Pleased to see forum is up and running again.
I can not see me bashing a squirrels skull, another job for DH! When we used to rough camp we used to try and live off the land meat wise. (I would not be confident to pick different greenery)So rabbits.fish, crabs, lobster, mussels etc. Over a three week trip we would probably manage half bought to half caught. It would have been more but there's only so much rabbit you can eat! :rotfl:
When DH was a teenager he and a friend kept rabbits to breed, kill, and sell around their estate. They did it to raise money so they could build their own motorbikes. DH is not a friend to the rabbit.;)
I know 11 sounds a lot for Christmas but it's really just, us, our two DD's, their husbands and the four Grandchildren. Oh and the Granny! can't forget my Mam!We all get on fine and it's very much an opening presents and eating too much food, rather than an arguing and too much drink day. We have always stayed at home for Christmas lunch and cooking it is one of my guilty pleasures! I know, I'm odd!
Give us the strength to encounter that which is to come, that we may be brave in peril, constant in tribulation, temparate in wrath, and in all changes of fortune, and down to the gates of death, loyal and loving to one another.”0 -
2tonsils - glad to hear from you. I saw the riots in Greece on the news last night, and although I know you are not near them, I immediately thought of you. We spent 2 yrs in Cyprus and whenever we came home I always stocked up. So I would DEFINATELY place an order. You can buy local when they bring their prices back down!!!! Take care, thinking of you (and very jealous of your weather and the gorgeous blue sky!) xMe, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.0 -

xmas is always a little different here as until the last two years DS3 couldn't really enjoy it he used to get so worked up so things had to be quite lowkey but more recently he's not so stressed with it all so I can go mad..I love xmas and this year DS2 is 18 on Boxing Day so double celebrations
regarding the disposal of squirrels  sure someone posted a link to some recipes..it'd get rid of the evidence!
DS3 wants to do some baking today as he's feeling a little better so a perfect time to brush up his breadmaking skills,I'm trying to train all 3 to cook with food storage items as well as fresh..it used to be met with rolled eyes and snorts but they've all been a lot more keen to get involved recently so thats good
Well must get my butt in gear have a great day all

I am looking forward to christmas - I didnt used to at all but since being married and part of a bigger family its much more fun! We are going to SIL so it's her and her OH, another SIL and her DH and DS (plus she's pregnant due Feb is that plus 1?), MIL, FIL, BIL, me and my husband, our dog, and possibly Grandma and I think BIL's GF has been invited but prob not coming. So I think that's nine adults confirmed, 1 kid, 1 kid on the way, 1 bulldog and 2 possibles
We take it in turns to host and each bring a different part of the meal, this year we are taking puds and cheeseboard.

D&DD if you want to get the lads motivated to make bread at home, don't say bread, say pizza! The process is the same and after you make pizza you can show them how, with the leftover dough, they can make bread rolls or loaves (the trick is to make enough dough of course!).
My DS must have been the only teenage male in the UK, at 16, able to make pizza from scratch! This is all because I made it so many times that he just learnt from watching. He still cooks quite a few family meals. Good for you for training the boys, and good for their future wives!
Off to outdoor bootcamp now *GROAN* have a good day all xFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Morning everyone, another grey and damp autumnal day down here but curiously warm, strange conditions indeed!!
We have such a small family that Christmas is never a problem. I have one brother who is married with one son and then there are just us and the two DDs. So our day is relaxed and low key. We have our routine well established and breakfast is always fresh baked bread rolls with lots of homemade preserves and some nice coffee. We walk in the morning with the lurcher and pop into the local to have a drink on the way home. We all help prepare the lunchtime meal (all prepared the evening before) and usually have roast beef as it's such a treat. We walk the lurcher again in the afternoon and then back home to light the woodstove and play board games until supper which is always cold meat cheese and pickles. Christmas cake is always made by the girls and on hand if needed. It suits us very well - D Brother has inlaws locally so they do their own thing too. Not exciting but oh so comfortable!!
Both the DDs learned to cook from as soon as they could stand on a chair to watch in the kitchen. The food technology at school focused much more on producing and marketing a product than on the actual cooking of it. They cook from scratch, both bake their own bread, make preserves and pickles and both are gardeners and grow as much as their gardens allow them to. One is limited to a patio with things in pots as she lives in a flat but I'm always amazed at just how much they produce. They both also sew and the youngest knits beautifully so very OS.
I am off to town on the bus this morning for a trip to A*di and the 99p shop so hopefully will be able to pick up a few more things for store. Have a good day all, Cheers Lyn x.0 -
Caterina outdoors in this weather?? Have you dried off yet? So pleased to hear your driving is going so well too well done (I still haven't been out yet
:o)
My boys are reasonable cooks albeit typical men and leave it to mum types lol but I enjoy it so it works well, they can step in if needed.
I agree with teaching them young mine used to sit on the counter and cut cookies lol they dabbled with sewing too so can use a machine and stitch by hand.
DS3 has made an impressive loaf and needs a shower now :rotfl:I bought him a proper chefs apron and cap last chrimbo but it doesn't stop him flouring himself more than the bread!
He has fun though and as he's not eaten much this week it's good to see him keen again.
I tell you what is nice as well when we make pizza I put a shake of Schwartz's red pepper, mint and olive salad shake in the base,it's luvverly!
I can't remember when I last bought a pizza I've been making them for years thats one thing the boys won't eat when its shopbought, occassionally they will have a takeaway one but only from a certain shop..*fussy wotsits* lol0 -
