He doesn't need any encouragement and I like to humour the old feller, gives him an interest in life.:rotfl:

Many a fine tune played on an old fiddle, as the saying has it. I, myself, am more an old bird than a chick.
Cheer up, BB, it's all good clean fun. Or it will be when I pack my maid marian costume and drive up to your flat on friday night........:DEvery increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I read along but don't often comment. I would like to prep more but the past few years have been a struggle so laying out extra money hasn't been an option for me.
However I must say I felt right at home during the 'hammer' debate. I have two sledge hammers (DS1's favourite toys) and two lump hammers, one of which belonged to my grandfather who died in the 1960s. I also have his bolster chisel which is home made. Two summers ago I was worried about sharing a bed with two crowbars amongst other things (attic stairs were being repaired and all the treads and the handrail were in various locations in my bedroom - having tools alongside me was preferable to tripping over them in the middle of the night). My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.NST SEP No 1 No Debt No mortgage0 -

Keyboard!!Flippin' heck, that made me laugh and now I've spilled my tea.
And I spat mine all over my keyboard and screen. That hasn't happened in a long time.
We're in a bad way when we're wasting tea.Picture this:
Back in the DWP Office, a few months further into the near future. We are now behind the scenes.
An Official: (incredulously) What?!
A Manager; It's true, the DoleCards have all had the new software applied. Of course, no one bothers to tell us in advance, do they? There'll be hell to pay. I'd put an extra security guard on the main floor but I can't justify the expenditure to the Department. Look out for yourself out there, OK?
(I was helping her complete a job application and arranging some refresher training, so she could apply for a job earning £12K less per year, in the hope of being able to sleep at night.)
ETA; nuatha, now I remember, I bought the carrots in Tosspots and the avos in Liddly. The gin I got at Sainsbugs and the ciggies off that bloke off the market (the neighbours see me all right for Class B droogs, of course; one should always shop locally, don'tcha think?!)
Next time don't wear the green jacket, its a bit of a give away.
(And since you like Tanqueray you might find the Blue Sapphire or the Hendricks to your taste)0 -
Now Now, puhleese!!
Puzzled by the troll situation - must have been quite vicious as one can usually work out what has been happening by the posts responding to the deleted post. Can't do that this time. Good to know that MSE Towers are not letting them get past them.
Anyhoo
Mardatha look away now - we are talking leafy green veg (beginning with K)!!
Foolishly when I spoke to my GP I didn't get my T and Z scores for my recent DEXA scan. I heard the words 'osteoporosis in my spine' and dutifully picked up a prescription for Alendronic Acid ( the generic form of Fosamax)
You take it once a week.
One day later my back seemed a bit more painful. Three days later it was as if I had been knocked back six weeks to just after I had fractured a vertebra. Plus I had a huge IBS flare-up
Then I had another look at the (long) list of side effects - muscular-skeletal pain, often significant - tick!! abdominal pain etc etc - tick!
Then I read the rest of the side effects with renewed attention. And did some googling
I don't think I want to take this drug. But I don't want to be incapacitated either especially if healthcare is going to be harder to come by in the future. This is a prepper issue!! I want to try and deal with it through diet and exercise at least to see if I can make a difference
My hip bone density is within normal limits (largely because I walk so much, I suspect) But it's a bit harder to build/maintain bone density in one's spine (although some excess adipose tissue has to be weightbearing, surely)? Grey Queen suggested a rebounder which sounds promising (though after two children I might have to put in a bulk order for Tena Lady, lol)
But the fact that my hip is normal gives me confidence that I can manage this without taking a drug that might give me "fossy jaw"
One of the most important things seems to be ensuring an adequate supply of Vitamin K, magnesium and boron. Calcium on its own is not enough ( and should ideally be calcium citrate not calcium carbonate aka powdered chalk from what I can see).. Vitamin D3 also matters but I get enough of that.
So any suggestions welcome for including lots of leafy green veg in my diet please. Kale is one of the best but it's mainly a winter veg. What can I do at this time of year other than eating lots of lettuce? And a particular plea to the gardeners - what should I be sowing now on the allotment to give me a good source of leafy green veg in the next few months?
Disclaimer - I'm not asking for medical advice (which I know is against the rules) - I will go back to my GP and set out my reasons why I don't think this is right for me and I am prepared to be persuaded otherwise. But even then I am sure diet is still importantIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0
