Love this thread so much :j

Great info on kale and its brothers and sisters. Thank you all - especially Tired Trophy, for delurking - come in more often :)

As for my own preparedness right now, not much going on - just clearing and tidying, inside and out. I'm quite bored of saying that, but I don't want to just cut and run ... I'm working on vitamin intake, an mse-er got me onto a group on facebook that has a lot of detailed knowledge about D3 and K, but I'm kind of following along and not reading, as my brain won't take it in right now.

2023: the year I get to buy a car
  • WAS ME!!!!! but I did put the 'K' word in smaller case not capitals in deference to the Scottish member who isn't a fan!

Well the best laid plans of mice men and preppers oft gang agley as they say, we set off this morning to go to one of the country houses not far from here to see the acres of rhododendrons which will be in bloom and less than half a mile out of the village some idiot smashed the wing mirror on the car and sped off into the distance without a backward glance, I think we're very lucky it was no worse as he was travelling at quite a speed and had he been a few more inches into the middle of the road we'd have been a write off. We rang the local Skoda dealership where we got the car from and they said bring it over which we did, they'll have it in on Wednesday and it's going to be around £250 including labour.....horrendous, but it has to be fixed. So to make the morning not a complete wash out we drove down to Lee on the Solent for a walk and a nice coffee in the sunshine, just what we needed to settle after all the kerfuffle. I think life is quite capable of dealing some sharp shocks and that prepping makes more and more sense to me, despite the occasional attacks on here to the contrary!

Have you informed police? though it might turn out to be a waste of time, they might have said car on speed camera or CCTV.

Pleased it was only the wing mirror
  • No chance of a speed camera or CCTV this was on the road out of the village and just domestic housing around. Sad thing to have happened, I just hope he has as much damage to his car, but no more, the unforgiveable thing is he just kept driving at speed and didn't even check we were OK. Three inches further over the white line and we'd have been clobbered very hard indeed, don't want to think what might have been the result. So we're BOTH fine, and we've lost a wing mirror, small mercies for which I am extremely grateful!!!

    Glad you're well MLW - that's what's important.

    BUT.

I'd report it anyway - won't take long and it could save someone else's life.

There could be cameras in the village (sometimes they're hard to see on traffic lights).

Or he could be tracked through getting his own repairs done.

Failing to stop is a serious offence - not sure about all over the UK, but in Wales we take it very seriously.

    Either way. Be well.
That sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone and grovellings to Mardatha - though in my defense I did warn you to look away!!

Apparently prunes are good for encouraging new bone formation. I have not eaten prunes since the twice weekly torture at primary school and would very happily have lived the rest of my life without ever going near one again. It says something about how horribly that alendronic acid reacted with me that I am now seriously contemplating prunes as a mid morning nibble!

One brighter note - it seems that walking downstairs puts more beneficial stress on the bones than walking upstairs - so it's ok to take the lift!!
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

Dried prunes are a lot more palatable as a nibble than school dinner prunes (and they don't come with semolina glue).

Lift up, walk down, to immediately get the lift up and walk down, double the benefit :) And you get the lift and stairs to yourself, cos everyone assumes your crazy.

my DH had to take DD1 to work with him one year just before Christmas when all our childcare arrangements had fallen apart all at the same time. His office was in the basement of what had been a fairly grand London town house. She amused herself all day just by going up and down in the lift

Vitamin K is abundant in green tea, leafy greens, such as Swiss chard, kale, parsley and spinach, broccoli and cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, liver, soybean oil and wheat bran. Fermented dairy, including yogurt, cheeses, and fermented soy including miso and natto, provide K2, which is especially helpful in increasing bone density and reducing the risk of fractures. Those with osteoporosis or osteopenia should consider supplementing 50 to 100 mcg (micrograms) of K2, and eat foods rich in vitamin K.

Sorry to hear that. I think everyone should get a dashcam now they are so cheap. You'd probably have his number if you had one.
