Sugar, candles, salt, loo rolls, flour, coal, tinned foods, in terms of everyday needs but I would think if you could afford to shoes, a good coat, undies, a spare pair of wellingtons, seeds to grow in the garden, something good and waterproof to wear, hats, gloves, scarves, socks, tools, books on 'how to', soap, and many other things would be a sound investment in the uncertain future.0

All the stuff that most of us on here keep in. What a head start we've got.
Brings me back to previous question. Linens and random items like shoe polish? Bit worried about moving from good store into hoarding territory:rotfl:
DAZ - have you got better storage in your new kitchen?
Nuatha - hope all ok with MIL
CTC - can only echo what others have put. Maybe just get across that it would be useful to get "stamp" paid.
1Tonsil - give a wave if you ok and if you're not tell us
Sorry must have missed other things as well. Been a bit stressy for the past couple of weeks.
Brother's had his little de-fibrilator implant thingy put in.
Mum's had a pacemaker implant.
Dad's in hospital for[STRIKE] atherosc[/STRIKE][STRIKE]atherisc[/STRIKE].... something to do with his blood vessels in legs
Thank goodness for the NHS
Makes my little set of plates and pins look like small potatoes :rotfl: (Still not above feeling sorry for myself though!)
Lovely birthday party for youngest grandson last weekend and ouryoungest son will be sixteen in a couple of weeks.
If anything did come of the sabre rattling, I would like to have all my family in the same house. I like the idea of multi-generational living as long as there is good space.
On a positive note, holiday booked for next year. All of us together:D I am getting my WOOHOO! backNot dim.....just living in soft focus

Things to mend things you've already got would be a useful investment too, and I guess most of us would have them anyway but nails, screws etc. a comprehensive sewing kit with elastic, poppers, buttons etc. puncture repair kit for bike tyres and possibly wellington punctures too, various glues, clamps, sandpaper of different grades, I'm sure the more craft/handyperson amongst us can come up with a bigger list of usefuls, but things in that category across the board.0

WD40 ( or similar) and ' gaffa' tape. Are a must in any prep kit...
I have managed to downgrade our family successfully to the bog basic loo rolls the 9/12 pack for £1.95 ish..and it lasts too not like some of the other cheapi stuff .
Mardatha that book sounds fab, it might be worth discussing,/ looking into what was rationed, could not get hold of, and basically work out in a war sinario what would be hard to get hold off, would rise in price to silly prices, or would not be available,
This situation re- Russia/ Syria.. Brings back the discussion and thoughts we had about the gas that Russia supplies to Europe .. Russia will not lose out if they stopped support!ying us, as it signed a deal with China..to supply them with gas in the next few yearsWork to live= not live to work0 -
Might also be worth thinking about what might be rationed and seeing what was in the last war to think about how you'd manage? Not just food either but things like soap, cleaning things like vim were rationed in WW2, coal, petrol, food for chickens lots to consider and work out how to cope.0

In that case also invest in mousie traps, rat traps, a decent mousing cat and a jack russell!!!0

I was setting an old style rat trap in an outbuilding and wearing latex gloves because I had had it baited but unset previously and ratty would have been all over it. Anyhow pineapple didn't have the gloves on properly - leaving some empty finger ends dangling. Trap went off unexpectedly taking those finger ends clean off.
Fingerless latex gloves - the new fashion.0 -
