Thanks Nuatha. It sounds like they deliberately let some bombers through, so that the Germans wouldn't cotton on that we had the radar? That's quite shocking by today's standards, isn't it?

I've just been reading about how the Germans pinpointed their bombing raids over English cities despite them being completely blacked out.

    Those crafty Jerries, eh?
  • The way I regard prepping is IF I'm right and there might come a time when 'normal life' is disrupted for any of a whole plethora of reasons I have invested in things that will keep us going until it's either sorted out and life IS back to normal again or if it's not back to normal I have things which will hopefully keep us alive while we adjust to whatever life has become , IF I'm wrong I will have a stock of things like food, first aid medications, candles, salt, soap etc. all of which we use anyway that I will use up in the day to day process of living even if it takes a while to get through them.

If those who scornfully mock us are right we'll have things we can use up that we'd normally use BUT.....IF they're wrong and life does run awry for any of those plethora of reasons and life as normal becomes impossible they'll have nothing, will have to get through problem times with nothing and IF life doesn't get back to normal they'll have a pretty hard old time of it IF they make it through at all!

Its long been believed that Churchill let the bombing of Coventry happen, as preventing it would have revealed they'd cracked Enigma.
War is terrible but its also a pressure cooked that forces the development of new ideas and innovative applications of old ones.

I suspect that governments are no more sane or friendly now than they've ever been. But I equally suspect that hindsight is a very good at filling in the "obvious" blanks in intelligence. I sincerely doubt that any government would have allowed 9/11 or 7/7 happen if they'd had advance warning not matter what some conspiracy theorists allege was adequate advance knowledge.

You missed the last step - Die of heat exhaustion.

When dehydrated it's important to replenish more than just water - you may find this helpful:
When you're dehydrated, you lose sugar and salts, as well as water. Drinking a rehydration solution will enable you to re-establish the right balance of body fluids. The solution should contain a mixture of potassium and sodium salts, as well as glucose or starch...

The best way to treat dehydration is to rehydrate the body by drinking plenty of fluids, such as water, diluted squash or diluted fruit juice.

A sweet drink can help to replace lost sugar, and a salty snack can help to replace lost salt.

That sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.

I fully agree with you Lyn.
My experience is that things will go wrong and having a decently stocked pantry has proved invaluable several times.
I spend time learning skills which interest me, they may not be to everybody's taste but I'm not everybody. I don't care how most people live their life providing it doesn't impinge on mine and I'd rather they didn't care about mine.
What I do object to is the idea that my investing in my future should be used to bail out someone who decided to invest in something else entirely. (That sports car and foreign holidays you bought will hardly feed you, so why should I who didn't buy the sports car or the holidays but bought food and storage instead).
  • I'm a great believer in being 'grey' and inconspicuous, that means you're not really on the radar for most of mankind to notice you. I keep our ideas and preparations hidden and will continue to do so. We live a good life but by 'our' standards and the people we live amongst regard us with good humoured tolerance whilst feeling that we are definitely 'alternative' a little bit odd and a bit ageing hippy! I'm happy to 'bumble' but I know where things grow, where there is clean water, where medicinal herbs can be found and how to use them, etc. I like to think we'd be useful by way of skills to share rather than supplying those who have lived life in the fast lane with material goods. That much I don't mind parting with!

Drat. I always miss the good bits! Hope you disposed of the troll neatly and buried the carcass clear of the water supply...
They bombed Clydebank and wiped out 3 whole streets- my mum had relatives in one of them. Not many survived from those streets.

    Compost is always useful ;)

Dh's grandma who lived near Middlesborough complained bitterly when they bombed her outside loo. Just lucky no one was in it at the time!
