If possible get her permission to speak directly with her GP and see if she could be moved to your home perhaps? Then you can get her treated as a temporary resident in your local area which at least eases the travel part of the problem.

I know she's 86, and we all have to go sometime, but she's a tough old bird & otherwise as fit as a fiddle & sharp as a razor. The attitude seems to be, stop taking up a seat & just die quietly, there are people in real need here! It's heartbreaking, seeing her sick & in discomfort, quite literally dying rather than make a fuss, whilst the service she utterly believes in totally ignores her or just offers her telephone appointments. So far that's resulted in her being told to take more paracetamol, for a heart attack... So I'm racing up & down the county trying to to be of some practical use - and probably just getting underfoot & annoying the docs - whilst Christmas charges down towards us. Haven't even done my cards yet.
Not a minor situation at all TW, I have(as many know)gone through this earlier in the year and am not happy with the care given. It added to the stress for both of us. I even now believe though probably the outcome would be the same, from the reaction our family Dr gave when I told him of the last days Mum endured, he was less than happy. But it won't bring my dear Mum back. Thinking of you and my heart goes out to you."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

SHTF here yesterday. Have an electricity bill of over £400. Worst thing is I know its right so has to be paid. It's electricity and gas. So have gone round house unplugging stuff, but need to do more. Going to try and sell stuff too, hope people haven't got all their Christmas presents yet!! Will manage eventually!
I have annoyed some, not too many thankfully and had them say(you have some savings)use them and get the heating on. To some extent I would have been better not to have anything to fall back on. Or less. That sounds ungrateful.
It is not actually that much(though it perhaps looks as though it is on paper)As yet due to legal reasons "I haven't got it yet!" I have never said that I should not use it before asking for help from the state and I will be.
But even being very careful and cutting back as far as possible...any help is stopped immediately and yet within 4-6 weeks I will need to ask for help and jump through hoops again. However with the changes coming in the new year there is no guarentee help will be there.
Should the solicitor take off as much as a previous onewanted to deal with the estate things I may need help immediately.
Bad enough at any time but at Christmas but I am having to fill in forms and wait and see if what I am entitled to at present will continue as they are changing things and getting rid of/reducing what they give now. So there is stress being caused for many. And I know many are struggling in many situations so I am one of so many.
A £400 bill...oh dear! I have kept my own around £65 per month and use so little I even think for what I use that is too much. I have said before I run one light at night, a desktop computer, a DAB radio, occasionally have a cooked meal, a fridge feezer and occasionally put on the washer and tumble drier.
And not every day the central heating and that is only perhaps for two hours. So I can imagine how easy it is to see a bill as high as yours.
Knowing how low many benefits are(even wages after you pay the essentials)I do wonder how people pay for food, heating, rent and soon the bedroom tax. I hope you can sort it out without too much worry. In some ways Mum is better off as she has none of this to worry her now.
Well, we'll all be cutting back still further and in energy power poverty. We know they put the price of using it up a few months ago, we know the new green energy plans of the Government have/will see extra charges added and in the last day or two it has been announced that we will now see another increase in our bills because they are upgrading the national grid as the system is creaking so that's another added charge we will all have to pay for the next few years.
As your bill seems higher than usual, have you managed to work out why?"A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

It looks like my 12 year old border collie might have a condition which requires her to be on permanent meds - another expense. But I'll live on bread and water if it means she has a better quality of life for her remaining years.
As for heating and lighting costs,:mad::mad: it's all very well giving out advice about how to cut back. What do they advise for those of us who are already creeping round in the dark like moles swathed in blankets with hot water bottles clutched to our chests? Eh? Eh?0 -
Re permanent meds, you can sometimes get a better deal by paying for a private prescription and using an online vet pharmacy. For on-going issues this usually works out best, but only once dose and so on is sorted, Plus you will have to pay for check ups etc - some vets do payment plans where the costs of such things are factored over say 12 months and so you pay a set amount each month - bit like DD for energy bills. Could be worth a look or an ask?
We have just had the energy bill in, and I am concerned about the usage, I know we had a have time with the repairs using more power than usual but really the costs are STOOOPID considering all thingsStart info Dec11

Been pootling around after work and am childishly-thrilled with a small punnet of OS blueberries. Nomnomnom.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.
