Newshadow - If kitchen layout and the washing machine were the landlords doing I would be contacting him pronto . Do you have the appliance instructions handy ? Sometimes it gives advice on opening the door . I am trying to visualise why you can't get the door open , is this the first time of use ? Can't really suggest anything useful except landlord . With a bit of luck JKO may be along as he may have seen similar . Good luck

NewShadow - The door of mine opens if I switch it off at the machine, pull the plug out and leave it for half an hour , I think the door mechanism resets? The downside is that it then floods the kitchen floor:mad:If it's full off water can you drain it through the filter? It might open then. Otherwise I'm baffled. Last time it happened here I had to get an engineer out. Can you do that and bill your landlord?
    I'm sorry I can't be more helpful X

There may be something here that might help? It was useful when ours broke down once, and we'd lost the manual.

What's happened, has it broken down mid-wash and the door won't open or has something else gone wrong?

Yes... Each sequentially over the last year.

This time it's spun and drained but I've broken the !!!!!!!' handle because it sometimes just doesn't unlock...

He will (and has previously) taken a week to get his plumber mate to come look at it. It will be repaired, my rotten clothes thrown away, then 3 months later kaputski!

Thanks Polly - The machine is a zanussi aquaglide 1050 - roughly from the 70's?

I have a copy of the manual, (but don't think it'll help much with a physically broken handle)

The reason the door won't open is that it's a run down piece of poo that I'm going to just scrap and replace. :D

    Very helpful Cap.

Unfortunately I can't get at the switch (behind the fitted units) so I'm going to try flipping the mains for half an hour.

This has been ongoing since I decided to get the laundry out before by (much delayed) walk - at 10am.

I really hope flipping the switch does the trick , a good on line vent can get all the frustration out . Fuming you are missing your walk , the man sounds a complete waste of space - some of my karma vibes heading in his direction . In your place I think I would risk a lottery lucky dip today and pray for a miracle win so you can tell him to stick his rubbish machine where the sun don't shine :D

Just going to buy a new one.

Less stress all round (plus I did really appreciate, when there was a leak this winter, it wasn't me that was scrambling around on the roof sorting out loose tiles)

Recommendations welcome - A++ rating a must as must installation services.

Recycling the old one not such an issue as I've a mate that works in a scrapyard.

I've just made a cuppa and a pot of proper coffee.

I'll lose the router, so hope to be back in c. an hour with good news...

Or I'll just take an axe to the door...

    Nope. Nada. Nothing.

    Okay.

Replacement is being delivered on the 15th May (earliest I could do given I'm away Tuesday to Friday this week - which is why I wanted clean knickers!)

Moving on for ways to get my stuff out in the meantime.

New shadow I have a Bosch Vario Perfect WAQ28350GB which will be 2 yrs old next month . When I bought it the model was being replaced with a newer version so I got it at a good price from JL . I paid the extra 3 yrs cover so I am covered for 5 years , eldest daughter has the same and the only thing we noticed was the spin is less effective than our previous Hotpoints . This can be overcome by using the rinse programme when the wash is over and switching off the Aqua Plus button which gives an extra spin and does the job .
Two other offspring both have Zanussi one a couple of years older than the other , they haven't had any problems and both had a 5 year manufacturers guarantee . The washes take longer than mine but the spin is better.
For decades my machine of choice was Hotpoint but having had a big larder fridge that froze my food on a regular basis ! and finding my dryer was one of those affected by the fire risk and washing machines recently also catching fire I will never by that brand or the brand names owned by the company again . They used to be a trusted company but my own experience of so called customer service and repairs suggests that ship has sailed .
My kitchen will shortly be renovated after waiting many years and I will be having all my sockets made accessable as it has always been a concern of mine that I cannot switch off and unplug in an emergency as everything is heavy and in front of just above skirting level sockets .
Hope you rescue the undies . i am sure others will be along with their machine choices .

Trying to clarify . Is the machine the property of the landlord ?
Is the handle completely missing now or partially ?
I now realise it is intergrated , does it have a bottom plinth to match the units which could give access to drain the water ?
Sorry for the questions , you must be so fed up with the whole scenario . Just don't want you going away knickerless :)
