Just wanted to thank Lyn publicly for the extemely joyous and very very fun-filled convo we've just had on the phone; I think someone must've separated us at birth, such similar senses of humour are frightening. Hope it'll be the first of many chats with her - we were having an absolute scream.
I have decided to slaughter an FB pie for supper. I know it's tough, but someone has to eat the things.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Yes perhaps we should invest in gold instead!
Other than that I'm wondering if the prices of imports will go up due to a lower pound. If so it might make sense to 'invest' in a stock of things you use regularly that might be affected. When coffee last had a major price hike, I managed to save a good few quid by stocking up beforehand.0 -
GQ I've just sat here trying to work out what ingredients would be in a Facebook pie then realised you must mean fray bentos LOL and this from someone who doesn't even use Facebook or have an account.
Thanks for the good wishes re my application. Didn't realise how expensive the course would be especially as it involves working free for 12/15 hours a week so you cant really pull much paid employment in along side it. Got to wait for the actual interview now I've done my handing in application interview.SPC~12 ot 124

omg two spinning wheels in a car boot sale. Someone will have snapped them up, if not a spinner then someone who loves to refurbish wooden items. I refurbished my first wheel and boy was it satisfying. All good shtf stuff for when time seems endless and good for men too, a lot seem keen on wood. That leads me into my new hobby, which is now all engrossing. I carve wood and love it. I have been to some lessons and been to skill courses, learning how to use equipment in the garage, which is now my workshop. Scrollsaw, tool sharpening etc. I am usually the only female but as good as any man now, apart from heavy lifting
shtf prep should include learning how to do basic home maintenance jobs, at least for later in life when shtf can leave one single. I have installed solar lighting outside, successfully rendered a patch on my house and biggest of all, repaired and renovated a wooden retaining wall. A job that took about 150 hours and cost loads and meant fetching and lifting 62 bags of gravel up 12 steps (3 loads per bag) but will last for my lifetime because I cured the underlying problem. Shtf means learning how never to give in but to adapt and to learn because believe me shtf can strike fast and out of the blue0 -

I daren't start another stash building hobby
I have never been to a car boot. Well thats it, I am going but oh please give me the strength to avoid clutter0 -

GQ I'd been meaning to ask you what you were going to do about the FB pie stash now that you're low carbing.....can't waste them though, eh! Glad you and Lyn had a lovely chat
And Lyn I do hope we'll see you on the new thread soon. After all, however many pages a thread has, you can still only see one page at a time, so you'll soon forget it's a new thread, I'm sure.0 -

when investing in anything it is important to look at the risk/reward, gold is very volatile and if selling then there are costs which need to be factored in so gold can be a bad buy

I have to admit that I am still very actively trading stocks and shares in the sipp, which is now mine from dh. So far so good and I think I will be able to provide enough for my three to give them a comfortable old age. As always I am contrarian and have never lost my interest and am very stock market savvy. That is enough on that. Ftse 100 looks extremely strong and is adding to the feel good factor. Ftse 250 (smaller companies) is very much holding its own
