:( I'm Unison member myself but not overly impressed with their performance in my workplace. Can't be specific (RL identifier) but it's been pretty naff in the past few years. I also happen to think outsourcing is the work of the devil.

My Nan has home carers, paid for privately not LA supplied, and her home care company is pulling out of her (very rural) area. She knows where her favourite carers are going to be working from and had 'followed' them to the rival private company. They're apparently pleased because they'll be getting a bit more money and better t & c and she wants to keep on with the individuals she knows and likes.
Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

ive heard rumours that my local labour council is refusing to allow their employees who are unison stewards /helpers to support unison members like me ..who have been outsourced to and are cooperative type care agency because we are no longer public employees.......no mention of this when convincing us to move over last year....how could a labour council be so petty as to interfere with union representation.....does Jeremy know? they maybe trying it on, and may not happen but surprising.....what do you think GQ as our public service guru

If the council employs what are effectively union conveners, full or part-time council employees who are seconded to Unison to look after the welfare of council employees who are Unison members, then it seems fair that they won't be paid by the council to look after Unison members who are no longer council employees.
I would expect that you'd no longer be part of the same branch structure (and that a proportion of branch funds would have moved with the members to a new branch) but would have new branch officers as well as access to full-time Unison officials for representation.
There are many downsides to outsourcing, your new employer may not even have a Recognition Agreement (the basis of nearly all workplace union representation).

The labour council aren't interfering with union representation, they aren't providing a service to ex-employees, in the same way that they no longer provide wages or canteen facilities.

Sorry not to have been more positive.

    It's probably for legal reasons.

    Secondary picketing is illegal.

Everyone got their popcorn ready for the budget?
That sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.

  • Whilst keeping the house warm for free with all the 'hot air' being generated on the TV?
  • I don't have a TV, to throw things at. :)

    Getting sick of this weather.

These last two nights, the sky was clear when I went to bed.

These last two mornings, I've woken early, to do some ISS spotting, only to find the sky covered in clouds. :(
