Well, I don't mean to be unfeeling but I don't see why what has happened in Algeria stopped our PM giving his long trailed speech about wanting changes for our membership to the EU. And if it was because he decided not to go the Netherlands, just say it in London outside No.10...

    Any excuse...

I was thinking the same thing.

I wouldn't like to say he was pleased at what at happened,as I am sure not even he is that heartless. But did wonder if he sighed with relieve, knowing it gave him a good excuse not to go.

Re cold - around zero feels colder than minus 6 because its damper, the lower temps are dry cold which doesn't make you shiver just as much.
Re grit in heavy snow - you're wasting it by spreading it while it's snowing, snow will just pile on top of it and freeze over. Wait until it stops snowing then shovel it away , then spread grit.
Logs or coal frozen into lumps need a good belt with an axe or shovel, preferably when you're in a mood. Ask me how I know all this :)

    I've been Money Tipped!
We are as ready as we can be (I hope) but strangely here although cold the car isn't iced up, I know it warms up slightly before the snow hits though so that could explain it! Anyway very thankful I don't have to de ice it before going to the ms centre for my couple of hours of volunteering (making the cuppas) :)

Please can you all send some positive vibes to my son and his little family as today is moving day for them! I know bad timing but they had no choice and need to get out of this flat and into the other (warmer) one as quickly as they can! It is north london so the snow won't hit until later hopefully!

Snay snug and warm if you can!

  • Gosh, its cold and the heating is chugging away here. In my home in NW England at the moment and barely any snow outside. I think we are forecast for later today. I have a FedEx delivery coming sometime today (new Barbour coat I bought half price on sale, so hoping snow doesn't hamper his progress to my house today)

So, no snow but prepared for it - got snow boots so I can get out of the house if need be for a walk, house full of food, so much prepping the last 6 months we could survive 6 months I think. Was supposed to be traveling back home to our other house in Scotland this weekend, but with weather like this, probably staying here.

I'm waiting for the snow to be honest, forecast here is currently yellow warning and supposed to be covered later today. We shall see.

  • HI all
Wonderful posts guys, I've been smiling, nodding in agreement and chuckling all week:T
Day off today so can sit around with my joggers tucked into my dayglo thermal socks with mismatched top, cardi and hat and not feel like a loonie Tho' the darling mancub has just walked into the kitchen and raised an eyebrow at my attractive attire:D

Catznine lots of positive wishes flying over to where your son and family are hope everything goes well.

GQ I smiled at "Ach well, I'm old enough and sarky enough to just roll with it" its exactly how ive felt all week at work, I'm convinced "stupid" is spreading just like the flu virus:rotfl:.

Well i am no longer an Appr. foodie virgin, had the excitement of unpacking lots of boxes and the bemusement of wondering why i thought I would use multiple packets of prunes!!
Hope you and your loved ones stay safe and cosy, i'm away to look up prune recipes:o
    Hugs WLL x

Thanks guys for input and well wishes.

I have baked in past but its been cheaper to buy reduced bread last few months but reductions on bakery products been really rubbish latly as normall as have lots in freezer.

I have yeast and bread flour and stuff for homebaking do wish had more than 2 eggs now.

All local schools to me shut.Ours is open and 1.2miles made decision cyclepaths be inpassable, that it would probably have to shut early.I have 2younger ones 3year old and 21months. The school said 50%make it in, that school dinners cant make it in today as not cooked on site. They know where I live and all schools around me shut so not unauthorised just feel bad cant make it in. In past i have walked miles in snow to make it to work and if was just me and older one would take her in but have no one to watch younger ones as husbands in work other side of city hoping he makes it home ok.

Quite heavy and constant in south west but not as bad as southwales where mam is.Sky news in Abergavenny making it seem more dramatic than it is asking pointless questions and reporting panic buying.Rang mam shes ok and her husbands walking into work.

Glad to be and oldstyler as in recent years never been caught out as its ingrained in me to keep stock full especially in winter months . Think we always seem to have snow jan.

    Lol at the smug emotion.

Started to think last few days about what we would change in 2013 and decided want to bake more-despite being rubbish at it and shop locally/british and organic only.

I dont want to be at mercy of retailers and shops.

Hope weathers better this year so have good veggie patch and forage.

Kids driving me mad asking when they can go out but still heavy snowfall here and need to ensure they wrapped up warm.

Catzine-good luck with sons housemove dont envy them in these conditions.

Re dave cameron-I think hes done right thing.

with hostages and extreme weather at home cobra committee meeting regular.

Feel bit sorry for them and the the hostages.

Although no ones asking why bp dident have adequate security,
Think algeria acted in good faith and not sure there was ever going to be a good outcome as these terroists were prepared to die and dident want to negociate.
