OH has been out to sprinkle grit around the cars and the path to the chickens. Its really heavy now, so much for the met office. All the TV weather forecast (presumably based on MO) also said we would miss the snow as well, so as much use as a chocolate teapot.
Judging from the numbers shopping today (at least the older generation), us northerners are a worst case scenario type of people so hopefully most people are stocked up and ok.
MIL always has a pretty good stock of food, but had assumed the BBC reports were correct and we were worrying for nothing, so was a bit shocked when OH rang her earlier to point out the snow. At least she has the grit we got her just in case and could nip out to do the bit to the car and the wheelchair ramp for FIL in case. Plus her normal stocks should get her through for a while and hopefully the milk man she has will still keep going-he did last time there was heavy snow.
My Mum and Dad are OK as she naturally over buys food and always has a full freezer. But she does mock me prepping and planning too much as she sees it. She thinks either things will "never happen over here" or "they" will look after us. At least they have a half bag of grit left from last year-again OH got it for them, so can sprinkle some of that, plus their garage has a big overhang/porch which links to the front door and rarely gets iced or snowed on. Means they can pull the car right up and the windscreen stay clear.
Stay safe ev1.

Work colleague got a phone call this afternoon from her hubby to say that people were fighting in the bread aisle in the local supermaket, colleague started to panic, she has fishfingers & chips in for tea & nothing else, no bread or milk etc, not even extra chips as she buy a smallest bag she can. She has a freezer but 'doesn't bother' to keep anything in it!

Very cold here in the London bit of Kent but no snow yet. Met Office is forecasting light snow from tomorrow evening. We'll see.
I went outside this morning to get logs in and they were frosted together into a big lump. Think I'll bring a few bags into the house - I use big supermarket trolley bags to carry them in and they can sit in the kitchen by the back doorIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
OMG Met office still shows us as cloudy but dry here. Meanwhile kids are catching snowflakes on tongues and making snowballs rofl.
Off to take a look-love snow lol.

me too re cake fuel and chocolate
but I am very concerned for all the people who will be caught out in cars, trains etc. I have sent the link to all my family and I hope they take note and pass it around. We are talking 30-50 cm plus very windy so massive and quick drifts. Really dangerous stuff, not pretty at all
Fried pork steaks so that the crust goes crispy. Yummy and to heck with it, it is winter after all
I am glad I am not the only one to worry about people being caught out in cars....I was chatting to my MIL on the phone tonight and she mentioned her daughter was planning a trip to Edinburgh in the car early on Saturday (from near York) with her OH as she had to work there on Monday and they thought they would have a few nice days away........words fail me  Do they live in a parallel universe where you sail through snow drifts and blizzards and arrive from a long journey just in time to visit a superb restaurant for dinner?????? I asked if they were planning thermals, food and a spade in the car.......Apparently they could have had free train travel but thought they would rather drive up.....sometimes, words fail even me....:(“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. Am in hibernation mode now. Dd and hers have just been to steal the car/ go for nappies, thats all she needs but has to go to further away Sm for them. She is on strict orders to check for ys for me
Mum is tucked up and stocked up, thank goodness she listens to me because my brother is useless. Have now convinced her that the huge cupboard in the hall will happily contain more than 4 toilet rolls so we are making sure that everytime us or the kids go we are taking her a big pack.
Its snowing now in a blowy kind of way, trying to kid us that its not really going to drop several tons of white stuff as soon as we sleep. Its slightly warmer too, either that or the candle next to me is getting more powerful :jClearing the junk to travel light

I will get my caravan0 -
Well, where I am the snow is here, light covering at the moment but just been outside to the boot of the car and its beyond freezing, very cold. Cats all snuggled up asleep on their blankets, my freezers are full and I stocked up on more bits from Sainsbury's this afternoon when I went out. Plenty of bread, plus bread flour in for use in the bread maker. I'm prepared and happy to be snowed in all weekend if it so wishes.0

Glad you are all prepared even if it seems some of our colleagues, friends and relatives may not be, no matter how much we warn them....
We are on yet another warning for dangerous storms and high winds. We had torrential rain and hail earlier when we went shopping and friends tell me that much of the north of the island has had no power since Sunday and no internet available where they do have power. So I went shopping this morning to restock all my cupboards and top up the freezers.
I managed to get a sack of potatoes from a gypsy at a third of the cost in the cheapest supermarket. I had almost given up on them as the supermarket scrappy ones were over a euro a kilo! I got a big sack full 36kg for 12 euros so a bargain and they are good quality as well. Have a huge pan of soup on the stove, chicken backs, sage, potato and leek. It smells lovely and I will be taking it to the gym tomorrow to eat for my lunch (I help out for a few hours on Fridays).
I have just seen our bizarre weather forecast...temperatures 5 to 16 and SNOW with high winds. While I appreciate I live almost at the top of a mountain why do they think it will snow at those temperatures???? I was expecting the picture of thunderstorms that has been on our area for weeks.....
Job is going well, my new boss rang me to thank me and praise me for achieving so much the first day....lets hope it lasts!“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. Evening all. I'm reeling and pie-eyed from a hard day at the salt mine. I know exactly how many grit bins there are in this bliddy city and they're being emptied as fast as we can fill them. And some homes have lost all water supply because the pipes are frozen and as for the combi boiler condensate pipes........! Bring me some pain meds now.
Tomorrow shall be more of the same with cherries on top.
No snow at the moment but still some underfoot. City has been noticably scant of customers and some c.s. haven't opened which I guess is problems with the volunteers getting in.
Nan cancelled her Friday hosp appt first thing today and they've re-booked her in for March. Folks are hunkered down at home, cats are on the rads and I've fetched some meds over to SuperGran's and am on orders to do a bread run for her tomorrow. Think I'll do it before work rather than after in case the shelves are stripped (it's a very small T0sco).
If there's no bread, I shall bake some and give that to her. Cooker is gas but realised that the communal boiler house with its kick-a$$ industrial gas boilers would shut down as they have electrical controllers and have to be re-set after every powercut. And there are 4 men who have the keys because only they have The Knowledge and one of them lives miles out in the countryside..............be afraid.
Ach well, I am a child of the sixties and lived without heating or bathrooms with only the wretched Izal Medicated in an outside privvy (anyone under 30 may want to ask a wrinklier pal about the Izal and watch them wince) so am made of stern stuff.
Plus have preptastic things like fleecy underblankets, lots of rugs, 3 season sleeping bag and a drawer full of woolies.
Interesting that the oldies are heeding the warnings and the young'uns are sometimes not. Kind of feel what is politely called a Learning Experience is incoming for some. Let's hope no one suffers too badly for it.
the cake, is your horse/ are your horses grazing out or are they stabled? I'm seeing pix of ponies out in full winter coats without being rugged up, just wondered how yours manage. Hope everyone's animals are warm and well.
The parental cats have devoted themselves to comparing the windowsill above the rad to the floor above the c.h. pipe vs a lap vs a bed. It's a taxing research regime which occupies about 22 hours out of 24, but they'll present a paper on the subject to the Institute of Advanced Snoozeromics around about the time of the summer solstice, should they feel inclined to crawl out from the hedge or off the garden bench.
 2tonsils, your relatives' carelessness beggars belief. In a non-modern society they'd risk their lives being so foolish. In a modern one, they'll get to risk and inconvenience others' lives as well as their own. Really hope they change their mind at the last minute and have a duvet day.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.
