as a matter of interest which comments do you think are ignorant?0 -
Yes, well, the ignorant ones or the ones who make fun of us will be the first knocking on the door asking us to help them out when their SHTF. People are struggling here and helping each other but I am not sure how much longer people will be able to continue to do that.
Electric bills here in Greece are going up next year by 45 percent as well as having the property tax added. A recent poll showed there are almost one million cut off because they can't pay their bills this year. The payments for unemployment and child benefit are stopped from January 1st. There is no cover now for prescriptions and you have to pay in full at the moment and for doctor's appointments even if you have paid the insurance cover. Although Greece got the money it is going straight back to the banks in Germany to pay the interest on the loans. Even worse is the fact that Greece was eligible for money for the poor/victims of the summer fires and the Greek government did not submit the details so the people could get the money. I sit shaking my head at their stupidity and the people who re elected them.
Have still got the storms here on and off and its much colder today. Not sure that anything at all will happen on 21st but due to the fact that some people could be acting/driving more crazy than usual we are staying at home on that day.
We managed to get cheap tickets for the ferry so will be going somewhere beautiful and peaceful for a few days for Christmas. We are really looking forward to the break, although we will still be in Greece it is a remote area up in the mountains near to a lake. Lovely.
I would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a fantastic new year to follow it. 2012 has been a very difficult year for many of us so just hoping it gets much better next year. xxxx“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. 2T thats awful about fuel bills! I can see a lot of people going back to wood fires and using hayboxes. I hope you have a lovely Christmas and New year and enjoy your few days away.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J0

Most British preppers can store food/water etc...but due to many areas being unsuitable(lack of space)many of us could not "Take to the hills" or get permission/afford to build shelters so of course when they show some of what is happening in say the States it does look extreme.
All I have been able to do is on a limited scale. Some stored food(tins, boxes and containers)bottled water, fruit juice, long life milk. Items that can be eaten cold and some general household goods but if things totally failed I probably would still be in trouble. You can only do so much. My store is mainly on money grounds.
This aired on Monday...

Just seen this forecast

End of time?
World to end?
There's a lot of different interpretations about what the Mayans actually said or implied.
And the claims range from simply end of the Mayan long count calendar, start of a new golden age to 'apocalypse now'.
Of course who's to say we won't get all three .
I would be inclined to poo poo it all - except that different cultures seem share the notion of 2012/2013 being the end of one era and the start of another.
There again, so many charlatans have jumped on the bandwagon - it's muddied the waters somewhat.
I think on balance I'm relaxed about the whole thing. But I admit that my antennae will be twitching just a teeny bit....0 -

Most people have already gone back to log fires, including us. The heating oil is just too much money and it seems about half of the heating oil companies have gone broke as no one is buying it at that price. I feel sorry for the ones in apartment blocks where the landlord will not pay for the shared heating.....some are sitting around a small electric fire in one room to keep warm.
Olive wood for the fire is 100 euros a ton here in the village and 130 in some towns and places further North. We try to make that last us for around four weeks and we use the electric blanket on the bed. In town they wanted 105 euros for a basic electric blanket so I got a super duper one for 44 pounds from Am ****. It's the best we have ever had.
We use calor gas for cooking so that saves us some money on the electric bill and we have a cg heater for if it gets really cold. The place we are going to is in Northern Greece so will be taking our thermals with us and lots of layers. We booked the ferry and got it cheap but don't know if they might strike suddenly so have tickets valid for 3 months. We have not booked a hotel yet as we don't want to get stuck with no ferry and lose the money. No worries, there are lots of hotels up there to choose from. I am also taking some gluten free bread and biscuits with me in case they do not have anything suitable for me to eat for breakfast.
Looking forward to it. Hope all goes well for everyone on 21st and that nothing untoward or unusual happens on that day (or any other for that matter).“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come.
