Thank you, MTSTM, for clarifying your position in regard to your current home. Neighbours are such an important part in how we feel about our homes. However, as Cooltrikerchick says, you cannot judge a whole area on the behaviour of one or two ignorant people. Although I have not been to Wales personally, many people on here have praised the area and the people, and can feel hurt and offended when someone criticises them unfairly. It is also true that comparing a remote country location with a big city is a waste of time as there are so many differences.

If you are unhappy with your neighbour, you have a choice - move somewhere else, or try to find some way of coping with the situation. If what you say is true about previous problems, it sounds like your neighbour might just have been born obnoxious, and you can be as nice and friendly as you like but you won't change that person.

I think, as Mrs LW says, part of prepping is being prepared to cope with all sorts of people and their "baggage". Perhaps if you avoid the neighbour as much as possible, just restrict communication to a civil "Good morning" if need be, and try and cultivate friendships with others in the area. You chose to relocate to Wales, there must have been attractions about the area, so enjoy those, make yourself a good life and let the not so nice individuals stew in their own juices!

I am lucky we have decent neighbours but I have had some right rum ones in the past so can sympathise.
I agree one difficult neighbour does not mean that everyone else in the area is the same. In fact you might find that your other neighbours might have the same grievances with that neighbour as well and you might find a form of solidarity in your common cause against that difficult neighbour.

The only thing that you can do is keep your head down and ignore them if you can.

I have not had too many awkward neighbours but one home I was in it turned out that my neighbours really liked me moving in because I was so different to the previous resident, the owner who was very difficult and frightened them.

OMG still boiling water in the land of the north, convinced my kettle won't take the strain anymore.

Its still hard to keep remembering not to use the water straight from the tap, and washing up seems to be an all day occupation, what with boiling several kettles a time, cooling to the point you can use it, not being able to rinse plates etc without more boiling/cooling. Then the whole teeth cleaning farce every night with the kids and bottled water.

I can't believe how much what sounds like a simple thing affects you and how used to the easy life we are. I can now really see how water supplies can take up vast amounts of peoples time in less developed countries. We have the water, just need to purify it, they have to source it and purify (if they can). Wish UU would hurry up and sort it out.

They now have ultra violet devices installed (why didn't they get them in straight away?), so hopefully the end is in sight arghhhhh.

Crikey, sorry to hear about the water situation Ali. Will you get any contribution to your electricity bill in due course?

I'd guess all those kettles must require extra electricity generation in Lancashire, mustn't it?

Oh dear ALIBOBSY, so sorry they're taking so long to sort the problem out :( Everything takes so long and becomes more tiring, doesn't it? I remember a couple of years ago when we lost the power supply for a few days because someone had tried to steal some cables and caused a fire. It was exhausting, and that was with a water supply!

Thinking of you and all the people who are putting up with this ((HUGS))

UU are saying they will be paying "compensation" once things are sorted, but no idea how much or how it will be calculated. Or how they will calculate it tbh.

For example we have no dishwasher and there are 6 of us, my mum and dad around the corner have a dishwasher and there is just the two of them so they may well have to do some kind of tiered payments.

They also said buisnesses will be looked at on an individual basis as well. Going to be alot of claims and no doubt they will be trying to pay out as little as possible, could be a long haul before we get anything.

TBH though just want the whole thing to be over at the mo lol.

Hope the water situation gets sorted Alibobsy.

Re friends and neighbours, I think that they will be vital in SHTF situations. I get on with most of my neighbours and it is the sort of area where a posting in lamp posts etc about communal events and activities results in high levels of engagement.

We have however a small percentage of people are very wary of anyone who lives the other side of the Lane. Mainly because they do not seem to meet socially. House prices and rents are lower and facilities much less. There are also some pockets where housing and incomes are very low.

Some of my friends and acquaintances live there; I am quite happy to walk down the hill to see them. If SHTF I would much rather we were all friends and acquaintances who could work to a common goal than working at cross purposes/against each other because we were wary of each other.

With regards to the water situation I think that this could be solution for many.

It is modular so you can use the components that you need. I have ordered one.
