One thing I've never thought I was MrsL - is a loser..
Alternative/weird/odd/mad - yes. Loser - no.
What other people think of us is none of our business, it's theirs. I mind my own .0 -
As it should be my friend, know your own worth, know your own strengths and let the world think what it wants of any one of us, we each know the truth!0

Here we go - get ready for WWI all over again :mad:0 -
I've never thought I was a loser, only a determined fighter but I sometimes don't know my own worth.
Truth be told it's scary to have everything dependant on DH's job. Everything works because of that and given the niche he is in depends heavily on construction... I live my life in fear of it all happening again, only this time miles away from family and in an area that is so expensive to live in. Our choice. We're making it and life is really nice but if and when is always there.
I'm scared and no amount of physical preps are going to ease that. So no, age doesn't at all allow me peace of mind. This is the life I lead, my experiences are out of choices I made when I was very young and the consequences smacked me in the face when I was just starting out. I can only see it getting worse as I age.
To pick up on the point that benefits won't cover insurance and it felt that this was unacceptable - in my opinion insurances are there to give some sort of piece of mind. In my experience the struggling can't afford piece of mind. It's not a given in my mind... for me insurance is bought and only the able can tap into that. I don't agree that benefit money should stretch to cover insurances.0 -
Which raises the very first question - being "Do we actually have any troops left?" before we get into the rights/wrongs or affordability (that's easy = we cant afford it), etc.
By now - with all this stuff going on, does anyone else think "If the Illogicals (as I call them) in the Human Race seem to be so determined to have some major conflict/somewhere/some time that involves us - why don't they just belt us one right now and we can all stop worrying about the rest of our expected lifespan".
I know I tend to feel all this "wars and threat of wars" stuff has been so prolonged that I'd almost say "Where's the dotted line to sign on and forget my expected 20 years to come?" as I'm so fed-up with all this.

Have you considered setting up a company to buy the freehold but structure it in such a way that even if they cannot afford to buy their share now it can be bought at cost at a later date when they are able to afford it. Also mention it would effectively reduce the risks of rent increases for new roofs. Though you probably should set up a sinking fund for maintenance. Housing benefits do not cover one off costs but will for regular sinking funds. If you structure it so that it does not cost them now or penalise them later then they might give you votes to buy the freehold. Also mention that if they leave it too long the freehold will become too expensive to buy and they or more likely their descendants will have to buy their flats back at full price.
Thanks. I'll discuss this idea with my solicitor.0 -
I know China is having an effect on the recycling market here.
Alot of our recyclete is exported to China for recycling, especially metal, cardboard etc.. The scrap metal market has majorly slumped with prices for general going from approx £150 a ton right down to £30-40 a ton.. They are also struggling to fing buyers for cardboard etc..
Same as the secondhand textile market is saturated because of these cash clothes vans, alot are fly by nights, and have ruined the industry... There is a huge glut of low grade clothes on the market, and the main buyers are not buying.. Or if they are the price is dropping like a lead balloon...
This will have a knock on effect also for the councils as they will find it harder and harder to reach the EU recycling targets...but then again councils, po!iticians are good at manipulating figures to suit...Work to live= not live to work0 -

2. Wonder if there is a legal obligation on these freeholders to be sure that the address they are using for sending stuff to people is the correct one? I would have thought there would be.
3. If they claim to have obtained other quotes - then do you have the legal right to see these other quotes (ie as well as the moral right to do so)? Personally - I would be asking for sight of these other quotes - so I could form my own views on the competitiveness (or otherwise) of the one they have decided to use.
Thanks MITSTM.
I expect these beggars will take another four year contract with someone after this, now they've found out how profitable it is.
You're quite right, I could certainly go to the FTT and contest my own bill due to not receiving the notices. However, I don't know if this would help my fellow lessees, as of course they will have received the notices, but not realised their implications. Ideally, I'd like to find a way to help all of us.
Regarding the other quotes, they asked for nominations for other builders, but seem not to have received any, or if there were any, not to have quotes from those firms. (Sounds very convenient, doesn't it?)0 -
Sabre rattling, politicians have always been good at sabre rattling and the cry of 'Send a gun boat!', it's political muscle flexing and a very BIG game of 'DARE' to see who will blink first. No one can predict the outcome but playing at playground gangs and sending more of 'our side' into the Balkan states because the other gang won't play by the rules you have set for yours in Syria is NOT an adult response is it?0
