    :D Britspeak! Love it!!

To all concerned: I think if no one tried to boss anyone else around we could get back to having a fine time!
Remember when the SHTF we may need to deal with very different personalities and ways of thinking. Let's practice here.
    Kindness doesn't cost a thing.

p.s. I'm in the mountain time zone and am currently 6 hrs behind you. We have daylight savings time in NM so that will change in October.
Automatics are the norm here. We have such distances to drive you would think it would still be manuals because they get better gas mileage, but no we are a lazy nation who like big gas guzzlers ( I live in pickup land and am bordered by states on three sides who also drive lots of pickups) with speed control, GPS, air conditioning, satellite radio etc. We have two big pickups and a midsize SUV sitting out in our driveway. The MSE part is one of the pickups is 20 yrs old and the car I traded in was 17 yrs old. We drive em till the wheels fall off.
Overprepare, then go with the flow.

Thank you for the good wishes.
Having been told my thoughts and opinions are not welcome on the thread, I've been re-considering how I spend my time.
Frankly the fallout from the referendum has caused me substantial financial issues in that businesses are panicking and cancelling planned investments and developments.
Therefore I've decided to put my time and energy to better use, at least for the time being.

Maryb my apologies, I thought there was general agreement about moving to a new thread, there had been prior discussions about such as well as that particular discussion and several people had commented favourably about the title. I believe I'm the one who reminded you about both the idea and the title you'd proposed - and I did so, at least in part, hoping it might help resolve some of the acrimony that was evident both in the run up to the referendum and following the result.
It seems that was another forlorn hope, since it seems to be the cause of more acrimony.

I don't know when or if I will wander this way again, all I know is it no longer feels like home. There's people here that I'll miss and will always wish well.

Nuatha, I am very sorry to hear about the impact of the referendum on your work and hope that things settle down quickly so that you and your family can find a way through.

I am equally sorry that you have been told that your views and opinions are not welcome on this thread - like Mila, I find your posts the voice of reason and good judgement. The forum, and prepping threads in particular, will be much the poorer for your absence.

I find it particularly sad that, as someone who has helped others so much in the past, you do not feel able to post and receive support yourself at a time when it is so much needed.

This is an open forum and anyone can post on any subject they choose, or from any perspective, providing they observe the forum rules - which you clearly do. I fail to understand why any poster thinks they have the right to dictate the subject matter of any thread - they do not.

I wish you and your family well for the future.

    Morning all
Major news of the day is I'm applying to go back to college!!! Not major prepping in the grand scheme of things, I've always worked but part time since the kids were born. I fell into a job at the local school not long after the youngest started there (she's 30 this year!) and recently have found my hours increased but I've never really had the qualifications to officially apply for a job so now my baby is 16 I'm going for it. Hoping to not get shot down in flames and told I'm too old for such things this afternoon.

I'll let you know how I get on later. Have a good day all.

Wise words.. Just imagine if we were all holed up in a nuclear bunker together!
Well some of this seems to have gone over my head and I have no intention of re-reading stuff to see who said what to who and to pick a side. All I see are old friends falling out.
Many of us have stresses and things going on in our lives that perhaps others don't know about and that may be reflected in what you write or how you perceive what others have written. I'm on a support group for people with sick dogs. How uncontentious is that! But we even manage to have the odd spat there..:(
Those that needed to have a vent have vented including me. Is it time now to start afresh? Today is a new day - at least it is in the UK.

nuatha, I know I'm a fairly new comer to this board but I just have to say that your opinion on any subject is the one I always wait for and learn from. You have been so patient to explain things to me and educate me as questions arise or I occasionally misinterpret something. A true voice of reason and judgement!

Between your helping me navagate all things UK and GQ explaining the nuances of language and custom, I have felt very much like I'm getting a fine education.

I'm deeply hoping when things in business settle down you will post again!

Anyone saying your thoughts and opinions aren't welcome does not speak for me!!!!!!

    Hear hear :T

Going forward (my how I hate that phrase) the Peak Prosperity site and Chris Martenson are worth a read. It's from a US perspective but we'll forgive them that. :D
There is a mix of interesting preparedness stuff on there but sometimes the emotional/mental side is neglected. We are going through uncertain times and this oldish article might be helpful. The comments below are also worth a look.

Nuatha, I too would be lost without your calm common-sense and reasoned nuances! Please at least pop in & reassure us once in a while - on whichever thread!

As a household, we are also experiencing problems because of the political mess, but thanks to ALL the posters on this thread (on whichever "side") I am encouraging those of my family whose outlook has altered somewhat to look for new opportunities, even if alterations to the current arrangements seem like a setback.

And IMHO, that's the key to it all, prepping-wise. Sudden changes can come at us from any number of directions throughout life and this is a valuable lesson that hopefully, my kids will look back on & realise that it's just plain daft & lazy to take too much for granted.

Hoping this actually posts , still having to spend a lot of time trying to get online .
Nuatha I am sorry to read of your news and also the fact that you feel this is not a place for you now the brown stuff has landed at your door I do not think I have ever complained about anyones political views but if my posts have upset you or any others here I am so sorry . If anyone has misunderstood my comment that I do not really discuss politics in here may I explain that that is an active part of my life and I come here for the prepping as a way of dealing with the ever changing goalposts . I enjoy reading everyones views and do not feel offended myself . For now I understand you have greater concerns to occupy your time but I hope this is not goodbye I and so many others would miss you so much .
Warm wishes to you , herself and mum and may the Gods of good fortune shine and doors open for you .

I went back to Uni at 40 to do a masters and am now a PhD student - at 52!! i am not the oldest student there....

The great thing about the british education system is that it allows us to do this....

    Good luck
