Nuatha is my hero on matters computerish!! I have to say I also totally loathe Windows 8. And 8.1 isn't really any better though they made such a big deal of bringing back the Start button. At best you can make it approximate an older version of Windows but it takes you several extra steps.
I don't have a touchscreen laptop which is what it seems to be designed for - why can't they have a version that's optimised for those of us who mainly use apps that rely on keyboard use - like chatting on MSE, don't they know how vital that is???It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -

Sort of.
To get the discount (50%), you must be "registered blind or severely sight impaired".0 -

I agree, not having a computer wouldn't be a major priority but not having access to the useful prepperish information would be. But I can't print everythingIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
I am probably being as dumb as a bucket of rocks, but what is 'classic shell'?
It's a free download, which makes Win 8 behave like earlier Win versions.
Here you go.
http://www.classicshell.net/Posterior will have to do without my archive contributions as my home is too small to harbour carp.
WHOOSH.
That one went right over your head.
I said "posterior" not "posterity".if asked to supply one's residential address when purchasing one of those television watching apparatus, is to use this: TV L, Darlington, DL98 1 TL.
Amusing as that would be, they scrapped dealer notification in June last year.TVL_Website wrote:

The Wireless Telegraphy Act of 1967 (as amended) has been repealed, meaning that from 25 June 2013 onwards you no longer need to send us customer name and address details when you sell or rent out TV equipment. This also means your business no longer has to keep sales records to comply with the law on TV Licensing. If you don’t need these records for anything else you can destroy them from 25 June.0 -
I won't however be letting them into my house to check my equipment etc so no doubt will need to deal with it again soon.
You don't need to "deal" with anything.
Simply ignore all communications, visits etc.
Don't answer the door to them, and, if you should accidentally open it, close it again, without speaking.
Better yet, use a window (preferably an upstairs one) rather than a door, and video them, while remaining totally silent.
They won't hang about for long.0 -

Classic Shell is your friend.

Ooh looks interesting - but I'll wait till I've got my current glitches sorted. I keep trying various things which don't work and make things worse so end up doing a System Restore and sitting on my hands so I don't pick up my computer and throw it through the window!!!It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Sadly I don't have a peep hole on my door, it's half glass so checking to see who it is the person soon see's me, I think you do have to deal with them eventually, if not them then the sherries officers, as I say I have nothing to hide, I don't watch live tv... But I am not letting them in the house, I will answer the door and if they start asking questions I will go all pedantic on them ... I reckon that would sort them out0

So they see you through the glass.
That doesn't mean you can't simply ignore them, and go back to whatever you were doing.I think you do have to deal with them eventually, if not them then the sherries officers
I've been LLF for over 4 years, and I've not had any dealings with them.
All their letters disappear, into the black hole that is my letterbox, and doorsteppers get the silent treatment, while being videoed.
I know of people who have been LLF for decades, and have used the ignore tactic for the whole time.0
