    :D Yeah, and those string ones can double as fishing nets if you get stranded somewhere and need to fend for yourself.

    A vest is one of those items which are worn covertly by people. It's somehow acceptable to wear/ practise really kinky stuff, but shocking to admit to vestiness. I am currently sans-vest (better than sans-culotte) as have a menopause to keep me warm. I have my New Zealand 'stripies' the polyprop thermals they sell over there, in narrow stripes and multi hues. I had to have the lariest ones, in rainbow stripes, longjohns and long-sleeved vest. I use them as camping PJs, lovely and snug.

    I think getting out of debt is prudent. I've worked in the debt advice field. Had people weeping, had people suicidal, had people physically crushed under the weight of it. Sat in an interview room one time with a feller who's LBM over multiple debt was the council-appointed bailiffs on his doorstep for council tax debts. Rang them up, explained the situation, that we needed time to get him into a repayment plan, and they agreed to call back the debt from the bailiffs. Feller's shoulders lifted about 4 inches just from that, in a heartbeat. Others on my team had to talk down suicides.:(

    Debt robs you of choices. Choices are the definition of a free person. If the money you have is your own, not pre-pledged to a debt, you can make choices. You may choose to buy gin and sponge cakes and lottery tickets, you may choose to buy preps and put it away for a rainy day, or any combination of any set of circs you can imagine. But you'll have the ability to choose and that's what I think matters.

    While the weather was really cold a few weeks ago, my work wear consisted of: a long sleeved thermal vest, a long sleeved base top, a lambswool cardigan and a thick padded gilet on top. Thermal Long Johns and trousers, thin pop-socks and 2 pairs of thermal socks inside my 'fur-lined' boots! I've now reverted to just the base top, cardi, gilet, trousers and 2 pairs of socks. I try to keep warm as much as possible so I don't get fibrositis in my neck and shoulders. I can't guarantee that my own global warming machine will work when I need it to ;)

    150g sock yarn = 3 coupons
    Lined trousers = 6 coupons ...total 9/66 used
    2 t-shirts = 8 coupons
    Trousers = 6 coupons ... total 23/66
    2 cardigans = 10 coupons
    Sandals = 5 coupons ... total 38/66
    Nightie = 6 coupons
    Sandals = 5 coupons ... total 49/66

    We are having a new roof - eventually. At the moment we haven't got any roof at all, only a tin lid on top of scaffolding. I always thought we didn't have that much insulation in the old roof (because it was almost flat with a very shallow pitch there was no loft so we couldn't get rollout insulation) However I am now finding even inadequate insulation is MUUUCH better than nothing at all on top of the bedroom ceiling.

    Fortunately, I have thermals. Most of them seem to be on my person at present. The lightest and warmest are pure silk and they have lasted better than the nylon ones which go sad and lose their loft after a couple of winters. Expensive but worth it
    It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

    I agree. It is my current priority. While I still have other priorities which will delay this it does help motivate me. As my debts have fallen I have had more scope to do other things. When my loan cleared it also boosted my credit score as well. So now only one debt left and I am doing well.

    How funny you should mention vests, because I'm wearing one under my t-shirt today! Not because it's chilly (it's still bloody hot today), but because my visit to the doctor concluded in me being allergic to my bras and as such I'm on steroids and yet trying to remain decent! :rotfl:

    Three possibilities a faulty water, a bad meter read or a leak his side of the water meter. My parents had a faulty meter so it could be that. Take regular reads and make sure everything is off.

    My push button toilet flush sticks open sometimes. The flaming thing wastes gallons if I don't notice. Is that a possibility?

    I have downloaded the form to transfer the house to my sole name, just got to find the deeds, which I know are lurking upstairs. This is part of making sure that I am as tidy as I can be for my next of kin. I am also going to get my will updated to reflect circumstances and to add another executor, to share the onerous burden

    Kittie, thank you for taking the time to let us know how you are, at a time that is unimaginable until it actually arrives.

    Transferring the house to your sole name is important. My parents bought their first and only home in my father's name only. He died intestate 30 years ago and my mother therefore inherited, but my siblings and I only found out after her death in 2013 that it had never been transferred into her name. We are having to jump through all sorts of hoops with the Land Registry before we could sell the house, although my brother stll lives there so we're not under pressure to do so.

    My mother had never used their joint bank account, he paid the bills and she'd have cash for the housekeeping, and when widowed at 63 she had to be taught how to write cheques and use cards. Kittie you may have a steep learning curve in unexpected areas - as with the satnav - hang in there, with t'internet at your fingertips, supportive friends and family, and your many 'virtual' friends on here, you'll find strength and resources you didn't know you possessed. Grief is just one stage of coping with bereavement, with very many ups and downs. We hear you, and we do care.

    Thank you for the kind wishes following my nephew's death last week, he had so many friends and his funeral next week will be a real celebration of a life full of laughter. He insisted his ashes are scattered with my mother's - they were always so close, and we're all glad she never had to know about his terminal diagnosis.

    BettiePage, I'm sorry for your recent loss too, the thread moves so quickly and I meant to reply to your post a few days ago. It's never easy, whether expected or not.
