love the way snow arrives so silently.... I feel a certain amount of relief that it's arrived, as have been prepping for it for what feels like weeks. Managed to persuade OH that it would be very foolhardy to attempt to go to work, luckily did not need much persuasion, and I think he's pleased to be here now. Hopefully he will be even more pleased when I serve the yummy soup I've got ready for lunch!! I reckon we would be OK (horses, cats, us) for 2 to 3 weeks, but really hope it does not come to that as I think cabin fever would have set in long before supplies run out. Keeping my fingers crossed we don't lose the elec. - again, we would be OK, as have the woodburner, cook on gas from our tank, and have loads of candles (and matches!!), but it does make the evenings rather long and boring - I can't read by candlelight, but do love the radio (and have lots of batteries). The only weather victim so far is our bay tree, which has been flattened, so I think I will venture out (in the trapper hat) and tie it up with some bubblewrap round it ....
Hope you all stay safe and well, xx the cake

 I remember Izal it was always in the school loos in the 60's and 70's............. tracing paper for your bum

think the school I went to had bought all the stocks and managed to keep the loos supplied with this until at least mid 80s! So glad when their stocks ran out and we had (not much better) wafer thin stuff (in bright pink how does that work?):D

Lots of media references today to 'panic buying'. In fact I've used it myself without thinking.
Imo the term implies an element of over the top precautions. But were those 'panic buyers' were just being sensible? ;)
If these shoppers were 'panic buyers', what does this say about us?
Is this the 'panic preppers' thread? :rotfl:
  • FedEx just brought my new Barbour (if you are in the market for a Barbour bargain, check out the Grabbit board, I just posted about this coat on there!) and the snow is everywhere and thick now, still raining down in huge flakes. Heating is on full so toasty warm (dreading the heating bills though) and I want to go out to play in it, so may go make a snowman later.
