In times to come someone may appreciate a fix for the difficult to google dilemma

It reinforces my heartfelt belief - every issue can be fixed by the proper application of one of the following:
    1. tea
    2. gaffa tape
    3. fire
    4. a sufficiently large hammer
That sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.

Newshadow - If kitchen layout and the washing machine were the landlords doing I would be contacting him pronto . Do you have the appliance instructions handy ? Sometimes it gives advice on opening the door . I am trying to visualise why you can't get the door open , is this the first time of use ? Can't really suggest anything useful except landlord . With a bit of luck JKO may be along as he may have seen similar . Good luck

Sounds like I'm too late. :) This little story might make you guys chuckle though: http://www.landlordzone.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?70746

It turned out my tenant had put it on the wrong programme, then turned the dial without cancelling the old programme. (Of course, she never mentioned that. :( )

With Miele machines, you need to remove the powder drawer, then pull the lever that is revealed.

I have an awful feeling I will regret asking but is anyone else wondering about the origin of the word used by BB ?
Bob If it's fit for the ladies and wont frighten the horses I for one would like to know . However if it is neither of the above either don't tell or give us a read at your peril sign !!!

:pnuatha, I never even saw rocks IRL until I started to go north and west on holidays as a teenager, some parts of the country are pretty parched for rocks. I still find streams with the water rippling through rocks quite fascinating.

Like Tiffany A, I'm on chalk. With flints, but most of those aren't big enough to thump a fence post with. And some of those have already been walloped into smithereens by the early neolithic farmers whose land is now my allotment site.

No programmes half completed, no quick release mechanisms, no real mystery beyond it being 30 years old.

I don't think the LL (who is generally lovely) will object to me leaving in a few years with a new(ish) machine in place.

I'm just really sick of the constant (honest 4 times in 18 months) repairs and know he'd insist on just repairing it again.

GQ I somehow envy people on chalk all the little fossils etc . If it's good enough for Tiffany your in good company . Was Terrys birthday recently I always picture him striding through DW with hat , sword and every cat he ever owned or in some cases owned him .

Nuatha Just noticed your comment re the spade . My " best " spade and garden fork are S&J from the time they started the stainless steel ranges , they were still the owners back then and sold durable good quality . Many of my best Victor Meldrew rants feature the death of real British manufacturing and reliabiliy and the rise of short life rubbish .

I keep forgetting you live on the bones of the sea, I'm so used to living on the bones of the earth, that the idea of an allotment that doesn't have stones ranging from pebbles, to decent to boulders is foreign to me.
Despite being what I've grown up with I still find water rippling through rocks fascinating. (and beaches that don't have sand weird)
