We have just had the energy bill in, and I am concerned about the usage, I know we had a have time with the repairs using more power than usual but really the costs are STOOOPID considering all things

The worst thing is having to pay a charge even if you cut back...and that will always happen. And as Pineapple says how do you manage if you have taken things as far as you can?

Luckily I was cosy in bed and though not really warm as I write this it seems milder so I am not as cold as usual.

  • oh my, more amber warning rain coming in and so many areas are still under floodwater here and it is still draining over some lanes. Was hearing tonight about all the people along the village lane who were out in the dark last time, clearing drains as much as they could but people driving cars caused bow waves, which overtopped their sandbags. It is coming off the fields and down the hills, nothing to do with local rivers
  • It's warming up to -12C today, so it's snowing on and off. The roads aren't bad but the drivers are. Found a white scrape on the driver's side rear bumper and the husband will go nuts when he sees it. The joys of marriage. I think I got scraped by a trolley in a supermarket.

I have to work December 24 and 25, so I really need to start cooking.

The only good thing about this weather is I can keep the turkey and ice cream out on the deck without having to worry.

It feels like nuclear winter here. Well, that's if anybody is old enough to remember the post nuclear wars movies of the '80s.

  • Situation with my mother put into perspective - just heard that one of neighbours was killed cycling in the big city up the road a couple of days ago. Thinking very much of his wife & young daughters; it must feel as if their world has shattered, completely out of the blue. Trying to work out how, and indeed if, we can help...

It sounds trite but I think it always seems worse when tragedies happen at Christmas. I think that's partly because we realise that Christmas will always bring up bad memories and will never be the same again, for those left behind.
Tricky for those that want to help. Every circumstance will be different but when a friend's 3 year old died of a brain tumour just before Christmas, I was going to cancel my planned stay with them but they insisted I still come. Because they wanted the other child's Christmas to be as normal as possible. :(

I have an interview tomorrow. They were quite taken with the fact that I said I was available to be interviewed before christmas so they've rearranged their schedule to fit me in. :o

I'm nervous, but fingers crossed. just heard a colleague has got another of the jobs i'd gone for. I've not told him I had gone in for it as he's so happy and I don't want to take that away from him. I'm chuffed for him, hopefully it'll be my turn next.
