  • No...no....no...no...no:eek:. That would give the nationalists a field day....

Not a happy picture either for all those of us who have moved elsewhere in Britain - that might find we had inadvertently moved to another country iyswim (when we thought we had just moved to another area of the same country). I know nuatha will disagree with me on that one.....LOL. Almost like moving to Spain and finding one had woken up in France in effect...

Wales is half way there anyway, as we have the welsh assembly which runs certain things in Wales..and has certain powers..

Wales were waiting with the interest what the outcome of the Scottish referendum , it still be on the cards for us in the future , and I think maybe Scotland will not rule out another vote in the future ..

:) I'm really looking forward to voting to exit the EU.

I think the refuseniks will win by a sliver of a majority, there will be lots of recounts and wailing and gnashing of teeth. And Camermoron will be ousted in a palace coup and B0ris will pedal off to Westminster.

Big business and banking are lining up to lobby to stay in. Which makes me smile as they employ relatively few people on peanuts in most cases, and what's good for them doesn't seem to be good for Jo(e) Soap.

I get very impatient with an European Union which wants to extend a pan-European superstate across the Black Sea into Turkey and also into Ukraine. Very wise, with Turkey sharing a land border with Iran, which shares its borders with Afghanistan and Pakistan. All well-known as places of political stability, social decency and democratic values - not.

And stirring the pot by inviting the Baltic States into the EU and Nato (can't blame 'em for joining) so that the Russian Bear gets a sore tooth, and that's even before meddling so 'successfully' in Ukraine.

 Hey, why not just roll the EU out over the 'Stans and butt up to China and see how that flies. The EU is seriously above itself and playing very dangerous geo-political games and I don't want to be a part of it.

... or the number of farms/farmers (which is kept artificially high by the perverse incentives of the subsidies) will naturally reach an economically sustainable level?

    Define economically sustainable :).

Importing huge amounts of vegetables from Kenya isn't environmentally sustainable (and won't remain economic much longer). We want cheap food, so we have a system that keeps farmgate prices artificially low, when it costs more to produce a pint od milk than a farmer can sell it for there's a major problem. Farmers going out of business means far more reliance on imports, therefore prices will go up.

:) We presently have an insane situation where the export of some acgricultural commodities is matched, almost to the tonne, with the import of the same agricultural commodities. Crazy.

And you can buy New Zealand lamb more easily in the UK than the stuff being fattened on our own pastures.

There have been very many trading agreements across countries throughout the centuries, long before the EU was a twinkle in a bureacrat's eye. What do people think the EU is going to do to the UK if we leave? Blockade our ports and close our airspace?

Hell, we might end up as impoverished as some European but non- EU countries. Like Switzerland and Norway...........:rotfl:

Pass the T0blerones and wind up that cuckoo clock.

And we have some farmers who game the system by deciding how many extra livestock are they going to buy at the start of the new year to maximise the grant they'll receive for 'destroying' the uneconomic to produce produce.

I've met a lot more farmers with brand new range rovers than I have with dirt under their nails...
That sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.
