You just caught me Mar
here you go

I use the slug one does snails and slugs, the vine weevil one is excellent for our strawberries and there is a grow your own one does all the other stuff like caterpillars etc.
If you have animals its safe no worries about slug pellets etc. and I only ever do the one application not 6 weekly as they suggest so very moneysaving compared to buckets of slug pellets.
I had wondered about the repeated applications, because if nemotodes naturally occur in the ground anyway you would think they would live for at least a year in the ground surely? The repeating thing had put me off because of cost, but if I can do one application in spring and really dent the population before it gets going it sounds more worth the dosh.
Weirdly the "green gardener" seems to do the same stuff slightly cheaper through their amazon shop, not sure why.
I can't use pellets as we have cats, children and chickens. But over winter I let the chickens free range over the beds, they clear, fertilize and munch down on slug eggs etc, but never get rid of them all.

3 down two to go and if OH comes in with his squinty eyes and a spirit level I'll deck him lol...
I forgot we'd ordered the red filbert 'tis very pretty,I like pretty fruit
We got red cobnut
lord derby cooker (again)
patio bramley
red Williams pear
and bloody ploughman apple Ginny, dunno about an orchard it's starting to look like a flippin' forest !!!
Ali yes I wondered about the repeated applications too it works out expensive then especially if you have a large area to do.I get the smallest packet and it does my whole front and back.
The first time I used them it was a really wet year but didn't find the need to re-apply as you say they naturally occur and this just gives them a starter boost. Its so nice just finding empty shells everywhere instead of slimetrails!
I just get them wherever they are cheapest the GG often sends out 10% off vouchers but didn't get one this time.
Righto back to it otherwise my breadmaker will be pinging while I'm covered in mud! XX0 -
I have often considered going down the nematode route D&dd sounds good to me as the damn things (slugs ) turn my stomach - this is the woman who can wrangle any animal on earth except slugs. So you got patio tree's this time? I will go and have a look at the website - Ooooh cobnuts, I loves them, very rare up here in the shops.
The jury is out as to wether my prepping keeps me sane :rotfl: but yes doing things in advance is always best as I hate doing anything on the last minute it just causes stress and chaos. Im in the process of re-organising my freezers too, Oh doesnt eat many meals so I need to clear them out and fill them with hm ready meals for us both in smaller portions sizes for him. This means when he fancies chilli or something its ready and will defrost quickly. Am also stocking up on long term household supplies - when did the low energy lightbulbs get so expensive? £3.50 in the Sm. Had a good stock of them off a friend who got them free but am coming to the end of the supply now.Clearing the junk to travel light
Saving every single penny.
I will get my caravan0 -

Check out the £ shops and 99p shops.
While I'm on the subject of the 99 stores, they are stocking 400g packs of Grochell Fried Potatoes with onions.
No refrigeration needed, and cook in a frying pan.
Once removed from the outer box, it's just a foil pouch, 8.5" x 6.75", so ideal for popping into a BOB.0 -
I can't recall if I've mentioned this before, so apologies if I have.
I bought something virtually identical to these, a while back, from the 99p Store.
The only difference between these and mine is, mine has a small Carabiner, instead of the keyring.
It's very bright, and uses 2 x CR2032 batteries, so the batteries are very light weight (a pack of 5 weighing just 19g), as is the torch (39g, with 2 batteries installed).
All in all, an ideal addition to a BOB, or ECB.0 -

My favorite emergency food is pop tarts, full of carbs, easy to transport, fine in the heat and most importantly can be eaten in sub zero temperatures when everything else will break your teeth.0 -
Thanks for the good wishes, one & all; I'm pleased to report that my mother is making good progress & looks a whole lot more like her normal bubbly self already. They're installing a pacemaker tomorrow to stop her system periodically re-booting itself with alarming effects. My stepfather is by & large coping fairly well, but it's apparent they're going to need a lot more help in future, despite their fierce independence; Mum must have been under the most tremendous strain, as two days of constantly-repeated questions, wandering off to get his jacket & forgetting what he's gone for, leaving everything to the last minute then not being able to do whatever it is in time etc. has done my head in! Back down to them for the day tomorrow, then I'm "off" for a few days to catch up with business, home & garden.
Phones have now been replaced (thank you, DS3) but not sure whether that's upset our router, as Safari & Firefox are both playing up Old Harry tonight & apparently have been all day...Angie - GC Aug25: £292.26/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -
Thankyou so much Bob I'll have a look in the 99p shop when I get into town next as I've got the same problem as Ginny,we had a huge stockpile here too (longlife bulbs) and have just come down to the last few now. It's horrific the prices they want for them in the supermarket.
Meant to say to GQ re tinned potatoes I'm using ours too ATM lol I got a load from MrT in jars too as well as AFoods and I've been roasting them and doing them as crushed roast new potatoes with herbs from the garden, they're lovely.
Got the trees in,ran out of soil now and I've evn washed the greenhouse today.I hurt everywhere but am sitting here with a smug smile that I actually managed to get so much done today for a change lol0 -

CFLs will be a Godsend, when the power cuts arrive.
A 30w incandescent bulb will take my Jump Starter Pack from fully charged to flat, in about 6.5 hours, whereas a 7w CFL (equivalent to a 30w incandescent bulb) will stretch my Jump Starter Pack out to about 28 hours.0
