  • Hah. Prepping comes into its own...

We've sprung a leak in the space above the kitchen / below the bathroom which came through the light fitting and blew all the leccy.

Candles and tealights were all set up yesterday in case of hurricane induced power cuts, as well as strategically placed torches so they went into play immediately. We now have the electricity back but the water is off until we can pinpoint the cause (we currently have a hole in the ceiling). DH requested tea then noticed the kettle was empty. "That's okay", I said and toddled off upstairs, returning with 2 x 2 litre bottles of water.

    I do feel smug. :D

It is just these sorts of events that prepping is perfect for. While you may have prepped for the zombie apocalypse the fact that you could cope with this shows that you are on the right path. Also it is a good money saving reality. If you can disconnect the water and get the plumber out the next day rather than pay late night premium fees then you will have avoided a huge expense and be no worse off.

Plumber? Flippin' 'eck no! This is why I'm married to a self employed handyman. Source of leak established and fixed within an hour. :j Mind you, I'm not sure how long I shall be living with a hole in the ceiling. :rotfl:

I need to find one of those. Seems a very sensible choice of life partner...

I did not know that, though does he do plastering as well?

If you had not had an tradesman OH you would still have been better prepared than most.

But clearly marrying a handyman was the best prepping of all :)

(I'm betting like most trades, when at home he does the emergency stuff, but anything seen as 'cosmetic' gets left until the nagging reaches a level that makes it easier to do it that ignore it...)
  • Me? I'm with the badgers every step of the way!!!

In the event of ebola getting a real grip the politicians won't have to worry about re-election either, there will be no one left to vote!!!

Yep, that's about right. He's done an amazing job turning this draughty old cottage into a cosy home but somehow he never quite finishes things. I'm sure there's some deep psychological explanation for this but I only did an accelerated A-Level equivalent psych course so what do I know? :rotfl:

He does do plastering - there's not much he doesn't do as long as he stays within the law - but I don't think sorting the ceiling is likely to be high priority. ;)
