Yep GQ if they all went in and demanded to see the manager and withdraw the lot then it would be stopped. Without customers - no bank!

Most of my bulbs here at home are fluorescent/ compact fluorescents for the energy savings.

I am toying with the idea of buying LED bulbs now, but am worried about spending so much (£12 for some of them) then finding the light unacceptable in some way, and thus wasting the cash.

    Can anyone reassure me?
I've recently invested in a £12 Philips LED bulb from Sainsbugs, to test. It's the equivalent of 60W in old money, 9.5W and is called "Warm White". It's slightly yellow compared to an old-style incandescent bulb, but it's a good clear light, comes on immediately, and has none of that faint hum that CFLs have. (Not everyone can hear fluorescent lights, but I can, so I mostly try and avoid them.) It's supposed to last a long time - I've only had it three months, so it may be a while before I can let you know about longevity.

So far so good, and they're supposed to be as cheap to run as CFLs. I will be saving pennies to buy a couple more. Not sure if they're easier to dispose of compared to CFLs, that have to be taken to a recycling centre.

    :D Green, naturellement.

If they weren't green, they would be conspicious against the kale leaves and their natural predators would pick them off easily (that means you, Mardywotsit.) :p

I had a minor LBM moment this afternoon when cruising the YS bargains and seeing a cellophane pkt of thyme for 5p. Which I bought and have some draped over a slow-roasting joint in t'oven as we speak.

I often see various herbs like this for 5p. Mixed dried herbs are silly for what they are and I haven't yet got the allotment sorted for herbery. So I have the remainder of the thyme drying slowly on an oven mesh thingummy wotsit from £land the other year.

Dry, crumble, make a pot of mixed herbs to chuck in soup - sorted. Can't believe I only just thought of this.:rotfl:

It's beyond belief that it's HSBC doing this.

Seems I swapped banks just in time.

:D Just so long as you didn't go to the Co Op Bank; they're losing depositors left, right and centre. Heck, even the Labour Party * are taking their overdraft elsewhere.............

    * Should re-name that crowd; most of them have never had a proper job and they sure as hell can't throw a good bash. To party-on, you should have at least one Crystal Methodist in da house. He brings his own pharmaceuticals, don'tchaknow. ;)

Have been winding down the ISA in the big blue bank beginning with B :D
Would have closed it entirely last time round except that I was told I would have to go to Customer Services first then start queuing all over again
Getting money out of that branch is like pulling teeth. I was asked a ton of security questions. - one being what was my mobile number. No use asking a Luddite like me - I only use it twice a year and can never remember the number and of course I didn't have the 'phone with me. I could tell the cashier was incredulous. She asked about my overdraft limit. 'It's an ISA, I don't have an overdraft' I replied. 'Ah that was a trick question' beamed the cashier triumphantly. It's a good job she was safe behind her glass screen....

It's not just the intrusiveness of it - it would be so easy to deny us access to our own money using this sort of means. No nipping down to the bank at the first whiff of a problem
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

That was part of the problem though Mar, they were denied access to their accounts. That kind of thing causes ban k r u n s in other institutions before they start that kind of shenanigans.

I mean, please what is going on ? That is some messed up scary stuff right there that is.
