Folks were both using their Y*xTrax this morning and at least a couple of other people who noticed how surefooted they were have been introduced to the wonder of this product.
I have Basics rice pud and mucho milk and tea so will hunker down. Hope the boiler is fixed asap Siegemode; they really pick their moments, don't they?!
OH used his Costc0 version of YT this morning when walking dogs. He speeded along overtaking other dog walkers and had to slow down as they approached their arch enemy whose owner was really struggling. Hope you all stay safe in the snow.I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -

siegemode, I'm cagey about exactly where I live, it's the flipside about being open and honest about other things I do. Let's just say Somewhere in Southern England and leave it at that.;)
I completely understand.katieclampet wrote: »to SM, hope you get your heating sorted out soon, you might have to cuddle up with the cats, a duvet and a hot water bottle.

Our eldest will most definitely be snuggled between us and the other one usually pinches my pillow space and acts as a furry purry headwarmer so it should be nice and cosySorry to hear about the boiler playing up, its the last thing you need in those conditions. Can you manage to keep just one room warm enough for you all?
Stay warm folks, it sounds horrendous and it looks like the weekend will be even worse for most of the UK
Thanks for the updates and hope tomorrow goes well with the new job.
House is quite small but open plan and no chance of shutting rooms off to 2 cats that allow us to live here lol. We are managing to keep the temp up with candles and running the water distiller which gives off quite a bit of heat (usually run it to maintain the temp when breadmaking) Just had spag bol and thats made us feel better. I spent years living in a house with no heating other than a coal fire in the living room and managed well. Moved to our current house in the 90s and until 3 yrs ago relied on useless storage heaters then we had the gas ch put in and I recon its spoilt us and I've gone soft.0 -

Well, it looks like the SHTF in our household this weekend.
I posted the prob on the Gas and Electric thread but this may be useful to others expecting really low temps.

Looks like it may not be the best idea to leave the heating off at the minute, temp due to fall to -5 here in North Staffs.0 -
I love the purry furry image. Used to have a cat who was as daft as a brush and used to like to lie under the covers at full stretch with her head on the pillow and wouldn't be dissuaded from it.
I swear she thought she was human.:rotfl:
Siegemode, a good tip from the bushcrafters and other sources is to eat something really late with a lot of calories in it, like a nice bread roll slathered with butter. This gives your body some fuel to be burning on if you're trying to sleep in colder temps than normal. You also generate heat as your metabolism processes the food.
Of course, you may have digestion issues which make eating just before bedtime unwise, but just a thought, in case it might help.
I've lived in some very poor accomodation over the years, thankfully it's in the past now, so have had experience of going to sleep wearing my pjs, topped with a jogging suit and dressing gown, big socks and a wooly hat. The Style Police would've jailed me for that lot, once they'd stopped laughing.:p
The wooly hat and socks I'll recommend to you, really makes a difference to how warm you sleep.
I'm thinking about my pal, the one who spent 3 hours getting 8 miles home earlier this evening. In a sportscar. I'd bet my last can of baked beans that he didn't have a blanket in it, and that he was in office attire and dress shoes. So thankful he managed to get home, despite getting stuck thrice. He texted back that he shall get the train in tomorrow.
Big hugs to anyone who has to be driving tomorrow. Apart from a short walk to w*rk, I shall be nesting at home.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

:DThanks GQ you've given me the perfect excuse to follow my fav bedtime snack of apple and cheese with chocolate
this is a shtf moment after all. I get a cold head and sleep in hooded fleece pjs on normal night but if the fashion police were to call now they would cart me away for sure :rotfl:

It's finally got quite cold here - we may even have some frost! But nothing else to report, at all. Not even white bits on the hills. Drove down to the west of the county & back yesterday & was in more danger from flooding than freezing, TBH.
Well done with the job, 2tonsils - hope tomorrow goes really well!Angie - GC Jul 25: £225.85/£500 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -
Congratulations 2Tonsils, that's really great news. Well done you.:j
Siegemode:- Is your boiler one of these condensing ones? Many of them stop working if the pipe which takes the condensed water outside gets frozen. It might be as daft as that and not too expensive.
It's -5 here this morning and apparently somewhere in Norfolk is -13. Hope everyone stays warm today.
I just read this

Very interesting given the various store closure going on. They are right about J*hn L*wis, we bought some crockery from them last year. Went especially into town to have a look and feel of the plates (as you do) and were told they were just on-line. We had seen them on-line which was why we went into town to buy them!:rotfl: It's a lovely shop but when you want something on the day on-line is not much use.:(Give us the strength to encounter that which is to come, that we may be brave in peril, constant in tribulation, temparate in wrath, and in all changes of fortune, and down to the gates of death, loyal and loving to one another.”0
