Just been into town, and popped into the 99p Store.

They stock a 15w (equivalent to a 70w incandescent bulb), Sylvania Mini-Lynx Compact.

It's bulb shaped, and about the size of a standard 150w bulb.

You will probably need one of these, to use them, as they are ES fitting.

    99p from Amazon.

They're also still stocking the mini LED torch, I mentioned in Post 21546.

It's the Everstone 6 LED Bullet Torch.

    I bought 3 more. :)

Also also, in addition to the pouches of Fried Potatoes with Onions, they also have (from the same company) Fried Potatoes with Ham and Onions, and Roesti.

Thanks Bob my OH has a few days off from Saturday so I'll make a point of going there next week :)

Typing with general grot from the garden under my nails as I'm potting on tomatoes today.

Ginny have you got raspberries (I think you do) as raspberry and redcurrant jam is fab.Redcurrant jelly is easy to make too.

Beauoootiful day here today,I'm down to my jumper now and may have to be really daring and sit in just a t-shirt soon *heavens above* and I'm a chilly mortal so it must be hot!

Been playing peekaboo with a little fieldmouse coming through from next doors garden but worried as he seems to be eating the slug pellets I had by the fence so I kept chasing him back.

They have a gazillion birdfeeders the other side of the fence so hoping he's just eating seeds I can't see he's a dear little thing.

I just walked into the bedroom, to find her flaked out on the bed.

As I walking in, she looked at me, so I said, in a perfectly calm voice "I've never met a lazier devil than you".

She promptly stood up, jump down from the bed, and hid under it. :D

:rotfl: Bob I know exactly the look she gave you. Fifi was lay atop the plastic tool storage unit in the garden, just baking in the sun. When I said hello as I went past, one ear twitched, then one eye partly opened to look at me briefly then shut and ignore me completely. Cats eh ;).

Dads feeling better now, the numbness is wearing off, but the Dr said it may not go completely they can't tell, he seems positive enough and Mum seems calmer so hopefully they are fine, at least for now.

Had a wonderful day in the garden, potting on, planting out, weeding, clawing over beds etc. Finished planting out the spuds-got some in pots under cover that are already sprouting. Everything seems to be bursting into life.

Managed to fit two of our blown out greenhouse panels back, but the other five that blew out are no use. Three had cracks that we hadn't seen when we picked them up and stacked them at the side and they just seemed to shatter when we tried to refit, the other two we had hoped to tape up, but again once damaged they seem to have gone really brittle. So been pricing up new polycarb panels online. Think we will go for the twinway the same as the roof as its so easy to handle and the side most of the panels is on just bakes in the sun all day so can be a bit too much for plants on that side anyway. Should be no more than £30 ish delivered so not too bad.

I'm glad you said you've been picking rhubarb D&DD as the allotment we've inherited has a bumper crop but I was unsure when to pick it. When I G00gled it said May but it looked ready to me so I have picked a couple of stalks to try.

I'm definitely going to get some emergency supplies to keep at the lottie like a thick jacket, bottled water etc

Not picking rhubarb here as yet, but thats only because I lifted and split mine this year, two clumps now back in ground and sprouting well and third part off to sisters garden-we had a lovely seedling/plant swop between the two of us at parents and Dad enjoyed chatting about plants and veggie plots so a winner all around.

Have got some rhubarb from a lady whose garden OH has been doing work in-she told him to take some he didn't help himself. Thinking rhubarb crumble for tea.

:p You probably had a scary face on. Cats are really good at facial expressions as well as tones of voice.

We used to have a cat who would jump on the kitchen table. We've never allowed cats to do this, or to jump on the kitchen counters. They've always been told NO! in a loud voice with a stern expression and the arm pointing down to the floor.

But they're cats, y'know? One of the mogs used to jump up there even though he knew better. You didn't have to say anything when you caught him, just stern-face-and-point-at-the-floor and he jumped down immediately. Until next time he wanted to get up there when your back was turned, or course.

I've often thought that it's just as well that cats don't live any longer than they do, because they certainly learn some stuff during their lifetimes. Take The Queen of Sheba, the snooty probably-mongrel-burmese rescue cat at my parental home. She's 10 this year, she's ferociously clever and (almost certainly) malevolent. If she could live to be 30 she'd probably end up ruling the world and enslaving humanity.

Hang about, I think she's got the enslaving bit down pat already. The amount of things which can't be done at the parental home because the cats don't like it.

Sheesh, they're working a better system than me as a nipper, perhaps I should go take some notes.:rotfl:

Thanks D&dd was wondering what to do with all the redcurrants - yes I have raspberries sent from London by our friend Annie - last year they did well but this is the 2 nd proper year they have been in so should be a good crop. I also have rhubarb off her ( came this year) and its doing very well. It seems my back half of the garden is very well suited to fruit growing and although you couldnt survive on fruit only its a good addition to a diet of tinned food in a crisis and will certainly help Dgs who must eat half his body weight in fruit every week :D

Im wondering if you can freeze cake you buy from the shops? Oh eats so little but enjoys a piece of cake and the local market has M&S reject cakes for 50p or less. Boy do they taste good and even better at that price. I am intending to keep one freezer for meat and ready meals and the other for cakes/fruit/bread. I was going to bake cakes when I have amassed all the bits I need cheaply but its far cheaper to buy them.
