Thanks for that Frugalsod, I will investigate that tomorrow. Off to watch a zombie/alien movie on Greek tv, complete with subtitles in Greek (but it is in English )

Just one last warning...although Bertha is expected to hit the Uk on Sunday, there is a huge wave of bad storms currently hitting France which could impact the UK, especially the south of the country if they move north. I have just seen them on the real time lightning map.....and have sent them on to the forecasters as no one is mentioning them yet.

    My pleasure.

I use a weather app that has highlighted Sunday as the wet day with more than 10 mm of rain for the day at my location. Elsewhere could be much worse. With the prospects of flooding I am realising that many people will have tents as part of their back up solution, and might actually find they could be just as vulnerable.

My plan is to use a hammock as it can be used well above the ground and if really necessary can be moved right up into the trees, over rough ground and even on slopes.

Feeling a little more solid than usual yesterday, I weighed myself, and see I have put on 3 pounds over the last month.

I have not eaten anything different or done less exercise. I can only imagine it's due to the warm temperatures meaning no energy needed to be used to keep warm.

Does that sound reasonable, and has anyone else put on weight?

Sorry to say, jk0, I always lose weight in warm weather! Don't seem to need as much food, so I forget to eat, or eat salads instead of sarnies. I'd quite happily move to warmer climes, but Him Indoors & half the offspring are pale-skinned Viking types who don't do too well when the temperature goes over 15℃.

:) I've discovered it's easy to lose weight when living outdooors (camping) in cold weather, despite eating like a pig. For me, weight going up and down is normally related to sweetie consumption.

Dunno what the weather will be bringing tomorrow, or even this afternoon, but at the moment it's blue skies and a few fluffy white clouds, so I'm off out for a few hours on the allotmentino.

There's always something up there needing to be shown Cold Steel. Have a preptastic day, lovely peeps. GQ x

I think some of it is to do with snacking, also. On holiday abroad I don't have the snacks available - or far fewer of them and so I don't tend to put on weight (and often lose it due to greater activity). on holiday in our caravan I have more snacks available so can put weight on - despite more activity.

But no more - I have eschewed sweeties and all other forms of sugar (and wheat) and lost 15lb so far Sorry jk0 :p

I have just returned from Slovenia (and other places) and it struck me how differently their houses and land were used, compared to ours. Even in the suburbs of Ljubljana (the capital) the houses all had huge wood piles, presumably for stoves, and every house (that I noticed) had a vegetable patch. Hardly any had huge swathes of lawn, it was given over to growing stuff. Every railway station had a large veg patch also, bizarrely. And it all looked extremely healthy growth (mind, they have had a dreadful summer for rain - but good for growth) and it was all kind of crammed in together - the runner beans were on tall poles, not wigwammed, with cabbages growing underneath, for example. Loads of tomatoes, on really tall sticks, in a net cage. Lots of peppers, sweetcorn, broccoli.

Anyone else go on holiday to look at the veg patches? :D (I also look at the building sites, as that is my job)

    HI prep dudes? :hello::hello::hello:

while strictly not a SHTF thing, I assume you all have sturdy walking boots for your preps in along with you /bub moment?

Can anyone recommend me a good pair of walking boots>

Have been through three pairs in five years, various things wrong but last pair came apart from the sole so chucked, willing to spend a god some of money for a good investment? Been through 3 pairs in five years mostly just walking but with a holiday 'hazardous trek once a year maybe'?

    Any help?

I'm probably on my own in finding the constant weather warnings a bit OTT.
Forums like this can be useful as well as entertaining but sometimes I think they cross the line between sensible preparedness/alerts/current events discussion to jumping on every little thing and promoting fear.
It's my problem I know so when I feel the Victor Meldrew in me rising I have to absent myself for the sake of other posters as well as my blood pressure. :D
So going cold turkey for a few months, maybe a lot longer. Wishing everyone all the best.
    Sayonara!

    Don't go :(

Most of us can read a weather forecast ( always accurate right?)

Trains in the UK, it floods, an awful nuisance in my job :p

I think we would all agree that disruption to our daily lives/commute is nothing to those who live on flood plains

Guess where our non council but in the next village but three intent end to build 400 homes, yep on a flood plain, with no school availability or dentists etc
