kittie - sounds like you have a "second wind" carrying you through this time. Don't be surprised and disappointed if you get the odd "off" day full of tears and wobbles, it happens.

Having said that, strike that last sentence - you seem such a sensible sort that I am sure you already know that. ( memo to Nargleblast - Don't try to teach Grandma......):D

  • Kittie, I'm Dorset Guild, but have a number of friends in the Somerset one - lovely friendly relaxed & helpful people, all of them! And it's a lively & forward-looking Guild too.

Off upcountry to fetch my mother back from Elder Brother's this morning; same roads as going to visit DS1, and indeed we're calling in on him on the way back. Wish my poor long-suffering axle luck... not to mention my mother's spine!

  • nargle, sweetie, don`t say that. This egg sucking granny is always glad of well meant help

Another morning over and I feel a bit too whizzy, order is sorted and I did the forms for reduced council tax and transfer of house deeds and also bagged a bit more from his room. Bin day tomorrow so I have said goodbye to some obvious stuff. Later will phone solicitor re adding the executor. That really is all for today now. Need to light some candles, do some knitting and quieten down

It sounds as though I am doing lots but it really is in small varied chunks and very manageable. Might do some jumps on my rebounder, after I have dusted it off, got to keep my bones healthy at my age

phew what a day, been sorting out stores, food, bedding etc
Part of our SHTF is being able to accommodate family / friends at a moments notice. Daft i know but its a part of who i am.

Another part is shifting debt, got it hate it dont regret it because at the time i needed it when we were both unemployed and had no income or benefits other child benefit and child tax credit. So used for rent etc We have also been funding my father who has dementia and various family members monetarily and emotionally.

Because our budget is so tight, i try to keep at least £10 a month spare for anything. I know its not much but can be worth loads when you have nothing.

I think the idea of saying clearing debt is absurd is quite frankly ignorant. Not everyone is debt free whether is be from paying off, bankruptcy or saving. What ever the reason.
Generally paying off debt is in a part of when SHTF when something happens whether that losing job, flood, unexpected happenings. Its just one less thing to worry about.

Started stage 3 of the plan, growing veg and fruit. So right now we have two raspberry canes and strawberries planted in the garden. Gooseberry is coming alive and planted another rose tree. Hopefully all these will attract and help the populations of bees.

I think that's another thing to think about regarding preps is the outside environment. Its all well and good being able to leave in a rush but what do you if the insect population diminishes dramatically.sorry im being very forthright.

daz and gq TUPE is a nightmare.
thriftwizard and kittie sending light and blessings to you both.
  • I have made a discovery today, relevant to prepping I think and most certainly relevant to staying warm/warmer in cold periods like now. I have rediscovered the vest! I say this because I've eschewed the garments for the past 50ish years as being something that 'old ladies' wear. Well, turns out I am an old lady!!! Having moaned my way through this winter and sat every evening hogging the woodstove swathed in throws, dressing gowns and warm jarmies and still been chilly I purchased this morning from Bon Marche 4 x ladies thermal vests, sleeveless ones but they also do cap sleeved ones and long sleeved ones, I even got 3 of them in the sale for £6 each. Now, I know that a vest is NOT a romantic item, not, as they only come in black or white a particularly attractive item of clothing either but by 'eck our Gladys I'm actually warm for the first time this winter in fact have been in a short sleeved T shirt (and my vesty) for most of the day and only just put on long sleeves. I think thermal undies would be a very sensible addition to prepping equipment particularly if the power was off and there was no central heating. I shall buy some long sleeved ones too for going under long sleeved tops and think I'll never not wear a vest when it's cold ever again.

I swear by vests; be they proper thermals, the strappy cheapie Ts that I wear at lot of the time or old too small t-shirts.

One winter it was even a new £1 fine woollen jumper (princess pink!) that was the least disgusting colour amongst some remainders sold on the market.

Anything that traps the body heat right next to the skin. It a back-packer thing for me; as soon as I drop the rucksac I change my inner-most layer for a new vest-top. Stop me getting cold and shivery.

Long sleeves have a nasty habit of riding up and cutting into the elbows though.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing

I too rediscovered the joys of vests a few years ago :) My mother would be so pleased!
  • I'm glad it isn't the liberty bodice making a comeback though, if ever a garment was misnamed that one was, all those little buttons and so tight!!!!!
