Somewhere in the recesses of my brain I have a warning about squirrels/rats eating through wiring in lofts. You know what it's like, you think you know something but it just might be a load of rubbish.
A house fire in our road was blamed on rodents chewing through wiring. No idea if that was listed as the official cause but the poor family lost everythingDear Lord, I am calling upon you today for your divine guidance and help. I am in crisis and need a supporting hand to keep me on the right and just path. My mind is troubled but I will strive to keep it set on you, as your infinite wisdom will show me the way to a just and right resolution. Amen.0 -
Squirrels are vermin, so if you catch them you're not allowed to release them...

How do you dispose of them?
I'm sure I read about a man being prosecuted for killing the squirrel he had caught???Dear Lord, I am calling upon you today for your divine guidance and help. Hello All, glad to see all going on as usual while I was away.
Your talk of Christmas is really depressing me. I used to love the quiet country Christmas week we always had. Now I have to involve stepson and family, and they seem to spend about a fortnight going from parties to family do's, either sloshed or hung over - and really sulky, sensitive and touchy. I'm dreaming of a remote cottage again, but I know thats the cowards answer!
Need a slice of Marmite toast (Vit B for stress), just thinking of it!0 -
PIC, good luck for today, hope you get some answers xx
Stiltwalker, nice to see you, the wedding sounds wonderful, perfect O/S style. Hope all goes well x
I have a confession ....I ran out of milk never been known. I have dried but dont want to open it. Things are tight this week but have supplies (other than milk) so not worried. Ds has some kind of cough type lurgy so is lying around the house ...oh edit that to say he has gone for milk :j must need lucozade.
I look forward to Christmas though my family cant be ars*d driving the 25 miles to see us and Mum always goes to them and expect us to go over too. had a good if rare talk to my brother the other night as Mum had just told him about DGS's autism. He rang to offer support  as my niece is downs syndrome and wondered why I hadnt rung him - ha! not rung him for the last 25 years for help due to his lovely wife (sarcastic smiley) Pointed out that OH is getting worse and how serious his condition is and I think he actually took it on board. Maybe if he had ever rung before I could have told him?I actually did ring him from the hospital 6 years ago when the SHTF originally and Oh had a few hours to live but he didnt walk over from his office near the hospital to help me. Sorry feeling a tad angry. xx So going to have our usual lovely chrimbo with a visit to Dd and co followed by a peaceful meal - s*d the familyClearing the junk to travel light

I will get my caravan0 -
all this talk of christmas i loooooove it!!!! this year i wont be cooking yayyyyyyyyy mil for the big day then my mums on boxing day, i did last year so feet up for me. i go see mum and dad christmas morning have breakfast bro and sis we all meet up there then we go our own ways one of us always has mum and dad so its a family time, then b.day we all meet in mums and we all spend the day together us and all our kids and husbands, none of us drink through choice but we still have a ball we eat /graze constantly. we a close family sometimes too close(brother thinks he me and sis guardian) and always have been around each other so nobody escapes ....i did once want to go away for christmas (perish the thought) and was nearly outed from the family! i enjoy it and i know i am lucky to have a large family when some people have none and can see how some people dont enjoy it as it would be a very lonely time if you on your own.on another note i dont know how some of you speak so freely about mice etc they are my phobia cant even watch Stuart Little!! i skim read all the posts that talked about them i am petrified absolutly horrified at the thought of them, snakes spiders, insects dont mind them but long tails make me weep. i dont like cats either as they eat them aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh i imagine them sittin on peoples knees gettin stroked and a mouse in there belly ......cue body shakes and dry heaving....sorry im sure all you cat lovers are wonderful mums/dads but i dont like them.im afraid we are the door open freak people in our house basically door only allowed open long enough for person to go in/out. 2 years ago i heard a squeaking noise evacuated house in military fashion was waiting in car for oh coming home from work 3 hrs later, he was sent in like white warrior ended up being a bottle of diet coke thats lid wasnt on right was expelling and making squeaking noises. took me 3 days to get over that one. sorry rambling now off to get son from school soon have a good peaceful day all.xxxC.R.A.P.R.O.L.L.Z #7 member N.I splinter-group co-ordinater

Feel much better after toast and your last sentence Ginny. Hubby cant drink at all, and I confine myself to one or two, so no point in competing with stepson for worst hang-over. Being cosy and enjoying quiet celebrations is only way to do it. I sometimes think I should offer the use of the spare room for a catch-up nap, but that might not be very tactful.:rotfl:0

My striped cat is sleeping soundly, and the mouse (who gets in under the kitchen sink) is definitely after the garlic, as I keep finding chewed bits of it in different places. Little b*gger. I am going to set a trap NOW! Let's hope where mice go mutant rats don't follow ....
We also have squirrels galloping about in the loft above our bedroom (old country cottage), but will definitely be stopping up all gaps before getting our (free!!) loft insulation done, as don't want to spend the winter with Cosy Squirrels upstairs. 'night all. xx
I have just had a quick look at my Armageddon/Zombie Invasion stash, and it is growing quite big; I've been adding to it regularly for the past few months as and when I find a bargain, buying what we eat, etc. Will have to give some serious thought to storage (mostly tinned, but some dry goods too). Also giving serious thought to buying a dehydrator. A serious week....
Love and hugs to all who need them, and thanks as ever for your advice/help/support/humour. xx0 -
We usually spend Christmas day having a walk on the deserted beach, call for a coffee with friends and then home for a Christmas dinner for just the two of us. It's peaceful, friendly and relaxed. When I lived in the UK we used to do the whole family thing, usually with me doing all the cooking. I loved it if they left me alone in the kitchen to get on with it but they started to find that hard to do. Glad I don't have to do it any more.
We will be going out for to a few get togethers and parties over the holiday period but things are mostly low key here for Christmas. The Greeks celebrate it like we used to fifty years ago, a few carols, get togethers to play cards and board games and a low key meal on Christmas day. The village brass band play Silent night and a few other carols in the square and a few decorative lights go up in the trees. The village has its own Christmas tree which happily grows taller each year in the middle of the mini roundabout at the bottom of the village.
The children get their toys at New year and a cake is sliced up with a lucky coin inside it. Because so many people are without work here now and with very little money left I think the holidays will be even more low key than before.
Went shopping today and restocked the freezers. My cupboards benefited from the reduced goods that had a long shelf life left on them. At the moment things are pretty quiet here..the politicians continue to argue about the cuts....the Greek military are on high alert with the Syria/Turkey thing blowing up and we are currently having at the start of a ten day heatwave after five days of horrendous thunderstorms. The whole world is going mad..... have decided to leave them all to it and just get on with my 'normal' life instead of worrying.
Just got another message to invite us to a 'final night' party tomorrow..it's our third invite today...our friend is closing his hotel tomorrow so we are going to that..next week English friends are retiring from their bar after twenty odd years...and we are invited to an 'End of the world party' that is taking place on 21st December LOL“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. When in a state of security he does not forget the possibility of ruin.” Confucius (551 BC - 479 BC):A0 -
2tonsils - :hello:we had a Christmas in Greek Cyprus one year - so peaceful and laidback. There were no adverts for toys allowed on TV before 9pm, lovely Cyriot families having multi-generational meals in the restaurants, and slow strolls on the prom on the holidays in their best clothes. What a pleasure that was for us to experience.
We were lucky to go there when we did - 1995. Things are different now everywhere, and we all need to make the best of the important things.0
