Same thing happened to us recently MrsL, on a wee empty country road round a tight bend but our mirror was only knocked.
I think yer all mad. If Gawd had meant us to eat leaves he'd have made us all giraffes.
I do buy kkkkk- the green stuff - and I kill it by ripping it to bits then drowning it in soup. The only good kale is a dead kale MUHAHAHA

Channeling my inner Mistress Weatherwax usually works for me; when the going gets tough the tough deal with it :) Though there are times when I think Queen Ynci's armour should be an essential for all peppers.

But I'm very sorry that the mirror was so badly damaged MrsLurcher Walker, and that you're so much out of pocket because of it. Sadly a sense of personal responsibility seems to have deserted too many people today.
Fermented dairy, including yogurt, cheeses, and fermented soy including miso and natto, provide K2, which is especially helpful in increasing bone density and reducing the risk of fractures. Those with osteoporosis or osteopenia should consider supplementing 50 to 100 mcg (micrograms) of K2, and eat foods rich in vitamin K.
I didn't know this at all. Thanks Milasavesmoney. I love miso soup. Would tofu be included in this? I imagine it would as its fermented bean curd. Unfortunately I don't love tofu :( though I'm persevering with it because it's a low fat source of protein.
Pity soya beans don't grow well here in the UK. Lots of kale on our plots though this year, and were trying flowering Brussels this year to use in stir fries.
  • In the old days, as a kind friend pointed out we'd have been able to go to a scrap yard and get a replacement for a few pounds, sadly those geniuses who design and manufacture modern cars are of the opinion that we have lost the ability to open the car window and adjust the mirror with our hands and thus have invented the electronic, de mister, tweak me where you want me from inside the car mirror, no doubt a vast improvement on the use of the hand but sadly SOOOOOOOOO much more expensive to repair when it goes wrong!.....I believe it's understood to be progress???

Ages ago I stir fried the dreaded K word with apple and onion in a little veg stock and herbs and everyone loved it.

I love that I am not the only one getting inspiration from granny weatherwax although I laughed at Nanny Ogg's way of getting housework done( her DILs vied with each other to leave the place spotless and cook her meals.) I loved it when Magrat became "a warrior queen" and fought the lords and ladies.

MrsLW, you are just as much of an inspiration as Granny Weatherwax & Nanny Ogg! Not many people would have the fortitude to realise what a lucky escape they'd just had.

Just digesting this story. It's very true... there've been times at night when I've rung 999 to report trouble brewing in our location, and been put through to headquarters 25 miles away, to be told there's no-one available within 20 miles... we're only just outside the city boundaries, but come under the "rural" heading. I happen to know of a fairly major terrorist incident, quite some time ago, that took place at a weekend, where the senior officer on the ground was an unarmed sergeant, who luckily had some real-life experience of these things to draw on. But in a small rural force, there being someone present, or at least close by, with experience and/or relevant training can't be taken for granted, and things can go from bad to worse very quickly. By & large we all of us live in pretty safe parts of the world, but it's as well not to take too much for granted...

When I had my trip to A&E curtosy of the NHS ambulance service a few weeks ago the paramedic was telling me that he had assisted a chap who had a collision in his car. He was adamant he could not move because of the pain. Extra crew called to cut off the roof of his car to enable safe extraction. When the man realised this he did not want the roof cut off his prized car he proceeded to get out of the car unaided.

How much time and resources were wrapped up in helping someone, and I judge and assume unashamedly, go through the motions in order to make a personal injury claim?

Lurking here. Hi Fuddle, I was at our A&E as I slipped on a wet floor and cracked my head. OH insisted I go. Whilst waiting I was shocked to hear of a child brought in with a blocked nose, the nurse advised that because of her having a normal temperature she would be fine and the parent then demanding antibiotics.?? I was then examined and assured that I did the right thing. Leaving I was passed a card with details on in case I experienced problems in the night. On the reverse was an injury lawyer advert. I think that is shocking on a NHS card. Is this usual?
  • One definite to add to the preppers food store list is the packets of Lebanese style falafel mix made by Al'fez and at about £1 in the world food sections at supermarkets. You just add water then leave it to stand for a few minutes form it into little flat cakes and fry it for around a minute each side in some oil. I made 16 from my packet and 4 is a goodly helping for an adult. I made lemon and coriander cous cous to go with it, dry coriander leaf from stores and lemon juice from a bottle and more water and a 5 minute soak and tahini sauce which is tahini from a jar, crushed garlic (I've used garlic from a jar before and it was fine) lemon juice from a bottle and water. Seasoning of salt and pepper for both produced a supper in minutes that has filled us up and been delicious. A very useful product!

Here's a nice page on Vit K Capella, showing some beans and herbs that have more K than a block of tofu. Soy beans are one of our main crops (US) but they are mainly GMO's. I've been trying to read about why we shouldn't eat GMO plants for health reasons and there does not seem to be much scientific evidence proving health related problems are caused by doing so. I may be looking in the wrong place, as I'm just doing internet searches.
Overprepare, then go with the flow.
