MrsLW oddly warm here too! doors wide open and no woollie jumpers on here, somethings afoot. We are being lulled into a false sense of security -expect deep snow tomorrow.

Just been to Mr A for catfood and as its a tiny shop OH walked round with me - he was shocked at the prices since we last went in a sm. We have been doing most of our shopping in the local market as we have stocks of basics so we havent been properly in a sm for 3 weeks.

Caterina outdoors in this weather?? Have you dried off yet? So pleased to hear your driving is going so well too well done (I still haven't been out yet :o:o)

My boys are reasonable cooks albeit typical men and leave it to mum types lol but I enjoy it so it works well, they can step in if needed.

I agree with teaching them young mine used to sit on the counter and cut cookies lol they dabbled with sewing too so can use a machine and stitch by hand.

DS3 has made an impressive loaf and needs a shower now :rotfl:I bought him a proper chefs apron and cap last chrimbo but it doesn't stop him flouring himself more than the bread!
He has fun though and as he's not eaten much this week it's good to see him keen again.

I tell you what is nice as well when we make pizza I put a shake of Schwartz's red pepper, mint and olive salad shake in the base,it's luvverly!
I can't remember when I last bought a pizza I've been making them for years thats one thing the boys won't eat when its shopbought, occassionally they will have a takeaway one but only from a certain shop..*fussy wotsits* lol

I was lucky, it did not start raining until after the class, but the field was so muddy that I had to put the mat in the washing machine (will use it for yoga - indoors - on Thursday). Having said that, silly me, Wednesday comes before Thursday and Weds is another outdoor bootcamp. Silly silly me. Ah well, the yoga crowd will have to put up with a muddy yogini among them :rotfl:It could be worse, I used to do it outdoors and IN THE NIGHT - 7:30 pm start. Honestly, I no longer have it in me, so changed to the morning sessions, and DH kindly gave me his night session, saying that he is now 61 and also needs his comforts. He does martial arts (indoors) twice a week for 3 hours, so not your typical frail old man - all the better to fight the zombies!

Re. food, DS is cooking tonight YEAH! As we have a guest from Italy, my friend's DD, who has come to London to spend her birthday with some friends. So I asked DS to help, he is friends with her too, and he will make his nice vege mince tomato sauce. I have bought a cake, so all I shall need to do is knock together a salad. It is good to teach them young, then they can be helpful when they grow up (with some luck!).
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
  • I saw that  what a disgrace. How can the police mistake a white stick for a samurai sword , the officers involved should have their eyes tested  The police should not be allowed to carry these weapons, they are too quick to use them.
I read last year or the beginning of this that they had tasered and 83 year old woman as well, what if the poor man had a bad heart and had died. An apology is not good enough. I would sue them for as much as I could .

It's difficult - of course it was terrifying for the poor man, and I'd bet actually the police officer who tasered him, feels awful about it. But, they'd had reports that someone was walking about with a samuri sword, and of course they have to follow that up. What would the police have done if they hadn't got tasers? I dunno :( but they had to do something with the report.

    http://www.channel5.com/shows/how-to-survive-a-disaster-movie

I watched the first one and it was quite funny its a pair of comedians doing a mythbusters on disaster movies..plenty of clips of films too :D

Noo I have my popcorn at the ready for this evening

and don't forget Cockneys Vs Zombies is out monday I have it pre-ordered so it should be here on the day whoop!

My first aid kits finally arrived yesterday *very slow* BUT well worth the £3 purchase price extremely pleased with them

I got 2 of the little first aid kits - haven't examined them yet as I plan 1 for DS1's birthday present so they are concealed for now... I also got a bigger kit to keep in the house, pleased with them, though I want to add some steri strips.
  • Hello all

Hope everyone is well (or at least better?). ((((HUGS)))) to those that need them.

I forgot to say I have done some Xmas preps too, got choc's (well they are a priority!), Xmas pud, pickles (sadly not home-made), more choc's, brandy sauce. Bird on order at the local farm - they told me they are fattening the turkey up nicely.... But glad I don't have to do the butchering myself...

So, it will only need the last minute fresh veggies, however bought some Xmas booze which OH has been 'testing', and need to buy more...! Must hide it better....

Having parents and neighbour, OH & self, and dog too this year. Only small and quiet, usual stuffing ourselves, and then try and stay awake for afternoon films, before grazing on cold meats, pickles and cheese (if we have any room left).

Going to try roasting real chestnuts on real fire this year and really looking forward to it!

On daily prepping, learned lesson 2 from DM. On chatting about stocking up, she said she'd bought oats on offer, but, threw them out as they got claggy. (Terrible waste!) So, I am now careful about what to buy and where to store it. I.E. not in a cramped cupboard against a damp, north facing wall as mum did! So, lesson one, keep your stuff vermin proofed, lesson two, keep it in the right conditions (temperature, humidity). From that, lesson three: don't leave your stash too long, check it, and date rotate it! Mum had left her oats 'festering' in that cupboard way too long and did not want to find out what was clagging in there...

At this rate I will have to move from 'novice', to 'intermediate' pretty soon....:)

    Keeeep Preeeeppppping!

I noticed you were all saying its strangely warm..I saw a forecast on the internet last night that said the UK was going to have an Indian summer for a few days before you get snow...... do hope they've got it wrong for you and that you are going to get an Indian summer that lasts till next April!

Very warm here today, 28 in the shade again and endless blue sky. I was helping at the gym till 2 but there was no electric on. I don't know if its the start of the rolling strikes...I do hope not at the start of the weekend! It's amazing how hard people work in a gym with no treadmill to plod away on...and they were more chatty due to there being no 'motivating' music on. It was quite an enjoyable day really. The owner of the gym phoned me early to warn me there was no leccy....but by that time I was sat at the non working traffic lights just down the road from him wondering why they weren't on LOL

Unfortunately a 67 year old pensioner died during the demonstrations in Athens. He had been in the peaceful demonstration about pensions, but when the police fired tear gas at the few anarchists who were throwing petrol bombs , he was overcome by the tear gas and had a heart attack. Such a sad thing to happen to someone who only wants the pension he paid in for...some of them have been cut down to 300 euros a month to live on.

The government are still arguing about the cuts and the bailout is going straight to the banks that loaned Greece the money so it will not help the people or the health service/pensions/poor in Greece at all. I don't know what will happen to them over the winter but its not looking good for them at all. What is the point of them suffering so much if they will never be better off. All they are doing is going without food and health care so the banks can make a profit. It's disgusting!

The last few tourists are here till the weekend then the hotels and resorts close down and the direct flights to the UK come to an end till next spring. If we want to fly to the UK we have to go via Athens, then London to get to anywhere. The ferries have been cut down to a minimum as they were losing so much money. We have driven it a few times in the past but its very expensive now with the ferries, road tolls and the massive cost of the petrol both ways.

I do like the winter months here, its quite nice getting cosied up by the log fire, with a good video on and some nice home made meals. The roads are empty so its a pleasure to drive here again without the horrendous traffic. Once more I will be able to find a parking space in town and wander around window shopping. I can go walking on the beach and not see a single soul all day...... I even like carrying and stacking a ton of olive wood each time for the fire......am I crazy?

    Morning everyone.

One step nearer today to finding out what is going to happen with hubby, as we have to go and see a "top brass blokey" today

Can't say much on here but please keep your fingers crossed for us today.

Did anyone see the blind man getting zapped on the news :eek: thats what I call having a bad day !!! terrible thing to happen and I bet it has affected him as it would me I would be scared to ever go out on my own. It must be a blind persons worst nightmare.

    Anyway must get on

    PiC x

This was not far from us and they showed the guy on the local news. When he walks he is a bent over, slow moving old man with an obvious small white stick. How the hell anyone could think he was a man running around with a samuri sword I don't know. The copper who did it should never be allowed to use a taser again if he has that little, common sense and intelligence.

There is nothing remotely frail little old man about your hubby.
You could knock 30 years off for agility and 15/20 for age. And I still want to know what his secret is? If it's 6 hours of martial arts a week, then it's too late for me, I wouldn't have the energy to watch, never mind do it :rotfl:

  • Its good to see folk talking about this. I have 2 children and Ive made sure that if anything were to happen we are well prepared.

One thing is to make sure you have easy to prepare, high calorie foods for emegencys and at least 72 hours worth of water for each person.

Seven Oceans emergency rations are good. Size of a small book with enough calories for 72 hours. Ive got a 8 for the family which is 2 per person. In addition I have a box of tinned food and about 20 bottles of still water purely set aside for emergencys

On a final note I would say that advertising the fact your well prepared to friends or neighbours should be discouraged because when the SHTF it will quickly become all about those "who have" and those who dont. and we all know how quick things can turn ugly

You might just have something there, I also do martial arts and I am 57. We might just have found the spring of eternal youth. In my case its doing Muay Thai kickboxing with Greek Sensais who are young enough to be my grandson. It's great fun and very good for flexibility and stamina. It's also full contact with training shoes kept on.....

I also weight train three sessions a week and go power walking on the mountain for a change. I have two male friends who compete in bodybuilding contests who are in their 70's. They look amazing and are really fit.:T
