but i also think it's a small amount to pay to get the quality of most of what they put out.

That's fine, if you watch TV, but BBC/TVL assume anyone who hasn't got a licence, to be an evader.

The idea that someone might be LLF, seems to be beyond their comprehension.

So I am in favour of abolishing it, and paying for it out of general tax funds.

As someone who doesn't watch TV, I'm not in favour.

    I prefer subscription.

Let those who watch pay, and leave the rest of us alone.

I think that the RSPCA might be upset that they were only fed once a week, even if were free range TV License inspectors. ;)

Your dogs can eat an entire TVL doorstepper, in one day?

:p Have had a call this evening from my Computer Wizard to ask if I was OK? It was a bit of a poor connection (he's half all of half a mile up the road) but it seems that his kid had hand, foot and mouth disease. The Wiz caught it, didn't know, arrived at mine in the pre-symptom state and got proper poorly the next day. He's in quarantine at his flat and concerned and apologetic that I may have caught it from him.

I assured him I'm feeling fine thus far, but it can take 5-7 days to incubate and he was here Tues night, so we'll have to see what happens. If I develop the rash either tomorrow or by Monday morning, I shall have to let my employer know and see if they want me in the office with a virus or not.

Do your preps include a yellow and black checkered flag?
Sorry to read your shed's been hit again.

    Good for you.

I went LLF a little over 4 years ago, and haven't missed it in the slightest.

:rotfl:The Wiz and I were joking about my going up to his place and putting a 'plague cross' on his door.

Jesting aside, and having read a book about The Black Death already this year, it's something to think about; the period when you have a contagious disease but are a-symptomatic. And how many people you may have come into contact with.

The Wiz is a freelancer and was working away, returning home in the wee hours of Tues, and crashed in bed, then popped up to mine before going home to crash again, before going off early in the morning on Weds-Sun for more freelance work. I'm guessing this enforced isolation has cost him money and possibly goodwill, as well as the discomfort of it. In the few days between him seeing his kid and getting symptoms, he travelled over quite a bit of England for his work.

Imagine pandemic flu and international air travel, rather than a usually minor, usually small-kid illness and it doesn't bear thinking about.

Provincial City had a bad time in the Black Death. I know where some of the plague pits are and the loss of life was appalling. To people with no understanding of modern medicine, and raised to a world-view of hellfire and damnation, they must have believed the end of the world was upon them.

Actually, it's a good reason to have supplies at home, in case you do have to hunker down in quarantine. Keep washing those hands, lovely people, it's simple but key to a lot of disease control.

Rushes off to check soles of feet for rashes.

It might run 7 (though probably not wonderfully) but I really wouldn't recommend 8, even if it was capable.

I recently bought a Notebook with Win 8 installed, and I have to say, it's the most awful OS I've ever used, and I started with Win 3.1.

    Thankfully, there's Classic Shell. :)

I was carded about 4 years ago by them and they threatened to come back and never did.

Do you keep their monthly Threat-O-Grams for posterior?

:) I am probably being as dumb as a bucket of rocks, but what is 'classic shell'? My Wiz despises Win 8, as do most geeks I know.

ETA, I shred them. Mostly still in the envelope. Posterior will have to do without my archive contributions as my home is too small to harbour carp. An amusing divertion is, if asked to supply one's residential address when purchasing one of those television watching apparatus, is to use this: TV L, Darlington, DL98 1 TL.

Bedsit bob, sorry this is me just getting back online, it wasn't an issue for us as I was night shift and sound asleep, I only know because they left a calling card, I won't however be letting them into my house to check my equipment etc so no doubt will need to deal with it again soon

On the subject of the licence, I have no issue with it at all, if I was using it then yes I should pay for it, but I don't watch live tv, I find the tv brain numbing and can feel the little bit of intelligence that wasn't taken by my TIA slither out my head every time I turn it on
I watch documentaries and wildlife programmes and the odd occasional series and film, I'm very selective of what I watch now a days tbh

MG I knew you would do it :) I knew if anyone could it would be you, will give you time to rest then hit ya with another challenge :)
